Obviously Avamaxstan was using hyperbole but this has not only outperformed "Willow", but also other tracks that got big pushes like "All Too Well", "Karma", "cardigan", and "ME!".

It's wild to me that they haven't even dropped a video using footage from the tour. Not only would it assist "Cruel Summer" in getting to #1, but would also work as promo for the tour film.

feels like the main point of singles is to sell albums, and i don't think she's super invested in Lover over 4 years later. especially when her current album midnights is still glued to the top 10 and is her awards bid.

I can't help but think there has to be some larger plan for why this was never given any sort of promo. Like, it essentially opens the tour. Meanwhile, she hasn't even performed Me! as a surprise song (yet) lol.

This is on track to be within her top 5 biggest hits overall and likely her biggest hit on pop radio... there's got to be a reason behind the cold shoulder.

You have to do it from a desktop/laptop it won't work in the app. And I couldn't get it to work from chrome on my phone, either; only by logging into the website on my laptop.

Like, I understand the "let it climb naturally" argument after her recent #1s were borderline Mariah-ish. But there's a big difference between releasing Cruel Summer - The Hawaiian Remix and acknowledging that the song exists. She is absolutely allowed to tweet about the song and release a music video (even if it's just clips from the tour).

everyone here already pointed out how easy it would be to give it the few extra point to secure #1 without even having to do much. rip the audio from the movie and release it. pick whatever leftover photo that look vaguely pink and make it an alternate single cover for itunes. hell, just get Taylor Nation to tweet anything about the song. the fact they didn't mean someone, likely Taylor herself, actively does not want to do it. considering how petty she can be i genuinely think there's a hidden feud somewhere and her not doing anything is her trying to make a point.

If she hates the song so much, why would she highlight it as the first full length song she performs during the setlist?

Taylor is making republic a lot of money and republic has given her complete artistic freedom (she didn't even tell republic about folklore until the day of its release)  , there is no feud.  Republic doesn't need to constantly praise Taylor, everyone knows how successful Taylor is. Also labels don't make that much money from radioplay since only songwriters get paid for radioplay.  Their passionate and effective promotion of cruel summer on radio shows their good relationship with Taylor. 

For the Cruel Summer comments, Taylor said that lightheartedly and was mostly acknowledging how swiftie's passion made cruel summer a single.

In general, Taylor saves most of her promo for prior to and the week of  an album/song release. The promo is about ensuring initial success to give the work the best chance of long term sucess. Cruel Sumer is a four year old song that's already massively sucessful  so Taylor likely doesn't feel the need to promote it when she's prioritizing swiftie's wallets for the film+1989 tv.

I think it’s more that the song/ Lover album is about Joe….she writes about her life and has moved on to bigger and hotter things.
