I’ll Stick Around is one of the Foos best ever, so would’ve been cool to see it win but Spacehog is a fine winner indeed

The Goo Goo Dolls
This is a kick-ass song for road trips, when it's just you (and maybe a friend or two), the Interstate and the accelerator. Good times. In addition, as a weather geek, I'm happy that this song was featured on the Twister motion picture soundtrack!

Burden in My Hand

One hidden element in this song is the bass line during the bridge. Every time I hear it in my truck, it fills the cabin with bass. Sweeet. Also, this song became the #1 Mainstream Rock hit on my mom's birthday in 1996! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MOM!  It's weird. I used to be burnt out on this song, but something changed about 10 years ago. Ever since then, I've learned to enjoy this song again, and it makes me feel good when I hear it. It's the perfect easy-listening rock song of the 1990s. IN THE MEANTIME vs. I'LL STICK AROUND

Hey, I can't be mad. This just proves that I have impeccable taste in music! By the way, two things I just noticed: 1. The top two songs on this rankdown form a complex sentence: "I'll stick around in the meantime." Also correct is, "In the meantime, I'll stick around."  2. As much fun as we've had ranking Foo Fighters songs on these Active Rock and Alternative rankdowns, they now have only one song left for us to rank. Expect me to rank "This Is A Call" very high on both of them. Now that we're finished with this rankdown, ALL Y'ALL ASS need to congratulate me for WINNING it! |

Welp, that Final 2 was Unexpected Edition: 10. Heaven Beside You (17)---Can't really be mad with this landing here. I thought Alice in Chains would have flamed out before the top 10. 9. Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart (7)---Nice that it made top 10 and happy with this. Keep in mind their best songs are coming up! 8. Long Way Down (8)---Hot Robert DeLong remake.  Anyway, this was my favorite discovery. Had no clue that they could rock like that. Also, Perfecto X3! 7. Burden in My Hand (15)---Much like STP, the best tunes from Soundgarden are on the way! 6. Tonight, Tonight (4)---And I'm down to one top 10. Shocked this missed out on the top 5. Would have been a perfectly fine winner. 5. Champagne Supernova (25)---Perfectly fine song from Oasis, although their best one went out too soon! 4. Name (9)---And my last top 10 song falls. One of their iconic songs along with Iris and Slide. Bodes well for their next shot at 1995 Alternatives! 3. 1979 (11)---So you are literally leaving me with my worst 2 songs in the top two spots? OK. This feels like a golden age for Smashing Pumpkins, but that's not to say it's their only one. 2. I'll Stick Around (39)---Solid entry from the Foos. Much like #4, this song could be a favorite to top the 1995 Alternative rankdown! 1. In the Meantime (53)---Another listen moved this up a notch for me. If I stuck with my original ranking, this would have ended up at 81 or so. Thanks to AZ for not allowing me to be the lowest ranker. Many thanks to rowellfarm490 for another fine job as host! It was fun to hang around and commentate. |
