Never commented on the conclusion to this one, but Martina's "Independence Day" was the perfect winner for this rankdown! Even if I was to remove my stan goggles for a moment, I would tell you that Martina and Gretchen kinda mutually put each other on the map with this one. This song gave Martina the identity and acclaim to build a huge loyal fanbase and sustain a multi-decade career, and Martina's rendition of this song undoubtedly gave Gretchen the mainstream credibility and financial stability to be able to comfortably write whatever she wants for the rest of her career. This song is the perfect intersection of quality and talent from all parties involved. Literally the perfect storm!
