Are we on the verge of a new teen artist boom? There are three in the top ten right now (I know Lil Nas X is 20, but he was 19 when Old Town Road hit number one). You could even count in Shawn Mendes (who is 20--turning 21 this week) and Khalid (who turned 21 this year) honestly since they got famous in the past couple years when they were teens.

RAN$OM: climbing 7-4 (38.5 million, up 36%). It also gains by 59% to 6.1 million airplay audience and 50% to 4,000 sold.
Tiny numbers for sales and airplay but #4 in Streaming make it a Top 10 hit. This is why I disagree with those who say Airplay or even Sales are weighted too high. Streaming is certainly the dominant metric and a strong streaming hit can be successful without much in the other two.

How long has Grande been charting with at least 1 song? Is it an unbroken streak since NTLTC?

hey gary, we all know how to read. no need to spoonfeed us information from the article like we're 2 years old. Really? Of all the posts on here, you're going to complain about someone basically giving a TLDR by highlighting a few key bullets from a 1,000+ word article? Be civil. oh sorry about my original post then, apparently not everyone has the ability to read and synthesize information! my b

How long has Grande been charting with at least 1 song? Is it an unbroken streak since NTLTC? Last week not as Grande 5-5-18 That's the chart where NTLTC bowed in at #3, right? While it definitely is not unprecedented, it is pretty cool to see these streaks happen. Everyone keeps talking about longest stay at #1 (rightfully so--it's a big one) but to be honest my favorite Billboard record is longest artist runs in the top ten which Katy Perry holds right now. Do you know how long Ariana's 2014-15 streak was? I remember she had the most top tens out of all artists that year, and I'm pretty sure she charted every week from "Problem"s first week through "One Last Time"s last, maybe more.

Billboard had already lost all credibility and continues to go downhill.

This is why I disagree with those who say Airplay or even Sales are weighted too high. Streaming is certainly the dominant metric and a strong streaming hit can be successful without much in the other two. Why though? Streaming is literally the most dominant way people consume music today, so it makes sense it is the most important element for the charts. I will continue disagreeing with airplay, because there is too much gatekeeping/manipulating going on for radio for it to really represent consumer opinion. Airplay figures are not reliable in my opinion simply because they are not coming from the consumer directly -- even though consumer opinion is a part of the programming process, it is not equivalent to direct consumer actions of purchasing a song or streaming it.

We’re still questioning the state of U.S radio airplay and its involvement in the charts in 2019?
With a country comprised of a population of over 325M, and radio being a dominant factor in how people across the country hear/listen to music and has been the case since the 1940’s, it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
O.T:
I still feel that “Bad Guy” is going to chart at number one, if even for one week. Does anyone know how close it is to making the Decade-End charts?

F.R.I.E.N.D.S. actually had a very funny and very just coincidence of chart positions/punishments. #2 peak on Pop songs, #11 peak on hot 100 , #11 year end on pop songs, and #26 on Hot 100 year end. 4 times it was one position away from a benchmark. That is a funny yet sad coincidence with Marshmello and Anne-Marie finessed way too many times.

I like 'bad guy' and I'm rooting for that record. There's like hundreds of one-week #1s, but this will (probably) be the only song in history to spend 11 weeks at #2. That's more special and impressive imo. ALSO Chart geeks will remember this more than Sucker, I'm sure.

Well... Technically
1-debut Exhale (Shoop Shoop) (From "Waiting To Exhale"), Whitney Houston The Billboard Hot 100 1995-11-25
then the next 11 weeks at #2
behind One Sweet Day

Wow! Bad Guy has been number two for eight weeks but is still one of a dozen songs blocked from the top by Old Town Legend!

Toni Braxton’s “Unbreak My Heart” would have been a 15 week number one had it not been blocked by Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” for four weeks as it fell to #2.
Although the song is an absolute classic and known by most, its chart performance is what impresses me the most.
11 weeks at number one + 25 weeks in the top ten.
I believe only two other Female songs in history have spent double-digit weeks at number one along with 20+ weeks in the top ten: “We Belong Together” & “We Found Love” with 14/23 & 10/23 respectively.

She doesn't need it , the lead from her next album would be a pretty safe bet to debut at one

I have hope that it's not too late yet. I didn't think it would ride out at #2 for this long once it first hit the position, so I feel like it can still make it.

i don't think bad guy is gonna get to #1, unfortunately. it's about to reach its peak on radio, plus senorita and truth hurts are going to overtake it quite soon. i think it would be awesome if it could break the record for the most weeks at #2 though - two top 2 records being set this year would be crazy.
