Kworb says somewhere around 2.8 mill. I'd imagine that the loss in airplay would counter any gain in streaming from the EP's release, and second week drops in streaming/sales will be compounded by the airplay decline. #BringThatDeadHorseDownToEarth

Throwing my hat in the data-based predictions ring again, looks like the only notable discrepancies point-wise between Simm and me are Truth Hurts being more in the margin of error to make the top 10, Megatron going top 20, Sweet But Psycho and 7 Rings getting tanked thanks to dwindling radio, and Cross Me in the top 30.

SBP and 7 rings have more streams than what is reported. I remember when the latter was in its last 2-3 weeks at #1 that I always underestimated its streams by ~500k-1M.

There was chart manipulation from the very start of One Sweet Dayβs chart run, as there was with the majority of Mariahβs 1990s singles: βThe fax is not the only way Columbia helped push "One Sweet Day" to No. 1, where it has remained for nine weeks. The label also encouraged a rush of sales in the early weeks by giving out free copies to stores reporting to Soundscan or by offering them four singles for the price of one. Stores could then put "One Sweet Day" on sale for 49 to 99 cents, more than $2 below the average price of a single. This has become a common practice for promoting high-priority releases.β www.nytimes.com/1996/01/25/arts/are-pop-charts-manipulated.htmlIt's not like this was only Mariah/Sony doing this. They just did a really good job. The song was also organically huge due to having two chart powerhouses dueting. I am not sure why some here are so eager to diminish/downplay the success of this song. That being said, I really am over caring about the record. Some song is clearly going to stay at #1 for like 20 weeks at the rate we are going. I just hope it's something better than Old Town Road.

I was a senior in HS or had just graduated when "One Sweet Day" was released. It was Huge! No not "I Will Always Love You" huge but it was known and felt like the biggest or 2nd biggest hit of the year. It was that ballad near the Christmas season everyone loved. If their were memes and dedications on the internet back then this would have been that song. Did it deserve 17 weeks? Being a Whitney stan I think "IWALY" deserved it because it felt bigger but it got all of it's points in it's first couple of months. That's just how it rolls. Sometimes the biggest songs aren't the longest running number 1's.

For all we know (since Ed seems to have graduated from the Ariana Grande School of Release Schedule Management) Ed could drop a second album project at the end of the year that doesn't get pushed to radio, after he runs through an entire era in the space of like half a year the way Ari did (twice in succession with no downtime).

Every era seems to have its own chart shenanigans. I think some of that hurt Mariah's stats as much as it helped them. For example, Can't Let Go likely would have been another #1 single for her, but Sony/Columbia deleted the physical single to spur sales of the Emotions album, which they felt were lagging. Similar case for I'll Be There - they only released a limited amount of physical singles, causing it to only spend two weeks at #1 despite being an airplay monster. There were other singles in this boat too, such as My Heart Will Go On, if I remember correctly.
Some of the other tactics hurt more in the long run, for Mariah and for other artists too. All the songs that debuted at #1 (think 1995-1997) due to physical singles being withheld until airplay was high have artificially short chart runs, hurting their all-time rankings using the inverse point system. All of those songs would have climbed up the charts for several weeks before hitting their peak. Mariah's whole Daydream era is a product of this. I think all three of the official singles would be higher on the all time list if it weren't for this. OSD really isn't one of her most remembered songs in the long run, but Fantasy and Always Be My Baby are two of her most enduring classic hits.

Records are set every week I guess Like for instance this already holds the record for longest #1 that features an aging country artist Soon though - this will be the longest stay at #1 period so it won't matter anyway

Didnβt he just come out publicly this week? Those other weeks would not count towards the βopenlyβ qualifier.
