“You Don’t Lie Here Anymore” was the lead single to Shelly Fairchild’s debut album Ride where it became her first and only Top 40 hit. Unfortunately it failed to reach that peak here as it just misses the top 40. In fact this pretty much hovered around the top 45 for most of the time except near the end of the submissions as it received help from SHOOTER’s top 10 and from LBTrocks who becomes our first participant to lose their #1 song.

¡ENCORE!
Hillary Lindsey "Jesus Take the Wheel" Jesus, take the wheel Take it from my hands 'Cause I can't do this on my own I'm letting go So give me one more chance And save me from this road I'm on
Loretta Lynn "Portland, Oregon" feat. Jack White In a booth in the corner with the lights down low I was movin' in fast, she was takin' it slow, uh huh, uh huh Well, I looked at him and caught him lookin' at me I knew right then we were playin' free in Oregon
Sarah Buxton "Innocence" The one thing I can't get back is the one thing I miss It was breaking rules, flying blind What you see through younger eyes It wasn't what I thought it was I realize it ain't him I miss It's that young girl, wild-eyed, first love, one time innocence
Rachel Proctor "Baby Don't Let Me Go" Close that door that I swung open With those stupid words that fell out of my mouth I wasn't thinkin straight at all The only thing I know for sure is This is where, this is where I belong
Shelly Fairchild "Tiny Town" That I can come home I just can't stay long Gotta make a little money trying to sing my songs My hearts still there even though I'm gone I've put my roots deep in the ground Of that tiny town

Of course Flops loses his #1 first! But I’m low key pissed because that was one of my favorite discoveries! 😑
Portland, Oregon would’ve been higher on my list had it been included.

Going to stop there tonight but I wanted to make sure to get in some reveals before tomorrow evening since I know most of us will be watching the CMA Awards. I'll pick things up again later this week and by the weekend I hope to have us into the top 30!

This actually isn't as common as one might think Anyway, everyone already knows the obsession I have for "You Don't Lie Here Anymore' so I won't rant again, I'm just here to say Shooter and I are right and y'all that tanked it are wrong. The end. Goodbye. Nice knowing ya. Have a nice life.

I knew "The Clown" via Reba first, but I made sure to listen to the original before I ranked it (in these cases I simply assume the original is worse, that they write for other people because they can't sing very well). But, wow, Hillary Lindsey has a phenomenal voice. I actually love hers more than Reba's version. I'd read that name quite a lot over the years as a credit in other artists' albums. Why isn't she a star herself like Maren and Kacey?

Love both version of The Clown. It depends on whether you want to hear high range or lower range vocals, and more contemporary vs traditional country approach. I love both! Miss Being Mrs. is a great song lyrically (the double meaning of "Miss" is pretty cool) but it fits more in the parent album than a playlist. Her vocal probably stands out in a bad way for a few participants.

Wow, I had a good round. Lost 4 bottom 5s in a row. Sorry to all those songs that went out in the past round, but I didn't really care for most of them beyond "this is okay, but nothing I'd seek out." "The Clown" remains a dreary song that I just can't get into. Loretta is great, but she doesn't stack up against most of these with her weathered voice imo. Shelly Fairchild deserved better tho: "You Don't Lie Here Anymore" is a total jam. Really?!? Bottom 20s for "Me and Emily"? Her voice sounds rough on the song. I'm sure I'd like it more with a better vocalist. But Miss Proctor sounded like she needed a throat lozenge. I don't hate the song, but she drags it down vocally.

I had a friend with a baby going through the same type of struggles when Me and Emily came out, so it's always held a soft spot from personal memories.
How many versions of The Clown are there? I think the first version I heard was Jessica Andrews a few years ago. I've just never really been able to get into it either.

All these songs from this last 5 are amazing! I knew people would tank Loretta which is sacrilegious to me but whatever I guess. :'( "The Clown" is great from all 3 versions but I've remained partial to Jessica Andrews', her vocal on it is so beautiful. "Me and Emily" is so powerful to me, though after meeting .indulgecountry and him showing me specifically the parts he doesn't like I do hear them now lol "Outside My Window" is just so cute, but it is one of the weaker tracks from Sarah imo lol

Alright who is ready to jump into the top 40?! There was a tie for #39 and #40 so the tiebreaker went to the song with the most top 10's and with it someone will lose their second top 10 as well while four others will lose a bottom 5. I've got a Corona in hand and enough songs to last all night...so let's get this started!

“Finding' a Good Man” was released as the second single from Danielle Peck’s self-titled debut album and was her highest charting song as it peaked at #16 in 2006. This started out as an early bottom 5 contender as it received quite a few bottom 10 rankings from the outset (including myself). It began a steady climb, however, thanks to three top 20’s and continued to rebound as it received a top 10 from toomuchboy as well as gardyfan . It ended up sliding back just a bit with the last two lists where it finally settled just inside the top 40.

The next song ended up receiving four top 10's which was enough to be the tiebreaker and put it just ahead of "Findin' a Good Man" (I also happen to like the next song more!). Unfortunately for one of our fellow participants they lose a SIXTH top 10...

“Simple Love” was released as the second single from Alison Krauss’ compilation album A Hundred Miles or More: A Collection. While the song did not chart it did receive a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 2008. This is yet another song that I had no idea how it would perform and while there were quite a few songs from her 2000’s discography that I had in mind this is the one I kept coming back around to the most as it seemed to fit within the theme that I was going for. This pretty much remained a consistent top 45 contender as that is where most of the participants ending up placing this. There were three, however, that weren’t feeling the love and ended up putting this in their bottom 5 including a last place from Cody Wants Out... . And much to the dismay of Kanenrá:ke he loses a sixth top 10 along with three others.
