I'm happy she's securing the #1 but definitely not excited for the spamming from the losers who will now call Cruel Summer inorganic forever because they released this EP the day before tracking period is over It’s okay, you can say cooper…

"Cruel Summer" spends its 10th week atop Billboard's Pop Airplay chart (as indicated in her chart history page here), her first double-digit command atop that chart! Very impressive and joins an elite group of songs that managed to do so:

Isn't it #1 on European radios? Anyways, consumption wise it will peak next year when she goes on tour A close friend of mine is working at a big radio station in Italy, and he told me "Cruel Summer" was not serviced to radio in Italy, France and Spain to name a few. Therefore it is not getting any significant airplay over there. Which makes no sense at all. Perhaps Italy, France, and Spain will get ads during Summer 2024. The song is far from over, especially in markets where she hasn't toured yet.

Taylor really swooped in at the last minute and said “tee hee, time to feed the children”

Yep, I agree with this. Knowing her and her team, I think it's likely that they do care and have been planning to push this all along (there was her insta post on July 21 and Taylor Nation's on Aug 14 heavily hinting at a video or some type of remix or special release, and then the iTunes discount most recently), it's just that different wrenches were probably put in the plan (Aldean, Oliver Anthony, etc.), or possible delays with shooting the video, and that they aren't quite sure of the best time to release the remixes and whether to align it the same week as the video, etc. I still strongly feel something is coming, definitely by mid-September, So many unhinged takes but this was the closest to the truth. I’m sorry Taylor for ever believing even for a second that you aren’t chart obsessed anymore. It was just hard to time it ❤️ Thanks! I was off by a month, but better late than never!!

I was off by a month, but better late than never!! In the UK, they have an official release schedule. So for post-album singles everybody knows the "impact week" where they release the CDs, singles, remixes, EPs, the artist goes on TV shows, etc. They should do that in the US too, it would be so much less stressful for the fans if they at least knew what week to target lol. I'm really glad Cruel Summer will (probably) go to #1. It deserves it and it's iconic for an old album track to do this. And I'm glad her label stepped in to help, that's what they should be doing for pop stars. Really they should've done this 2 months ago but it's OK now, as long as it gets the title.

Technically I get your point but let's refrain from still refering to this as an album track before some contrarian hater comes into the thread lol.
I'm glad she's getting a Lover #1 hit.

Just made my first 4 iTunes purchases in 6 years just to be safe. The last time I bought something on iTunes was reputation 2 weeks after it came out as she was refusing to release it on Spotify.

I love that she now will have a number one from every album since Red. Also, love that isn't a first single this time.

Great song and Taylor deserves her #1. I still hear this all the time and love it.

The scenario of Taylor replacing herself at #1 (again after SIO-BS) is starting to look like a real possibility

I also guess this is gonna be her signature song along with You Belong With Me, and Shake It Off?

Think Anti-Hero is also rapidly approaching signature status. "It's me. Hi. I'm the problem. It's me." is beyond iconic.

Only that one line entered the canon, not the song itself. It also was a relative nonevent at the tour compared to her classic hits and even non singles. The charts were very good to Ms. Anti Hero, but she’s just not the same kind of girl as Love Story, YBWM, SIO and BS.

It's okay to admit Anti-Hero is a huge and eventful single lol Not only that, but IMO is absolutely one of her best songs ever. The tour performance isn’t a fair metric, as it’s the most poorly designed performance of the show. It’s not meant to be a moment…it’s meant to give her an opportunity to say hi to the people who can’t see her on the sides of the stage. I do wish they had chosen a different song for that and given AH its due though. At this point, I don’t think it can be overstated how much AH has done for her. I think it’s a huge part of exactly how interstellar her career has gone, along with many other factors of course. I love midnights as a whole, probably my favorite album from her, but no other track would have led the era to the heights that AH has. It’s wild that we added two career signature songs to her discography in one year. And this is a year that followed ATW(10MV), arguably another. LS and YBWM will always be special, but they aren’t up there with these three newest additions IMO (ATW10MV, AH, CS).

Anyways… happy Cruel Summer made it to #1 on the Hot 100 this week (and looking promising for next week too.)
Happy the tweet about it would’ve still been #1 even without the inclusion of sales, for anybody that try’s to say it was an inorganic #1.
My only gripe is a music video, but I guess you can’t win them all. Is kind of weird though that one of her biggest songs won’t have one. Would be just like it Blank Space didn’t have a video.

did this ever chart at Rhythmic or it's spincrease or taking off page? If it was like 2013 it would definitely be on rhythmic, but they don't play much pop music nowadays. Even I'm Good which was a huge hit and a full on dance song (a genre that's supposed to be played on rhythmic) only got #21 according to Wikipedia.
