I think the song that people liked and voluntarily consumed more won. Shouldn't that be what music is about instead of nostalgia, name recognition, and who has the bigger budget?

Brendon: Hey, kids! Taylor: Spelling is fun! Brendon: Girl, there ain't no I in "number 2". Taylor: But you know there is a "me" Brendon: Strike the band up, 0, 2, 3. Where's 1? Oh, it belongs to OT Road that's a far better song! Taylor: Girl, there ain't no I in "desperate-ass promo attempts". But you know there is a "me". Now ME!' is stuck at #2 on Hot 100, you can't spell "mega-sucker" without "me".

What is a strong top 2? Both songs with more than 50k or 60k points?
If it's 60k+...
Old Town Road vs. ME! UpTown Funk! vs. Thinking Out Loud Shake It Off vs. Anaconda Harlem Shake vs. Thrift Shop
...and a few others. That's an interesting thing to search and I hope to have time to do this for my top 10 breakdown next Sunday.

Yikes. You tried it, though.

This sucks. Not just for "ME!" missing the biggest jump possible and a #1, but Ava missing Top 10 as well.
What a disappointment of a week.

What a great week this has been
Im happy a natural, organic, lovable song that unites the world stayed at #1 rather than a song fueled by desperation, gimmicks and radio deals (and that is freefalling in nearly all metrics after those said stunts)

(and that is freefalling in nearly all metrics after those said stunts) No, it isn't. Unless almost all songs "freefall" in nearly all metrics in their second weeks. And there was nothing organic about its rise. They labeled it country just so it wouldn't compete with hip-hop. That's NOT organic.

a natural, organic, lovable song that unites the world stayed at #1 Nope, this is factually incorrect. Old Town Road was boosted initially by TikTok memes and then by controversy in the mainstream media over Billboard's removal of it from the Hot Country charts, and said controversy was the reason Billy Ray Cyrus hopped on a remix that got it a third boost that it's currently riding. In a world where Billboard didn't put it on the chart in the first place, it wouldn't have gotten to #1 and the meme would've died out by now, taking the song out of the top 50 at this point as evidenced by the original's current position on sales and streaming.

What a great week this has been Im happy a natural, organic, lovable song that unites the world stayed at #1 rather than a song fueled by desperation, gimmicks and radio deals (and that is freefalling in nearly all metrics after those said stunts) Because nothing screams organic and void of gimmicks like remixes and falsely labeling genres to obtain easier higher placements. OTR is in no short supply of its own backdoor tricks either. Let's not forget that. It is extremely common in the industry for labels and musicians to pull tactics to obtain more exposure and higher chart placements. This has been a fact since the Hot 100's creation in the 50s. Taylor is not the first to do this. She's not even the only artist in the top 5 to do it. She certainly won't be the last. Can we please stop criticizing her and the track for doing what literally anyone else would do in this situation? Can we also please acknowledge Me! has more points this week than most of the #1s this year? She would have easily clenched #1 at any point this year, including the debut of 7 rings. OTR is just that strong.

I remember Bieber sold over half a million copies his first week and was still number 2, so fun.'s numbers must have been massive.

I think the song that people liked and voluntarily consumed more won. We don't know that to be true. ME! won digital sales. The two were close in streaming. How many of OTR's streams are from people passively listening to playlists? Enough to be behind ME!? We just simply don't know. What about airplay? How many people actively listened to either song when it played versus just having the station on? ME! very easily could have been the more voluntarily consumed song this week, but there just isn't an easy way to determine that.

You can't say "consumed more". What if I bought "ME!" and listened to it all day on my phone rather than Spotify? It wouldn't be counted.

A #2 debut would otherwise be fantastic... But after she exhausted every option known to Man for the sake of a #1, the universal social media lashings are deserved. Hopefully her team will now take the •L• and move onto the next single. Well good thing she didn't debut at #2!

omg.... i’m sad about not only me! missing the top spot, but also ava who might get blocked at 11 for the 3rd week in a row next week :/
“me!” is going to decrease quite a bit, but i think radio is liking this a lot more than lwymmd so that’s good news! hopefully this means it will have actual longevity in the top 10, unlike lwymmd.
if the timing is just right, “me!” could get enough points to go #1 when the album drops. but who knows, anything could happen.

The fact that “ME” isn’t number one in any major/prominent music market and will completely freefall on most charts next week when “LWYMMD” was number one in more than half of them is just...
• US: #2 • Australia: #4 • UK: #3 • Norway: #9 • Sweden: #11 • Switzerland: #12 • Germany: #12 • Italy: #19 • Netherlands: #29 • Japan: #30 • France: #66 (LMFAO!)
It’s even failed to enter the top ten in several.
Perhaps it’ll be number one in Canada or South Korea.
Stay tuned!

A purchase would still count more We both know that streaming is the biggest force on the hot100,since the rule change He's right though. A purchase does count more. 1 purchase is like equivalent to 250~ paid-streams, and 400~ free-streams on Hot 100. The average buyer does not listen to a song 250-400+ times in a single week. Therefore they are counted more than they actually consume. Same with an album sale equaling 1250 paid streams, or 3750 free streams. Streams just still control the chart more, because sales are so relatively small/miniscule now compared to streaming.

You can't say "consumed more". What if I bought "ME!" and listened to it all day on my phone rather than Spotify? It wouldn't be counted. 50,000,000 more streams vs 100,000 more downloads That's an unreasonable stretch Taylor's "Surplus" downloaders would have to play her song around 500 times each last week on average to match the massive gap in streaming. 1.) That's probably not happening, esp when a chunk of digital sales were due to late merchandise purchases 2.) Even though that's not a believable thing, Im not sure they'd want to count that even if they could.
