No way LOL he's one of my real life friends! I'm really not sure if this is a joke or not lol. If it's not a joke, that's absolutely awesome! I mean, you live in the same city as him so I can imagine this being true haha. hehe

I expected them to censor but I instead of lame could they not have said shade doesnt make anyone less fabulous. I absolutely agree. It's very offensive to me to replace the word "gay" with "lame" because they are in no way synonymous. If Taylor approved this edit, shame on her. If she did not, I hope she calls them out and asks them to stop playing that version. On another note, quality and message of music aside, I am in awe of what a marketing genius Taylor is. She knows how to keep herself in the headlines (even when she says literally nothing like in the reputation era) and make sure people are talking about her. I was actually a little worried she lost her touch in this regard after "Me!", but nope, bish is all anyone can talk about again.

Are we still ragging on Chris ten years later and both parties have reconciled and moved on? Yeah, like what the heck? All he did was beat the crap out of her. Seriously, people need to get over it. Her face was basically back to normal 6 months later. /S She forgave him and moved on. I would think people it didnβt even affect would too

Well it can be forgiven. Depends on the person. It happened ten years ago, he was young and they have reconciled since then. There really isnβt much reason to sill be angry about it especially if you arenβt a friend, relative or directly related to the incident. Do you have to support him, hell no. But to constantly wish bad fortune on someone who has apologized, explained, taken a massive career hit, and reconciled with the person he has wronged is just stubbornness at some point

You keep talking about the person he wronged. He has a track record of 10 years of being shitty to everyone around him, including women and children and people working under him. He is a violent abuser. I legit don't care if Rihanna herself has forgiven him for herself. If you want to support an abuser with a decade+ history of abusing those around him, including those literally and figuratively weaker than him, fine, but don't put that on Rihanna, one of his many victims. Just admit that you don't care that he is a violent abuser that likes to hurt women, coworkers, employees, etc.
Anyways, this song is growing on me. I like the Ohs, which is funny because most people are saying they hate them and wish they were cut.

"You Need to Calm Down" is #1 on Radio Disney.
Furthermore, they're playing it UNCENSORED - I was crossing my fingers "shade never made anybody less gay" would be intact, but they didn't even blank "damn"!

It looks like this is gonna be another top ten debut for Taylor this era.The only thing left to guess is maybe Taylor releases another single in Late August/Early September if this holds up long on the charts.Unlike some other albums from other artists that ended after Release week,I don't see this one ending at all there either. This is the streaming era,But I think Taylor will have singles long after the album release.

Did we get confirmation about the Alabama station replacing "gay" with "lame" or not?

I don't know how many post album singles we'll get. Maybe we'll get a single off a re-release? Those have the potential to do well now since fans will be hungry for new material and buy the songs (rather than the album) to add them to their library. They'll also stream them in higher numbers than album tracks since there will be fewer songs competing for attention in the "new Taylor music" department than with when an album drops with 18 songs (12 to 15 of which are new). And I can imagine the most popular album track getting playlisting for GP attention if fans stream the bonus tracks enough. Her bonus tracks were able to chart pretty high in the past (for 1 week) thanks to sales from fans adding them to their library. #10 jump then fall #10 if this was a movie #13 ours #19 the other side of the door #23 untouchable #26 superman #26 superstar #30 come in with the rain Sales are lower now so they won't be enough but her fanbase does seem to be adopting streaming so they could push the songs to still chart well thanks to streams (and could still do 30k first week sales or something). The peak would most likely be lower than her previous bonus songs but if the most popular one gets playlisting and that leads to airplay and a music video maybe she could get decent longevity out of it.

Let's be logicalβthe people running Top 40 radio stations in Alabama aren't your run of the mill xenophobic, homophobic, backwoods idiot. In fact, most people in Alabama aren't, despite what some want you to believe about the South. So it seems to me that someone made that up to perpetuate an image and create a storm. People need to get jobs and lives.

People need to get jobs and lives. I'd tend to agree (although the DJ that groped her did happen to get a new job at a radio station in the deep South after losing his court case). I think it's also possible that the change was made by an intern by something who didn't think things through. Like apparently one of the radio edits for Picture To Burn involved changing "gay" to "lame", so maybe they just mindlessly did that without realizing that the way "gay" was used this time had positive connotations unlike for Picture To Burn. And maybe they quickly realized they messed up (and possibly contacted by Taylor's team) and switched to playing the original version of "You Need To Calm Down" and that's why it hasn't gotten any attention since. I think that the fan brought it up on the first day of airplay? I know it seems a bit unlikely for a radio station to mess up like that (due to stupidity rather than bigotry) but when you have thousands of radio stations in the country, the odds of one of them messing up aren't that low imo.

How does a radio station even change the lyrics without Taylor actually singing it and sending them a radio edit? Unless they spliced together her vocals from somewhere... She says "lame" in ME! so they could've spliced it from there, or from the Picture To Burn radio edit that replaced "gay" with "lame", or somewhere else?

With the great start this week, Taylor is on pace for another #2 Debut on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart this week.It is possible that this could be the next #1 on the charts. It has everything going for it at the moment.Would love to see Taylor get a #1 single this era. This is going to be in the top 10 for awhile.

Maybe Iβm cynical, but I really donβt expect this to have much staying power? It wonβt do worse than ME, thatβd be sad, but my friends arenβt exactly responding to it well.

They can always splice together syllables and words from other parts of the song. They can be creative. But would they be allowed to? I would think that Taylor would have to approve of a different version of her song being played that changes the meaning of her song. Bleeps are one thing, but word changes are another.
