#45. Emily West - "Blue Sky" (feat. Keith Urban) Blown off by her vocals here! Pitch perfect and emotionally wrecking! Also great harmony by Keith Urban.

recordyear the polarizing vocals on "He Better Be Dead" were always why I was anticipating the song to get hardcore tanked... that and the fact that it's a relatively 'unknown flop' from 2010.... but damn, it's an incredible song. With better vocals, wouldn't you like the song more? Obviously I myself love it as is tho lol. Probably will not end up in 100s, but the lyrics just escalated too quickly without some backup.

"Fearless" is more crap from Taylor... her first album was truly where it was at. Sadly, she didn't have the vocal talent to back that first album up. But the album itself was great. Well I have a pretty good idea where this’ll end up on your list for the 2000’s Women of Country rankdown lol... Assuming he actually does it, of course...

It peaked at #3 on Mediabase in June. The song was written by Jake, Jimmy Ritchey and Don Poythress.
I probably under-ranked this one by a few spaces. I honestly have no idea why this one died at radio so quick, especially coming off "Don't Think I Can't Love You" and "Eight Second Ride." The song doesn't have a strong hook and that might be why but the song is still great. After this peaked, Jake remained quiet until March of 2011 when "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" was released. That song might have saved his career, because who knows what happens if a single flops there.

He first charted twice as James Prosser in 1999 with "Life Goes On" and "Angels Don't Fly" off Warner Bros. Records. He wouldn't sign another record deal nearly a decade later with Broken Bow Records.
"Real" was released in May of 2010 and peaked at #22 in February of 2011. The song was written by Neal Coty and Jimmy Melton. It was off James' album of the same name that wasn't give a true release -- only at his live shows.
I probably could've held off until the 2011 rankdown to include this one but I always consider this a 2010 song. It's pretty middle-of-America lyrically but I think the lyrics are pretty detailed and James sings the hell out of it. I liked "Jackson Hole" even better but this is great. He's also one of the nicest people ever.

This has been overplayed but it's still a good song. Twangy yes, but that's been Luke Bryan from the beginning. This was when he was releasing genuinely country music and this one's melody is undeniable.

That opening minute of Tell Me (album version) is one of the most badass moments in his discography and mainstream country. Lots of 42 for Rain Is A Good Thing lol. "When tin roof gets to talking" is surprisingly a great metaphor. Sucks that "that's the best love we made' is the line following it.

I'm sorry but I hated hated HATED that "Real" song. Bitching about reality shows and comparing the titles to real life struggles just felt way too try-hard and "desperate to cater to an audience" to me. Rain is a Good Thing is the first song of Luke Bryan's I ever really cared for so it has a soft spot. I'll probably jinx them and they'll both go in the next set of reveals but I'm pleasantly surprised both Kellie's are still in!

"Real" is incredible, what a fantastic melody! Love James Wesley's voice too. Shame he didn't make it in the business.
"Tell Me" is also one of my favorite Jake Owen songs. Probably my 2nd fav behind "Alone With You." The instrumentation is incredible and the melody is out of this world good. Both of these songs deserved better, but I guess it could be worse too.
Also not shocked to see "Undo It" is disliked by many here but it's my second favorite Carrie song behind "Before He Cheats" because it's an absolutely euphoric song. Overproduced yes, but so is 90% of her music. I LOVE the opening instrumentation and I think the vocal arrangement in the verse is just to die for, and I love how explosive the chorus is. I guess I can understand where the uh uh uh uh uh undo it could maybe be annoying to some people, but it doesn't bother me at all and I actually find it catchy. Then again, Rihanna singing "umbrella ella-ellla-ella-ay-ay-ay-ay never bothered me either, and I find that catchy as well, and along the same lines as what Carrie does in "Undo It." Anyway, that's my rant, you guys did this song dirty.
"Rain Is A Good Thing" is a dumb song. The lyrics are true I guess, but that doesn't make the song sound any less stupid to me. I think it's the melody and the way Luke delivers it. It was never a song I really cared for to begin with, and it being overplayed and overrated didn't help matters. This should have been out ages ago.

Wow I just listened to "Rain Is A Good Thing Again" and focused on the lyrics and sorry, they're terrible. Typical of Luke. Rain is a good thing for farmers and life in general but that's really not what the song focuses on at all. The chorus lyrics are especially cringey, especially about his baby getting frisky and how they hunt their hunnies down and everyone piling into his truck. Just ew. Melodically the song is bad to me, but lyrically it's way worse.

It was off his unreleased album, Real.
I think this song has it all. The lyrics are great (that imagery), the melody is terrific, James sings it well and that twist ending gutted me when I first heard it. It's a little overproduced but other than that, it's a fantastic song that I'm dumbfounded died at #39 at radio. I'm very happy this finished in the top 40 here.

The song was nominated for "Best Male Country Vocal Performance" at the Grammy's that year.
Great song. It's got a sneaky good melody and the vocals from Nail are outstanding. The music and production don't get in the way, but rather accompany the track.

James Wesley crashed and burned fast! Glad “Jackson Hole” at least made top 40 cuz what a great song! Fantastic.
I don’t really understand the David Nail love. He’s mediocre at best, as is that song.

I really liked "Real" myself, love the lyrics (I hate reality TV in general, but especially the Housewives and Kardashians trash). There were so many I enjoyed that I couldn't rank it much higher than that.

"Tell Me" is a song I didn't remember at all, but I was pleasantly surprised when I revisited it for this. It went out right about where I ranked it so no complaints from me though.

I don’t really understand the David Nail love. He’s mediocre at best, as is that song. Not even remotely. He has one of the best voices to ever grace country radio, hands down. It's a crying shame that he didn't have a much more prolific career. His voice is absolutely mesmerizing.

It peaked at #34 on Mediabase in late July. It was later included on his self-titled, debut album.
Randy is from Albany, New York. His legal name is Randy Schlappi. His dad is longtime singer-songwriter, Billy Montana. Billy charted six times from 1987 to 1995. He co-wrote huge hits such as "Bring on the Rain" by Joe Dee Messina, "Suds in the Bucket" by Sara Evans and "More than a Memory" by Garth Brooks.
Randy co-wrote "Beer Never Broke My Heart" by Luke Combs.
Great song and it's a bummer Randy only got two singles at Mercury before they gave up. This one has such a great melody and the lyrics really fit well with the music.

Dierks always wanted to record a bluegrass album and 2010 was the year he decided to spend on the project.
"Up on the Ridge" has some interesting vocal effects but the melody and instrumentation are great. I'm surprised it had so many lower ranks but no surprise that "Draw Me a Map" fared better.

The song peaked at #15 on Mediabase in January of 2011. It was written by Eric, Jeff Hyde and Driver Williams.
Eric said that "Smoke a Little Smoke" was a song he wanted released to radio because he felt his fans embraced it. His label went with two safe choices for radio "Love Your Love the Most" and "Hell on The Heart" first. While both made the top 10 for Eric, he felt they did nothing for his career. He requested "Smoke a Little Smoke" be the final single. The song went on to beat the sales of any song Eric released up to that point, despite not reaching the top 10 at radio. It's recurrent play also has beat out both "Love Your Love the Most" and "Hell on the Heart." It's still a signature in his live shows.
This song is just a jam. I always get people asking for this one at my job and we still play it every now and then, which is RARE for a non-top 10 song this old.
