Ugh, I so wanted to rank this top ten. 18 year old me would have slapped his forehead if he saw that I had done this.

5. Hunger Strike - Temple of the Dog Now this goes back to the Eddie vedder "crooning" style. Soundgarden didn't impress me much either. How the hell did this beat the stellar "Jeremy"?

The top 4 are separated by ELEVEN points.
Let's start with #4...which actually doesn't have a #1! All but one of its top 10s are top 5s, however.

Daddeeeee little f**kCLEEEEES TUHDEEEEE HOO HOO HOO HOO This song is like the aura of sludge rock if you took everything cool about sludge rock out of it and replaced it with absurd melodrama. A shambles of a song what is "Sludge Rock"? I thought P.J. were Grunge. What other bands are considered "sludge rock"?

singingrulebritannia. First three songs were better than the last one. The middle two had impressive guitar works. "Pink" being my favorite of the four. "Scream Of The Butterfly" sounds like a "Jeremy" inspired song or vice a versa, but Eddie's vocal delivery was much stronger. The fourth song wasn't for me.

There's a single #1, eight other top 5s, and three other top 10s on #3. Four bottom 50s.

4. Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers Very surprised this didn't win. It's the song that put them on the map,and my highest rank left. Perfect Alternative Rock IMOP.
Please anything but Nirvana. You guys can put Nirvana "Smells Like "Party Rock(impersonating as Grunge) Spirit" song at #1 on the next RD. I won't be mad, but not "Come As You Are"

3. Nearly Lost You - Screaming Trees I elevated this one a lot more from Active to Alt. Good for Alt but not stellar. You guys really like this song huh?
Please anything but "Come As You Are".

This could have been one of the great rock chart rankdown stories of all time. The rare song that triumphed on Alt after not making the top five in Active.
Just for this, I really hope Nirvana is #2.

1 vs. 61
I'm both fucking ecstatic that my #1 somehow made the top two no matter what happens and kind of sad that the blatant ripoff that is the worst nirvana song we've ranked yet is their best alt performer yet lol

Wait how the fuck did I miss this whole RD??
Great top 10 though! My #1 would have made it! One of: Happiness in Slavery, Jeremy or Come As You Are would have been it.

10 vs 48...I really like my 48, it’s just that I liked 47 others more (like Something Good & Move Any Mountain, so judge away, I don’t care)

Just three points separated the top two.
Both have #1s - one has two, the other has one. One has nine top 5s, the other six. One has 13 top 10s, the other 12. And both have three bottom 50s.

Perfect "chick rock" song. I also like the name of the album it comes from: Bricks Are Heavy. 8
Happiness in Slavery Nine Inch Nails
The song is excellent; the video, quite disturbing. 7
Midlife Crisis Faith No More
P-P-P-P-Perfect ranking! That makes four in this rankdown, which has to be a personal record for me. By the way, I actually don't care for the vocals in the verses of this song, because they're not enunciated well, but everything else about this song kicks so much ass to more than compensate for that minor detail. You can feel the suspense and agony right before the final chorus, and the vocal counterpoint in the final chorus is awesome as the song fades out.
Does anybody else think Eddie Vedder makes a lot of weird faces in the music video? 5
Hunger Strike Temple of the Dog
I love hearing Chris Cornell hit the high notes in this song. 4
Under the Bridge Red Hot Chili Peppers
I like other Red Hot Chili Peppers songs even better, but this is no doubt a classic, and a very worthy signature song, crossing over to the pop charts and peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 on June 6, 1992. It's a damn shame that Kris Kross couldn't step down from #1 a week or two earlier than they did. This song makes me feel relaxed when I hear it. It's a perfect easy-listener.

Kriss Kross keeping The Red Hot Chili Peppers out of #1 is the WTF of the week.
edit; F U C K Kriss Kross.
2. Come as You Are - Nirvana Ha! in your face. 'nuff said.
1. Black Metallic - The Catherine Wheel
Nice. Wasn't quite sure this would get all those top 10, but why complain. This song easily rolled into my top 10 the moment I saw it on the list. Very soothing with the shogaze vibe and Rob's vocals but also extremely satisfying with the guitars and ,melody.
