Lizzo already won with that performance lbh. Hopefully "Truth Hurts" goes #1 and Billboard finally allows "Good as Hell" to enter the Hot 100.

How the duck did Billie win? Lizzo was robbed! She even performed! Fixed They both deserved it but only one could win. Correct. Lizzo

I wanna thank my Twitter feed for providing videos to the performances and the (very few) memorable bits because that meant I had to watch exactly zero minutes of MTV this year.

Lizzo has *been* one of the greatest new artists all the way since LIZZOBANGERS. Her performance tonight was nothing short of thrilling, and it’s so unbelievable to watch someone so talented, who worked and toured for over twelve (!!!) years, finally break through.

Billie Eilish too. This year has been exceptionally good with breakthrough artists imo. Add Lil Nas X and Megan Thee Stallion and there's talent overflowing.

Lizzo. Normani. Missy. Miley. and i teared up to Taylor's "Lover" performance
Also loved Todrick getting a speech, Taylor calling out the White House, ALL the drag queens, Lil Nas X pulling out the scroll, Queen Latifah serving the best reactions
HATED that fucking doucheback of a host
one of the better years of recent memory, but i mainly watched via twitter feed and didn't bother to actually tune in

I think overall the show was solid apart from too much Shawn Mendes, mediocre host and totally pointless screaming in that "party pit" or whatever it was called.
The lack of big celebrities is alarming but there were some fantastic newcomers to shine.
Wonder why they announced VOTY and SOTY so early in the show?

Is it bad that I don’t even want to watch the VMAs tonight? I’m ok with seeing the list of winners + the performances posted online tomorrow. Not really. I wasn't going to be able to as I don't have MTV, and I really don't want to sit through another questionable telecast. But thankfully MTV was came through and posted all of the performances and some of the other moments from the telecast on their YouTube channel in a timely manner so I don't have to run around looking for them later. Love the big rainbow, fireworks, and big texted words. Most flashy performance I've seen in months. It was like Pride, Mardi Gras, and Thanksgiving all rolled into one. Makes me want poppers real bad. Dead at Khaled bopping his head. Maybe he is enjoying the show going on in his own head because we all know how far up his own ass he is. ;) Wait, who in the hell is this host? I don't advocate violence because there's so much of it in our world now, but someone needed to beat his ass. This host is already getting on my nerves I saw the video of his opening monologue and I am just like, "WHO? WHAT? WHY? HOW? Girl..." French is three sheets to the wind rn This is his Fiona Apple "The world is bullshit" moment. Though this is not really different from his usual. Lizzo is commanding that stage AND the audience! She easily has the performance of the night so far. She rocked it! It was everything. Idk what Joe is wearing, but I’ve always liked married men. 😍 Kevin could take me right now. I’m not ashamed at all I want a menage a quatre so badly right now. Missy is serving it with this choreography and outfits! THROW IT BACK! I was living for all various "OOH!" moments that kept on happening. OMG The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly) and the trash bag outfit Love this! Missy is as innovative as EVER! I love that she brought that look back for that song. It was truly iconic. Now THAT is how you do a Vanguard performance. Missy is amazing!! For me, Missy easily delivered the best performance of the evening. I love how the crowd was getting into it and feeling it. Shawn looks so out of his element with that performance. I feel bad for him for being made to do it. But his smile at the end when their noses touched, soooooo cute i melted! 🥰🥰🥰 Shawn looked absolutely delicious wearing what he was wearing. I forgot Camila was there. Oops. The noses touching at the end was absolutely adorable. Taylor pulling a classic lol It has been a little while since she has done that so it's not that bad. Perhaps she did it as a throwback. Damn that was a good showing for Miley. You see her differently when her pseudo black side isn’t showing. That was nice. Normani delivered too! That was hot. Lenny Kravitz is FOREVER a snack! I am so hungry. H.E.R. is killing this performance! Good to have just some good neo-soul at the VMAs. Loved it.

There were a few nice moments (Lizzo, Missy, Latifah, Taylor), but it felt like a show without stars... 🤷♂️

Taylor Swift's performance was great and Glad she won 2 awards including VOTY. The biggest winner of the night was Ariana Grande and she was hardly mentioned at all.Overrall, this show is past it's prime when you can't get a lot of stars to attend anymore.

TV as a medium is dying, MTV has been terrible for the last like decade since music videos are no longer a novelty but easily available on Youtube & Apple Music, so obviously VMAs are competing Kid's/Teen's Choice Awards and Radio Disney Music Awards in the "who can put on the most cringe-inducing show" category

I'd say if you look at charts there were plenty of stars:
Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello (current #1 song) Lil Nas X (had a #1 single for 19 weeks) Taylor Swift (new album will open with almost a million copies) Miley Cyrus (a VMA staple putting out quality music) Jonas Brothers (#1 hit and #1 album this year) Lizzo (Currently #3 song and top ten album) Rosalía, J. Balvin & Bad Bunny (huge acts in latin markets) Missy Elliott (legendary and Vanguard Award recipient) Nod to rap superstars of yesterday (Fetty Wap aside lmao)
What more do you need? Surely Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Adele, Drake etc would've put on a good show but there's not much current for them to perform, maybe Beyoncé aside.
Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish are both on tour so they were never going to attend.
However, the presenter side was very thin this year imo. I miss superstars like Ellen DeGeneres, Cher, Madonna even Jimmy Fallon and trainwrecks like Kanye West and Paris Hilton lol.

I miss superstars like Ellen DeGeneres, Cher, Madonna even Jimmy Fallon and trainwrecks like Kanye West and Paris Hilton lol. They did have a good amount of current music stars, yes, but they lacked a lot of traditional celebrities they used to have and filled it with Tana Mongeou and James Charles etc. which is generally a turn off. Presenter wise I was pleasantly surprised to see JVN presenting VOTY, granted he was in the video, but still that was an interesting choice. Wasn't it Madonna last year?
