"Hillbilly Bone," Part II
Curious to hear how this one is going to sound though after thinking "God's Country" was one of the best things he's put out in a looong time. Also curious to see if this will be polarizing with radio at all since in recent history they seem to have decided that the word 'hell' is problematic for whatever reason.

Looking forward to this! I feel like the title is weird because people usually say “hell yeah” or “damn right”. I’ve never heard anyone say “hell right” but I guess I will hear someone sing it for the first time on Friday.
It’ll be nice to see Trace back on the radio as well. His last number 1 was oddly enough with Blake Shelton on “Hillbilly Bone.”

Because of who is releasing this, fresh off of the biggest single he's had in years, I'll be interested to see how this goes and even if it IS a hit sounding single, will audience testing ultimately kill it. Going from "God" to "Hell" in two singles. interesting.

If this goes #1 that’ll be 2 singles in a row by Blake that Hardy has been a writer on. Hardy is making a name for himself not only as a songwriter but now an artist. I think his single Rednecker will be a top 10 hit if not a #1. As for Blake’s duet partner Trace this will possibly be his 16th top 10 and it will possibly be Blake’s 33rd. Not to mention possibly his 27th #1 which would put him in 4th place all time on the country Airplay #1’s list behind George, Kenny and Tim. I never thought in a million years Blake would’ve had this many hits in his career. I’m glad he has had great success though.

If this does top the chart, I'll be able to put Trace Adkins' name on the list of those with the most #1s. If it does top the chart, Blake Shelton and Adkins will be perfect with their duets. They topped the chart together in 2010 with Hillbilly Bone, which started Shelton's amazing streak of chart topping hits. The last two artists who took their first two duets to the top are Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton with Islands In The Stream (1983) and Real Love (1985).

People are probably focusing too much on these words, lol. I don't think programmers care about mild language. They want a catchy song that tests well. How is "hell" even considered a swear word in this day and age?

Blake and his team are positioning themselves very interestingly. Blake is going to be all over the radio. I'm sure the recurrent airplay for "God's Country" will be solid since it was such a huge song, he's currently on "Dive Bar" with Garth Brooks and he's going to have a new single which I'm sure will get plenty of airplay and quickly, too. That is a lot of Blake. This is will be fun to watch!

“Straight to Hell” was a tough sell at radio from the beginning for many reasons. “What the Hell Did I Say” was a fourth single that didn’t have a ton of momentum to begin with. It could’ve climbed a lot higher up the charts but Capitol chose not to invest in a marathon chart run. I don’t think there’s enough evidence to say that radio can’t handle mild swears. I guess we’ll finally get an answer to this question with this single.

A song with the word hell in the title has not topped the Billboard Country Airplay Chart since 2015. Dustin Lynch's "Hell of a Night" was the last to top the chart in September 2015. Brantley Gilbert also top the chart earlier in that year with "One Hell Of An Amen". Frankie Ballard's "Heullva Life" in 2014 is the only other song to reach the pinnacle of the chart this decade with hell in the title.

Right there you have three songs that had no problem going to #1 with the word “hell” in the title this decade. Unless the culture has changed rapidly since 2015, there’s no reason to think radio would suddenly start caring about “hell” now.

So if we expand this, since 1969 only five songs have topped the Billboard Country Charts with the word hell in the title. The above mentioned "Hell of A Night" and "One Hell Of An Amen" in 2015, "Helluva Life" in 2014... and also "If You're Going Through Hell (Before The Devil Even Knows You're There)" by Rodney Atkins in 2006 and "War Is Hell (On The Homefront Too)" by T.G. Sheppard in 1982. I believe the only song to top the chart with "damn" (another light swear) in that time frame is Jo Dee Messina's "My Give A Damn's Busted" in 2005.

Well hopefully it sounds nothing like "Hillbilly Bone" because that song is awful lol. I want something dark and unique like "God's Country" was.

But honestly I wouldn't follow up a dark song, with a dark song. The lyrics will probably be party..but I'm hoping the instrumentation is more traditionally country

I just don't want it to be HB Part 2, or a song that follows every horrid trend currently plaguing the country genre.

I am not sure David Garcia involvement in this would make this a traditional country leaning song.

I am not sure David Garcia involvement in this would make this a traditional country leaning song. The teaser I got, while it was the beginning of the track and didn’t reveal much, sounded country and right up Blake and Trace’s alley. We’ll see how the rest of it sounds on Friday lol. Song starts with crickets chirping and there is the faintest drum backbeat in the mix though..

Excited about this one. Should be good with hardy being one of the writers. He said got incredible talent.

I've heard Hardy's demo of this. It will be very polarizing. But I love it.

I'd assume this means this isn't going to be overtly 'traditional'. Then again, who knows how much Blake is messing with us, though.

Assuming correctly; not very much at all traditional about it.

I thought Blake was tired of recording music, lol. This must've been a really special song if he was willing to come back to the studio to record it. Excited to hear this.

Except that he's recorded plenty. Two songs in July, plus twelve or thirteen prior to that this year, I believe (definitely some in January).
