The charts can't be better, smarter, stronger than the "music" they represent. The "music" is not better or worse than the people who consume it.

I'm really perplexed with Sunflower.
I most certainly wouldn't say it feels like a bigger & more signature hit for him than Rockstar, Congratulations, or even Better Now. Yet it's about to be his biggest hit chart wise and probably numbers wise.

^^Yeah, might as well since the Hot 100 seems to be in a record-breaking mood. I think a lot more records will be broken now (including records broken repeatedly in a short span of time) with streaming dominating. It puts a lot more power into the hands of the individual consumer than sales (where consumers typically purchased the product no more than once) and radio (which was driven based on the larger group of consumers.. meaning if a large percentage of listeners were burned out on a song, radio would drop a record even if many listeners still wanted to hear it). Now if a bunch of people want to hear a song 10x a day for months on end, they can do that and it will count toward the charts. Itβs also helped with βmost entriesβ type records too since an act can release a 20-track album, and if theyβre popular enough, the whole album can chart. 20 years ago that wasnβt possible.

Not only is a terrible song #1 for 17 weeks, the top 10 has been stale af! Ridiculous no one else has accumulated 500 points since Taylor. Where are the hits?!?! The hits will come, be patient. By the way, I just said "nope" because his twitter name is nope, so I was being sarcastic with it.

There are no pure rap tracks in top ten this week. I don't count OTR and Goodbyes as such, both are pretty much sung.
EDIT: Forgot about Lizzo LOL, so nevermind

Sunflower is probably one of the best rap singles released in years. Glad it's doing so well.

So streaming for OTR: 72.5 million Bad Guy 50.9 million
wonder if the airplay gap is big enough next week to overcome this...

Yes, it seems that there are less and less infectious pop songs released and especially that the summer is almost over. I think The Song of Summer title should not be given away, because there is none(maybe Lizzo). Lil Nas X song was released and peaked on pop radio chart in spring, so it really is not remembered as the song of summer 2019. Where are summer hits? I blame music business and pop radio. Please find some new stars, start from small stations like it used to be and make a lot of Little Lil Nas X-s, Y-s and Z-s, so the market will start to bloom. at least next summer. Please donΒ΄t count on dinosaurs!

Congratulations to Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus for breaking the record, with a little help from some friends of course. This chart run has been incredible to watch, cheers everybody! π€ π»

I actually played it several times since yesterday. It's actually not too hard to avoid some of the biggest hits.

You choose what you listen to. however, if you have listened to pop radio or any pop music playlist in the last 10 months, you should have heard sunflower.

Yet it's about to be his biggest hit chart wise and probably numbers wise. Sunflower is bigger than all those hits, because of it's wide appeal. Rockstar was huge but its content was not exactly kid friendly, while Sunflower is a great for the whole family. I don't know how to say it, but the song really is modern, rewatching Spider-Verse last week and seeing Miles sing the song to himself in the beginning of the movie really made everything click. That's what we all do, we all sing horribly to a song we love and relate to Miles in the movie, especially teenagers as that flick is perpetually teenage in all the good ways. That's what Sunflower represents to me. Also kids love it since it was in an animated movie, and parents like that it's catchy. It's just a great damn song and I'm hoping it takes the Top 10 record from Sheeran and Maroon 5.
