YES YES YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy with this outcome!!! I have been in love with her version of "Someone Somewhere Tonight" since the first time I heard it. It is honestly in the running for my favorite vocal performance of her entire career. There is just a real palpable tenderness to her vocals on this song. It's not a show stopping performance where she belts her lungs out by any means, but it has the same effect on me. The subtle nuances in her delivery slay me every time. Especially the way her voice gets all soft and raspy while also still being powerful enough to have a steady and consistent vibrato It's such a unique vocal, unlike anything else she has ever done.

Perfect top two ranking!! There really was no competition as "Someone Somewhere Tonight" is by far the best song on the album. "The Hard Way" was probably my favorite discovery so I'm glad to see it got a warm reception amongst the group as well.
I guess this means we've completed all of her standalone studio albums and just have her two albums with Lorrie Morgan left!

I love her version of "Someone Somewhere Tonight" (which she recorded before Kellie Pickler). I'm happy that if "Band In The Window" couldn't be #1 that it was this one.
Expect me to open the next set of albums this weekend! I will be opening both the Lorrie Morgan albums as well as Looking For A Feeling at the same time! Since there are 3 albums to go. All will be due in March! We are nearing the end of this series! Super excited to see how things end here!

Actually, as I get to thinking about it, "Someone Somewhere Tonight" was actually my introduction to Pam Tillis!! I of course heard Kellie Pickler's when it came out while I was in college, and gave Pam a curiosity spin when I heard that Kellie's was a cover of a Pam Tillis song! I loved it so much I ended up downloading her Country Legends hits collection, and after discovering jam after jam I couldn't help but become a fan I recognized the title of "Maybe It Was Memphis", but that's honestly about it. She was never really relevant outside of my toddler years, so I never heard her on the radio a lot. It's funny how people end up stumbling across the artists that they like. Anyway, I love Kellie's and I love Pam's. They both approach the song in such different ways. Kellie's is the smoother performance without a doubt, and if anyone was going to find success at radio with it hers was the better option. But Pam's is more raw and emotional. My only gripe with Pam's is that I really love how Kellie really belts out the "just found their own wings" line towards the end, and I wish Pam had crafted that line in a similar way. (Of course Pam makes up for it by having the lead-in to that line be more epic than Kellie's). Overall though I prefer her stripped back, more raw and nuanced approach to the song.

Little disappointed by this outcome because I preferred "The Hard Way," but her version of "Someone Somewhere Tonight" is solid. I don't really have much use for it though with the existence of Kellie Pickler's, as she's in my top 3 female country singers, so the bar is very high there.

I've been focusing so hard on getting 2000 done this week, these have kinda snuck up on me. I'm planning to submit 2000 today, and then all the immediate huge rankdowns will be completely done and I can just start knocking out album rds en masse, starting with Dos Divas!!

I will do all of these for sure! Things have been super busy lately, but I will get them done. I will have the Pam/Lorrie albums done tomorrow (hopefully), and Saturday at the absolute latest.

"Ain't Enough Roses" is just kinda grating. Most songs on this album grew on me with multiple listens, but this one just got worse. It was an easy last place. "Bless Their Hearts" being this low is a bit of a shock!! This song is totally fine. It ended up being one of the more forgettable songs on the album, which is why it's only my #10, but I did not peg it as a bottom 2 contender. The title track is soooooo weird, I'm not surprised to see it be so polarizing. I loved the lyrics of this song, and the idea of some poor sap being stuck between Lorrie and Pam and they're both just having fun and messing with him just for kicks and giggles. That being said, the latin influences of this song were a bit over the top, to the extent that it honestly comes across a bit like unnecessary cultural appropriation. Lorrie and Pam pretty much sound like the drunk aunts at the karaoke bar who are like "How can we make this sound as stereotypically Mexican as possible lolololol" rather than using influences to create an inspired moment. Wuuuuut..... "Even The Stars" out in the bottom 4 is a CHOICE! WHEW... Pam sounded amazing here. I'd even go so far as to say that this is one of her best solo songs on this album. I can't believe this is out before something that sounds super polarizing like "Old Enough To Be Your Lover" and "That's So Cool" or super campy like "What Was I Thinkin'". Lmao we needed more people, wtf is this wimpy turnout

A #1 for "Dud Divas"?! I cannot. That song was the worst of the worst. This album honestly sucked. I liked very few of these songs.

Wuuuuut..... "Even The Stars" out in the bottom 4 is a CHOICE! WHEW... Pam sounded amazing here. I'd even go so far as to say that this is one of her best solo songs on this album. I really wanted to like this song and gave it multiple listens, but it seemed each time I did I found myself finding more things about it that I disliked. Maybe it has more to do with the tempo, but I actually didn't care for Pam's vocal on this. For example, during the chorus in the first line "Here we are alone at last, together" she goes up in range on the last word. Anyways, that's just one small example that I can think of off the top of my head as to why I didn't like this song. Lyrically it's also a bit too mushy for me. The album track on the other hand is a song that grew on me the more I listened to it. It's a bit of quirky song though! This originally started out in last place on my list, so I can certainly understand why the over the top latin-infused production might turn some listeners off. If "That's So Cool" could kindly show itself out next that'd be great!

"I'm Tired" is a breezy little jam that frankly fails to make much of an impact simply because it is such a short little fucker. I start to get into it, and then it ends! I am sure I'm not alone in that regard, lmao.

Those ranks are all out of order! Lol "What Was I Thinkin'" is supposed to be a witty look back at the mistakes Lorrie and Pam made throughout their lives (an admittedly much easier task for Lorrie than it is for Pam, lmao), and I liked that at first, but the more I listened to it the more I realized it is just so campy that it doesn't hold a candle to many of the more serious songs on the album. This basically serves the same function as "Weed With Willie" on George Strait's last album, lmao. And once I realized that, I had no other choice but to put this in my bottom 2

So, "Old Enough To Be Your Lover" is a song that would be veeeeeery easy to hate... And yet I actually found myself jamming out to it a little harder every time I listened to it! The most noteworthy thing about this song is that it would fit perfectly in Lorrie's catalog......as she is no stranger to the campy schtick of songs like "Whoop-de-doo" and "That's So Cool" as well as notoriously refusing to act her age........and yet Pam's the one who took on the task! And she did a really nice job with it, imo! Her vocal is believable and sassy in all the ways that Lorrie would have been able to nail, despite it being a bit outside of her usual comfort zone.
The song is still a tad on the annoying side, and might rub people the wrong way with the lyrics, so I am a little surprised to see it escape the bottom 5!
Speaking of "That's So Cool", I'm a bit surprised by that one still being in as well, for all the same reasons.
