Wow! Let’s hope she goes ALL into this. 365 and Con Calma were great, so I hope it’s of this caliber and better. Not like Swish Swish and Heyx3. Hopefully there is a radio deal.

Looking forward to hearing it. I'm surprised they're not waiting until a little later since so many big names are releasing right now, but they've all been pretty mediocre so far I guess.

Why wouldn't they release this Friday and have her perform at Idol finale? Seems obvious, no?

Well s**t! Another big release? May 24 is wide open, who's gonna release then? Maybe Montana/Cardi/Post?

If this is coming soon, it will be refreshing seeing it and "Con Calma" racing up the charts.

What makes you guys think that she can get a decent hit again when her last few songs underperformed? Even Con Calma looks like it's at its peak now.

Let’s ask Mariah who flopped for years before staging one of the biggest comebacks of all time. Or Cher, who was nowhere for a decade before scoring her biggest hit.

I agree with your reaction to that question due to the negative way it was asked. However I don't know why but I have a feeling Leona's question is a viable one. It's like her music has a bad vibe around it. I personally like most of Katy's latest music even more than her signature hits. But for some reason she seems to be turning off many.

It is definitely not impossible for her to get a hit at this point at all. I mean, CTTR was a hit and that wasn't that long ago. I do agree that her image is a bit weird right now. For some reason, general audiences were really turned off by Bon Appetit and Swish Swish and she is on Idol, but that isn't necessarily making her seem "cool" to the younger crowd right now (which, if we are being honest, is a big part of streaming/radio). It will be interesting to see how they approach this. I would just not over-complicate things. Come with a melodic, great song and she always brings it with the videos so that will work in her favor. Con Calma should help as well just getting her back on radio/streaming.

Katy needs to bring a summer bop to us. I'm excited for this.

Pulse making the news with breaking info!
The timing feels weird. 365 wasn't big, but Con Calma might blow up this summer. Why release something before it's had it's chance? And after Idol is over and you're not on American TV screens once per week? It's going to be a crowded field with Taylor and Miley

Never Really Over is the title? I don't remember seeing Ollie confirm it. I hope that's the title because it is perfect for Katy right now.
As for the timing, I agree that is it weird considering Con Calma is still rising on radio and with many big name pop artists to compete against (Taylor, Shawn, Ed/Bieber, Halsey, Miley). And releasing it after Idol had already finished. I guess Katy and her team have a lot of confidence in this song.

Let's hope they're correct because I don't know if she can afford another underperformance I feel they should have waited to release it, because although Con Calma isn't smashing right now, it could somehow ignite (If they did a little promotion). Maybe they feel NRO would be a great summer song and for this reason they want to release at May 31st

It must be a summer banger and rightfully so, because releasing a summer song can't have a better release date. Have we heard the song of the summer yet? I haven't - not is the Shearbieber neither Taylormartin hits. Maybe Katyhudson will win the lottery - at least worth of trying - and after surprise early success, I doubt that Snow in July can Inform(er) us about smash hit for the second time with the same song(Con Calma).

Wow imagine if it's something like Teenage Dream, but with a more mature perspective (About her relationship with Orlando)

Pulse making the news with breaking info! Oh! That's the reason why the number of views of this thread suddenly increased, as well as the number of people viewing this part of the forum. Never Really Over is the title? I don't remember seeing Ollie confirm it. I hope that's the title because it is perfect for Katy right now. Olly hasn't confirmed it yet, but if it's considered the three possibilities given and ignoring the other (and funny) two, it seems that Austin's guess is the most viable.

Miley is not a threat, lol. Her latest singles have been just awful. The Ed/Bieber collab sucks, I’m not even sure what Halsey looks like, I guess Shawn is a threat, and Taylor....well, that’s still up in the air.
Katy could easily release something with more quality than all those other singles combined.
We shall see...

Miley's addition to the list of threats seemed weird to me. Like, I actually like her, but she is in a worse place than Katy right now by far considering how Younger Now performed. Unless she is doing a sound much closer to Bangerz and has a big collab coming or something. Summer is always busy, but I don't think Katy is out of the running by any means.

There is actually a good quality hint of her upcoming single and that she is taking it as seriously as ever - her video for 365 which was reminder of her golden era.

Cautiously optimistic... I loved her first three eras so I'm ready to stan again, but she needs to deliver a banger.

Adele might not be the death sentence people are thinking... First of all her strengths were digital downloads (a dead market) and album sales (another dead market). Her streaming powers are mostly unproven so far, with "Hello" doing impressive numbers for 2015 but 4 years is a long time, and the market has changed. I'm sure she'll do really well anyways, but record breaking death sentence for everything else? Probably not.
Also, "Sorry" by Justin Bieber debuted the same week as "Hello" and it eventually went #1 anyways.
Katy is wise to try a summer hit though. Many of her huge hits were Song of the Summer contenders anyways.

I love Katy, but people gotta realize that shes not an A lister anymore. Dont be setting the expectations too high.Katy just needs a decent pop hit with some longevity. Doesnt need to be #1.

Unless she is doing a sound much closer to Bangerz and has a big collab coming or something. Summer is always busy, but I don't think Katy is out of the running by any means. I don't really see how Miley and Katy are in any different of a situation. Witness only performed marginally better than Younger Now and Nothing Breaks Like a Heart performed better than 365. Both announcements of their new lead singles have been met with similar reactions, and we already have a snippet of Miley's. Katy has the advantage of having more hits overall, but as of most recently, their status on pop radio isn't really all that different. If they both come back with catchy radio friendly tracks (of which we can already guess Miley's is based off the snippet), they are both likely to find some amount of success. But really they can both coexist. Given they both are at similar levels in their careers, their songs can easily climb together in a similar fashion to Hello and Sorry from Adele and Justin Bieber or Diamonds and Die Young from Rihanna and Kesha. Cannibalization of songs released at the same time usually comes from a big artist releasing at the same time as a smaller artist or when an artist releases two songs too close together, though these scenarios are not always guaranteed. I really don't see anyone as a threat to be honest. I believe this song will do what it will do regardless of who releases near it.
