I am surprised that "Coal Miner's Daughter" peaked high enough to be included in this rankdown but "Not Ready To Make Nice" didn't peak high enough to be included in the 2006 rankdown... 2006 was my first year-end and had 25 less songs than this one. I started including more when I got the sense people were okay ranking even more songs. I would've included it if I did that RD now. "Coal Miner's Daughter" was included because of a couple separate requests for its inclusion. I apologize for not including "Not Ready to Make Nice", although it seems like I'll forever get comments about that.

It reached #1 by January of 2010. The song was written by Bob DiPiero and Tom Douglas. Tim recorded the song nearly a year and a half before it was a single. He wanted it released in 2008, instead of 2009. Curb insisted on more singles off Let It Go lol.
I didn't care for this one when it first came out but it's grown on me a lot. It really takes me back to late 2009/early 2010. It's not my thing lyrically, but Tim and the melody sells it.

#51. George Strait - "Twang"
Total Points: 939 Average: 58.6 Year Released: October 12th, 2009 Mediabase Peak: #12 Billboard Peak: #14 Rankings:George Strait Junkie - 2 LBTrocks - 7 bboat11 - 24 gardyfan - 25 tim - 25 .indulgecountry - 36 ClevelandRox - 47 g8erboi - 54 recordyear - 59 kw9461 - 78 sabre14 - 78 Kanenrá:ke - 79 Cody Wants Out... - 81 castleoblivion26 - 98 someguy - 121 toomuchboy - 125 Following: Mylo13 💜"Twang" was released as the second single off George Strait's album of the same name in October of 2009. It peaked at #12 on Mediabase in January of 2010. The song was written by Jim Lauderdale, Kendell Marvel and Jimmy Ritchey.
If you know anything about the three writers, you can see why this one sounds so, well, twangy lol. Ritchey has worked with Mark Chesnutt and William Michael Morgan, Lauderdale is big within his country/bluegrass/roots music and Marvel has been pretty outspoken about modern country music, himself.
I should've ranked this one higher lol. It's nowhere near Strait's best and I can see why it might be grating on people but it's a jam.

There are exactly 0 things I like about "Lover, Lover." Awful song. Jerrod is among my least favorite artists to grace the country genre. His voice sucks and I find his music pretty unlistenable at least 90% of the time. AMEN! He's terrible.

#50. Jaron & the Long Road to Love - "Pray For You"
Total Points: 936 Average: 58.5 Year Released: November 30th, 2009 Mediabase Peak: #12 Billboard Peak: #13 Rankings:toomuchboy - 2 sabre14 - 5 ClevelandRox - 9 someguy - 29 bboat11 - 30 castleoblivion26 - 36 gardyfan - 50 George Strait Junkie - 58 .indulgecountry - 61 tim - 63 Kanenrá:ke - 67 g8erboi - 84 LBTrocks - 92 kw9461 - 110 recordyear - 118 Cody Wants Out... - 122 Following: Mylo13 💜 "I hope you birthday comes and nobody calls" "Pray for You" was released as the debut country single for Jaron Lowenstein (credited as Jaron & the Long Road to Love) towards the end of 2009. The song peaked at #12 on Mediabase in July. The song was Jaron's first single for Big Machine Records, along with his own Jaronwood label. The song was written by Jaron and Joel Brentlinger. It was off his debut country album, Gettin Dressed in the Dark.
Jaron was in a pop duo with his twin brother Evan, called Evan and Jaron. Jaron charted once more with "That's Beautiful to Me" later in 2010. He left Big Machine not long after.
I fully expected this to be polarizing but I'm surprised it was able to reach the top 50. I love it lol. It definitely wasn't the countriest song at radio in 2010 but I think it was hilarious and a creative song. It makes me laugh every time. Jaron actually said he wanted to have an "anvil" fall on the ex's head but his brother thought it was a bit too dark lol. He went with flower pot.

#49. Montgomery Gentry - "While You're Still Young"

It peaked at #31 on Mediabase in August. It was written by Jim Collins, Wendell Mobley and Tony Martin. The song was never included on an album. It would end up becoming Montgomery Gentry's final single for Columbia Nashville.
Their previous single was my least favorite MG song ever ("Oughta Be More Songs About That") but I really liked this one. It wasn't quite old-school Montgomery Gentry but it was something I thought would hit for them.

"Still" is such an underrated song. I love everything about it! My favorite part is how dynamic the arrangement is. It might be bombastic in places, but I don't care! I think it is bombastic in all the right ways

Also "Twang" is a modern day country masterpiece from George so stay hating.
"Southern Voice" is AWFUL. Terrible melody and the production is God-Awful... what was Tim thinking.

"Pray For You" is so funny and "Still" is beautiful.
I don't hate George Strait, but "Twang" is unlistenable.

#47. Gretchen Wilson - "Work Hard, Play Harder"
Total Points: 908 Average: 56.7 Year Released: October 26th, 2009 Mediabase Peak: #16 Billboard Peak: #18 Rankings:.indulgecountry - 12 recordyear - 16 Cody Wants Out... - 18 LBTrocks - 25 George Strait Junkie - 44 someguy - 46 ClevelandRox - 55 castleoblivion26 - 57 tim - 57 gardyfan - 64 Kanenrá:ke - 65 sabre14 - 65 g8erboi - 76 toomuchboy - 97 kw9461 - 102 bboat11 - 109 Following: Mylo13 💜"Work Hard, Play Harder" was released as the first single off Gretchen Wilson's own Redneck Records and the first single off her album I Got Your Country Right Here. It hit radio in October of 2009. It peaked at #16 on Mediabase in June of 2010. It was Gretchen's highest peaking since since "All Jacked Up" in 2005. The song was written by Gretchen, John Rich and Vicky McGehee.
Gretchen, the writers, her label and publishing company faced a lawsuit by The Black Crowes, alleging the song copied their song "Jealous Again." The suit was settled out of court. Chris and Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes were given writing credits on "Work Hard, Play Harder." The melody is what the lawsuit was about.
I like this one and it was a surprise top 20 hit in 2010 since Redneck Records couldn't get any other song to the top 40 for Gretchen Wilson.

"Fearless" is more crap from Taylor... her first album was truly where it was at. Sadly, she didn't have the vocal talent to back that first album up. But the album itself was great.

The problem of He Better Be Dead to me is the vocals are too front, almost like detached from insttumentation.
Solid fiddling in Too Late For Goodbye. One of the better radio fodders for sure.
Both Darius Rucker's songs are quite boring.
Dislike both Tim McGraw songs. Did not care the theme of Southern Voice and exaggerated twang at all. The high notes in chorus of Still are so auto-tuned.
Appreciate the distinctiveness in instrumentation of Lover, Lover (almost minimalism?). No particular feelings towards Jerrod's singing however.
The features add nothing to Coal Miner's Daughter. Still a great song lyrically though.
Work Hard, Play Harder is definitely a bop.

recordyear the polarizing vocals on "He Better Be Dead" were always why I was anticipating the song to get hardcore tanked... that and the fact that it's a relatively 'unknown flop' from 2010.... but damn, it's an incredible song. With better vocals, wouldn't you like the song more? Obviously I myself love it as is tho lol.

The song peaked at #38 in May. It was also the final single for Emily off Capitol, as she exited the label after "Blue Sky." The song features Keith Urban on backing vocals.
Emily first charted in the top 40 back in 2008 with "Rocks in Your Shoes."
She later finished second on America's Got Talent in 2014. She released new music soon after the show's season ended.
Great song. It's a little over-the-top at the end but the progression of the song is building, so I don't have a problem with it. She delivered a terrific vocal performance here and I really enjoy its hook.
