Karma is so… uneventful. Such a middling song that should have never been a single. Unleash the kraken!!!

Once Karma reaches Top 5 on CHR they need to send this for adds. The single from Speak Now (TV) will most likely not have legs and this is just waiting to be released. This could be a huge hit for her.

It'll be funny if this blows up on its own and they never actually do anything whatsoever...so here for it regardless.

Given how Fast Car didng on country radio before it was officially released a single (it was already at #12 before it was officialy released), i really hope this could pull something similar, and i think it can do it!

It seems Capital FM in the UK (big station there) are ignoring Karma and decided to playlist Cruel Summer instead. Wtf

Karma is so… uneventful. Such a middling song that should have never been a single. Unleash the kraken!!! It made complete sense as a single: it's a bop, it's very on-brand for Taylor. I don't think anyone was expecting it to break records, but it got a cute re-peak and is keeping radio fed until the Cruel Summer tsunami hits :)

With the huge adds hauls for 'Miracle' and 'Popular' I'm now lowkey expecting this is gonna get bumped out of the top 50 by Sunday. We'll see how the end of the week shakes out re: purges (Coi Leray goes recurrent and there's a few songs that should be out of the top 40 by then) but I'm not sure it's gonna be top 50 on Sunday morning.

They really need to push this on radio. Streaming has shown that the public prefers this over Karma. Honestly, I’m glad Cruel Summer is finally getting its moment. This is the best song on Lover and it should’ve been a single back in 2019.

I am still blown away at the fact that money was wasted to push the horrendous "You Need to Calm Down" over this in 2019. Hopefully she has a great video ready to go for it too.

I go back and forth about promoting this. Only because how much additional money will they make off it? I thought I read an article before that it costs a lot to promote something to radio, but that was before radio started fading. Maybe a cute video might be nice. I don’t know it seems like it’s doing well enough on its own and they’re probably making free money off it now? I could be way off though. Lol. She’s got a new project coming up soon. Maybe there’s something off that they may want to promote??

Move along. I mean, I personally do not like the song because I think it's not catchy at all and I find it quite annoying. I don't think lyrically it accomplishes what she's trying to say. I have no issue with the statement she was trying to make with that song and I respect her a lot for doing that. I just think it was pointless to pick it as a single. ME! was not a great choice as well. And apparently, I am not the only one to feel that way, since neither YNTCD nor ME! are fan favorites. EDIT: I might be wrong about YNTCD not being a fan favorite as I am only speaking off of personal experience. I have heard many people say they would have left that song (as well as ME!) off of Lover completely but I see how this might not be representative of a larger audience. I stand by saying that Cruel Summer would have been a stronger single than YNTCD.

I thought YNTCD was a fan favorite? It performed well during its’ chart run and it’s still very quotable/meme-able today. ME! on the other hand was just an all around bad choice.

I don’t recall YNTCD being a fan favorite, think most fans found it to be a weak 2nd single. Her single rollout during that era was horrendous.

You Need To Calm Down should've been the lead IMO, it was way more eventful than ME!. Cruel Summer would've been a great second single dropped in June.

YNTCD was fine as a 2nd single, the biggest head-scratcher of all time is choosing ME! (the worst song in Taylor's catalogue) as the lead single. Cruel Summer as the pre-album lead probably would've gotten her another 1M+ album debut.

I don't think "ME!" is that much of a head scratcher. Hindsight is 20/20; It just kinda sounds like one of those feel good songs like "Happy" or "Can't Stop the Feeling." "Cruel Summer" just should have taken one of the two slots.

It literally screams lead single regardless of how good it actually is. It's cut from the same cloth as "Shake It Off" (which I also don't care for) but no one calls that a dumb choice since it was successful.

It's cut from the same cloth as "Shake It Off" (which I also don't care for) but no one calls that a dumb choice since it was successful. Taylor 100% tried to cash in on the success of Can’t Stop the Feeling and Happy. The major difference is that those songs were made for kids movies (Trolls and Despicable Me 2 respectively) and so just like Peaches from Mario Bros Movie, they are intentionally corny as hell and their repetitive nursery rhyme beats/lyrics are supposed to appeal to 5 year olds. Me! executed that niche very well but wasn’t attached to a kids movie - and thus it came across as forced and clingy. It totally painted people’s perception of the entire album as a whole. First singles sometimes make or break an album cycle. Lucky for Taylor she is the exception to the rule but Me! as the lead definitely got the era off to a rocky start. It’s no surprise that it was the album to break her streak of 1 million debuts.

"You Need To Calm Down" wasn't the disastrous single choice that era whatsoever; that title belongs to "Me!" In fact I think "You Need To Calm Down" performed relatively well given how hard "Me!" crashed and burned after it's initial debut and how it stained a lot of people's perception of the era. "You Need To Calm Down" should have led the era followed by "Cruel Summer".
And I'm sorry but "Me!" isn't cut from the same cloth as "Shake It Off" IMO. lol They might both be uptempos and have a "feel good" atmosphere via their production, but "Shake It Off" is more personally representative of Taylor lyrically and far more accessible/relatable to adults where as "Me!" targets such a young demo that it plays/feels corny past a certain age and lyrically feels more generic.
