Pulse Rankdown: 1992 Year-End Alternative Chart (finished)

Public Spreadsheet

1) PM me (peacebone) the top 100 Alternative songs of 1992, all ranked to your preference. (e.g. if you like a song the most, rank it the highest and vice versa).
2) The points a song has will be totaled up based on an inverse point system. So if you rank a song #100, it gets 1 point, and if you rank a song #1, it gets 100 points. All the points from the participants will be totaled up.
3) The due date for submission is Thursday, August 1st. The deadline time is 7 PM US Eastern. No extensions. I don't think any federal holidays are occurring around this time, so you can't use that as an excuse, either.
4) ALL songs must be ranked.
5) To avoid posting with duplicate lines when you PM me, click BBCode below the text box before pasting your list.
6) While not a requirement, it would be appreciated if you sent your list in the Artist - Song format and kept the artist and song names as they are here (e.g. put The Cure, not Cure; or Talking Heads, not The Talking Heads).
7) All your rankings will be posted when I post a song in this thread.
8) You are allowed to make changes to your list, as long as you do so before the deadline.
9) For reference, here are the top 100 Alternative songs of 1992. The top 29 is from Billboard ("Smells Like Teen Spirit" is in the official Billboard top 30, but it was moved to 1991 where it has more points), the other 71 is compiled by Daryl the Beryl.

So...yes, I'm hosting two rock chart rankdowns at (almost) the same time. Why not?

I haven't hosted a retro Alt rankdown since...2001's. Feels strange knowing that it's been almost a year, but I'm glad that I can finally take one of these for myself. Especially now that we've entered the golden age of the Alt charts, the era where Alternative radio was truly alternative.

So many excellent songs on this list...where to begin? This was the first year that grunge was truly prevalent on the charts (ok, we still have "Smells Like Teen Spirit" to rank in 1991, but that's it) - so yes, this is the last year we rank Pearl Jam. There's a lot of cool stuff scattered throughout this list, too...artists making their rock chart rankdown debut include Talking Heads, Ramones, XTC, The B-52's, Lou Reed, and Public Image Ltd! Lots of big album eras have representation here - Nevermind, Ten, Automatic for the People, Achtung Baby, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, among others. Faith No More make their last appearances this year (yep, we aren't ranking "Epic" in a rock chart rankdown), early Nine Inch Nails material shows up (and we aren't done with them, either), and bands such as Ministry, Ride, L7, and St. Etienne make their lone appearances here. Several songs already featured in personal rankdowns ("Drive", "High", "Nearly Lost You", "Midlife Crisis", "Mysterious Ways"...among others), too.

Anyways, enough talking, now get to listening and ranking. Have fun, everyone!

I never liked that look. especially on girls. I was till wearing the leather pants and fringes jackets. Come to think of it I still often do.

well, there’s a chance we might not be ranking With Or Without You & ISHFWILF because the archive of magazines during those early months of ‘87 are missing so I have no proof they charted on Alt stations...we’ll have to make decisions on whether to add those (& other songs from that timeframe) in anyway
as far as Dear God goes, it peaked at #3 (if not higher) so it will definitely be 1 of the songs we rank

What magazine are you talking about, something like FMQB or CMJ? Google Books and Americcan Radio History don't have much of either of those so I'm curious as to what your source is.

I think my favorite song that I've discovered during all these alternative rankdowns, is in this year and I love it so much. I never thought I'd find that many great songs before 1995 in flashback alt rankdowns lol
