The remix is kind of funny because I'm confident OTR would've been #1 next week anyway with how strong its streams and sales are and how quickly it's gaining on radio while 7 rings declines. So the remix was unnecessary in that point (much like that Missy Elliott remix of Katy Perry's Last Friday Night), but I assume the remix will be pushed in other markets to help boost the track even more, so in the long run it's beneficial.

BLACKPINK are the female equivalent to BTS in the US. Their sales are largely frontloaded and no doubt won't be as massive as the quick rise to #1 on iTunes makes it seem. (Similar to One Direction.) YouTube views are hard to go by too since kpop seems to be disproportionate in views than other genres. That 30 million could in large part be coming from other countries.

We'll just have to wait a day or two and see what it does on Spotify/Apple Music and how it holds on iTunes. Otherwise, if it doesn't do much there, crashes quickly on iTunes, and has an abnornally small US view percentage on YT, the run won't be much different than your standard BTS release.

Honestly surprised its even top 20 on Spotify. It's beyond disappointing quality wise, is a non-album release, and Ariana's collabs with other artists outside her albums always tend to not become hits in any capacity. 

I guess dropping the MV same-day and it getting a nice amount of views helped.
