Lizzo's 'Cuz I Love You' Album Hits Top 5 on Billboard 200 Chart 9/5/2019 by Keith Caulfield
Lizzo’s Cuz I Love You album celebrates a new high on the Billboard 200 chart, as the set reaches the top five for the first time. It climbs 6-4 on the Sept. 7-dated chart, surpassing its previous peak (and debut position) of No. 6. The album entered the chart dated May 4 and hasn't left the top 30 since its debut.
The album’s gain comes following Lizzo’s well-received performance on the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 26 and a four-song set on NBC’s Today on Aug. 23.
Further, as the set reaches the top five in its 19th week on the chart, it completes the slowest climb to the top five in nearly two years. On the Oct. 28, 2017-dated chart, Kane Brown’s self-titled album and Post Malone’s Stoney both hit the top five for the first time, in their 45th and 44th chart weeks, respectively. Among albums by women, Cuz I Love You wraps the longest climb to the top five since way back on March 3, 2012, when Adele’s 19 hit the top five for the first time (in its 122nd week), after Adele won big at the 2012 Grammy Awards.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
Cuz I Love You rises with a 40% gain in equivalent album units, having earned 49,000 in the tracking week ending Aug. 29, according to Nielsen Music. The album sold 10,000 copies in the week ending Aug. 29 -- up 87%. The set’s SEA units jumped by 22% to 31,000, while the album’s songs generated 41.1 million on-demand audio streams for the week (up 21%).
Lizzo concurrently hits No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart with “Truth Hurts.” Her first Hot 100 leader, originally released in 2017, is a bonus song on the deluxe edition of Cuz I Love You.

With Lionel Richie's album now the title with the highest rank to drop completely off the Billboard 200 (from No. 2), I went and checked activity for largest positional drops within the chart since Gary posted the last update in June. Willie Nelson's album dropped 176 spots recently, thus that title joins the below list. I believe that's the only addition.

it's really shame that we don't get any detailed update for Taylor's Album. I guess we will never know her numbers of target and merch bundle.

^They never really say how much came from those outlets. With Richie's album, the article said: "Nearly all of that sum is album sales, powered almost entirely by sales generated from a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer tied to his summer tour." (He also had merch bundles, though they may have amounted to a small amount). "Bolstered" is another word Billboard uses for such instances.

it's really shame that we don't get any detailed update for Taylor's Album. I guess we will never know her numbers of target and merch bundle. A normal drop pure sales for albums without bundles is usually 75-80% these days. According to HDD her album has dropped -87% in pure sales second week, to 92k. So I would say bundles could've probably been 100-200k of her sales. 500k to 92k would've been a 81% drop, which is what Reputation fell second week. Ofcourse this all just random guessing.

100K is a big gap in trying to estimate how much came from the merchandise bundles- was the digital album the only one that was included?

^That's true. Though some acts have had the CD and/or vinyl included in some, as well. Madonna had that for some of the merch bundles, though now just one remains on her web store.

^By total, HITS seems to imply that it was its weekly equivalent albums, so that would be roughly of its weekly pure sales.

^By total, HITS seems to imply that it was its weekly equivalent albums, so that would be roughly of its weekly pure sales. Taylor's first week pure sales was 78.3% of SPS. 867k SPS x 40% = 346.8k 679k sales x 40% = 271.6k NYT said 375k CD. 346.8k would be 92% of physical and ohter sales being 28k. and 271.6k would be 72% and other sales being 93k. I would't be surprised If it was 346.8k considering 4 package sale and pure sales is more fan driven than ever.
