so obviously alternative is a very broad, subjective term and genres arguably mean less today then they ever have.
that being said, this is still a subject yall love discussing so i figured id create a poll about it.
which of these artists fit into the alternative genre as a whole?

If I needed to rank them in order of which one I THINK fits more Alt, it would be like this:
Lana Del Rey Lorde Twenty One Pilots Fall Out Boy Billie Eilish Imagine Dragons Panic! At The Disco AJR Halsey
Answering the question, I think the Top 3 fit the genre as a whole. Some other acts have a clear Alt influence though

AJR, Lana del Rey, and 21P
Billie and Halsey are more known in the pop side of the spectrum. Imagine Dragons and Lorde's recent releases are popish instead of alternative. Most of FOB and P!ATD's recent stuff are really popish (P!ATD with High Hopes, Hey Look Ma, I Made It, and his feature in Taylor's ME! and then Patrick Stump with his feature in Martin Garrix's Summer Days, then Young and Menace is more EDM) Although they still have more alternative sounding songs (FOB's feature in I've Been Waiting then their own songs like The Last Of The Real Ones, Champion etc. Then P!ATD with Say Amen, King Of The Clouds, etc.)

I only consider these three true alt, because they have been there since the start. Panic! At The Disco, Lorde, and Twenty One Pilots.
Imagine Dragons did get their start on Alt, but I hate how they pioneered its change. Lana del Rey is not bad but not Alt. Fall Out Boy used to be good, but now they are not even trying. I don't mind poppier vibes in some songs, but I don't want it to sound like today's popcharts either. Speaking of weird. The new blood like Billie Eilish, AJR, and Halsey are just that and will probably make Alt even harder to digest.

I said Billie, Lana and Lorde because alternative is more of a 'state of mind' (or image I guess lol) and less about sound (albeit still important)

Iโd only consider 21 Pilots and Lorde and MAYBE Panic, only because Hey Look Ma, I Made It reminds me a lot of their alternative hit Nine In The Afternoon

So Iโd like to say that Billie and Halsey both alt is stupid. Billie is impossible to hear however Halsey will make you deaf.
