14. A Small Victory - Faith No MoreThe only victory this song accomplished was a sure slot in my bottom tank. Cheeeeeesey as hell. refers to this song as "Cheeeeeesey" proceeds to rank "Friday I'm In Love" all the way up at #2(And I say this as someone who really, really likes that song. I recognize cheese when I hear it, and "Friday I'm In Love" is Wisconsin-level cheese.)

After a brief (and by "brief", I mean "one rankdown") break from doing these, I think it's time to get back to work with the TOP TEN P-P-P-P-PREVIEW! As always, if I'm forgetting something or if I've messed up somewhere, I'm sure you won't hesitate to let me know.
- This is a decent rock chart rankdown for the first timers, as both The Catherine Wheel and L7 are making their first top ten appearance. Also making a noteworthy first top ten appearance are The Cure, albeit not with the song that most people would have expected. - This is the second top ten appearance for Faith No More, and given that their first top ten appearance barely cracked the top ten in Active ("Ashes to Ashes"), "Midlife Crisis" will not have to do a lot to improve upon that performance. - Speaking of "second top ten appearance", Temple of the Dog are going from making an Active top ten in 1993 to making an Alt top ten in 1992. "Hunger Strike" will look to do what "Say Hello 2 Heaven" couldn't and make the top five. - And another one...Screaming Trees are back, doing the rare Active to Alt double. "Nearly Lost You" will also look to make the top five and avoid its fate in Active 1993. - It's time for some heavy hitters, starting with one of our two previous rock chart rankdown winners. Nine Inch Nails are looking to win their second Alt rock chart rankdown (and third total), but "Happiness in Slavery" definitely has its detractors. How high can it go with those detractors in mind? - Pearl Jam are also making their seventh top ten appearance, and though they've never won a rankdown, they've come fairly close on multiple occasions now. Can "Jeremy" break the trend? - Nirvana are making this a bit of a habit now, and we will be seeing them for the ninth time tonight. Despite their numerous top ten appearances, they have yet to win a rock chart rankdown. Could "Come as You Are" be the song to change that? - And finally, back in the rock chart rankdown top ten for the first time in a long time, Red Hot Chili Peppers are making their twelfth top ten appearance with their biggest song. "Under the Bridge" is definitely a #1 contender, but will that translate to the Peppers winning their second Alt rankdown?

#10 has only five top 10s, and only one of them is a top 5. Five bottom 50s, and only one is a bottom 25.

To say that I'm pleasantly surprised to see this make the top ten would be an understatement.

#9 only has three bottom half rankers. It spent most of its time in the top 15.

There is real cheese, that cheese spread and that fake ass cheese. Take your pick. Besides "Friday I'm In Love" is fun.

Well, I don't really care about the winner now.
It takes a lot for me to rank a song ahead of two songs I've included in rankdowns before, but "Midlife Crisis" is one of the closest songs I can think of to being a 10/10 that isn't quite a 10/10 for me. It's my favorite FNM song, and I'm not even really sure that it's close.

10. Pretend We're Dead - L7This is perfect female Alternative Rock. Reminds me a lot of Throwing Muses or Morning Wood, Garbage and harder Cranberries.I knew it would be #10. 9. A Letter to Elise - The CureDamn. You guys this needed more top 10's 8. Happiness in Slavery - Nine Inch NailsFirst time listen. This isn't as noizy as "N.W.O" but still from the stable of music unpleasantness. Truth be told I know I would like this way more if Manson sang it. It almost sounds like something he could sing.

7. Midlife Crisis - Faith No More What the hell is up with that vocal delivery. MTV used to play this alot. Sometimes would even come sandwiched inbetween two Def Leppard songs on MTV TRL. That's when I would get up and get a bag of chips or something.

this song isn't even bad (it'll probably be way higher on my active list) but I knew this would autopilot it's way to beating so many better pearl jam songs and this song brings out the worst in eddie vedder's voice

6. Jeremy - Pearl Jam One of my favorite Pearl Jam songs. Just missed my top 10. Eddie really gives it his all in the vocal delivery and for once I get a feeling of Power from his vocal range. and it gets better as it reaches the end. This is also the last time I'll put a P.J. song this high. It's not happening on Active. Not with all those 80's icons crammed into one YE list, but this is a good memory. Great music video. I always wondered? Did he shoot himself or did he start shooting at the kids?
