It’s a good album, but Camila Cabecky still needs to work on establishing an actual fan base and identity. New releases from Taylor, Halsey, Harry and Niall are sitting at the top of iTunes. The fact that “My Oh My” has yet to crack the Top 100 on album release day is proof that something isn’t connecting. Her team needs to stop pretending she’s some Rihanna level superstar and fix that. The thing is, there is some similarity between her and Rihanna's early career. Rihanna didn't have much of an identity outside of her Caribbean heritage and sound. Similarly, Camila leans into her Latin roots for her biggest hits. I don't think Rihanna came into her own until her third album. Her first two albums are pretty forgettable, including her big hit Pon De Replay, which she never performs. Rihanna didn't have her first headlining arena tour until her third album. Camila will have her first on her second album. I'd say she's doing pretty well for herself. Camila has a pretty solid discography this early into her career. I think she's doing a decent job of carving out an identity. She and her music tend to be very emo, romantically-driven, moody and melancholy, and musically I think she likes to be alternative (Never Be The Same, Shameless).

I like the album and it's pretty much what I expected. I hardly use Rihanna's music, so I wouldn't want her to go in that direction anyway.

She’s had incredible promo, high budget videos, and art visuals to go along with each track, And there isn’t a single hit on this album. DaBaby feature being her best bet at best.
I’m really interested to see how this is all going to pan out for her and future single/album releases. Clearly her label expected a blockbuster era for this album and it’s been anything but.

It has quite a few good moments ruined by the vocal. She sounds decent when she doesn't push too hard and belt like she has to dominate every single note.
The ones that I'll keep:
This Love Should've Said It Liar Used to This Bad Kind of Butterflies

Excellent pop CD. Thank God for the lyric book though. Queen of Invented Languages. The Gregorian chanting on Shameless. The vocal delivery and choices in Living Proof. The Japanglish of Easy (slathering it in an immense amount of reverb doesn't help, LOL). I can't think of the last time I have heard such an ugly voice sell songs so well. They should have called this album Drama or High Camp or something because home girl is out here pushing this narrative like NO ONE ELSE. I ALMOST believe her, but, look, I think Camila has proven herself to be a strong actress through her videos and performances. It's Shawn who is incapable of carrying this narrative forward. Anyway, I'm really glad I decided to support scritch-scratch voice (I actually didn't come up with that, blame AllMusic reviewer LOL). Not a bad song to be found. A-
1. Living Proof (PERFECTION.) 2. Dream Of You (PERFECTION also. It might actually tie for first place) 3. Shameless 4. Bad Kind of Butterflies 5. Cry For Me 6. Easy 7, Senorita 8. Feel It Twice 9. This Love (major demerits for daring to drop the F bomb and then...muting it? Also, Rihanna did this way better. It's not bad, but there is much better on the album and songs that feel more authentically her. This sounds like it was created by committee.) 10. Liar 11. My Oh My 12. Used To This 13. Should've Said It 14. First Man (what kind of Taylor Swift teas??)

The fact that “My Oh My” has yet to crack the Top 100 on album release day is proof that something isn’t connecting. Her team needs to stop pretending she’s some Rihanna level superstar and fix that. I like this album more than her first one. I totally agree they have poured superstar level hype and support behind someone who is looking more Halsey-ish than Taylor-ish with each passing day. Halsey is not a bad place to be but Camila not solid enough yet to back up all this hype with huge amounts of public support like what would come with being a true It Girl. I think perhaps her worldwide appeal has made the label look at her stateside situation through rose colored glasses. Camila has a pretty solid discography this early into her career. I think she's doing a decent job of carving out an identity. She and her music tend to be very emo, romantically-driven, moody and melancholy, and musically I think she likes to be alternative (Never Be The Same, Shameless). I agree that is the image she seems to be going for with this album and most of the songs released from it so far. The problem is her smashes have not been that. So far her mojo is with the heavily Latin pop tracks. Never Be The Same was a hit but that was the only track so far in the moody emo alt pop vein that pulled it off - it is was no where as big as Havana and Senorita. Not sure how she’s going to handle this issue going forward. It will be interesting to see.

I like the album, however it FEELS a bit basic after her debut which came kind of out of the blue in a good way.
Still, Find U Again > anything on this album.

Camila does have 2 of the most streamed songs by any artist ever. Both Havana and Senorita have both been streamed over 1 billion times.

I wasn’t expecting that one. It’s beautiful. This album is pretty decent to me. Should’ve Said it, Easy, and Used to This are the standouts to me, but I like Living Proof, This Love, and Feel It Twice, too. I agree that is not groundbreaking in anyway. It’s just a decent Pop album for me to occasionally play.

Y'all are trippin' so hard LOL. The way she pronounces "freckles" and "demons" ALONE sets her apart from her basic peers. I stan. Also, great performance on Ellen!

I have no clue what are considered good numbers at streaming. In today's climate, it's actually really bad for someone whose collab is still charting high/hit #1 on BB Hot 100 just a couple months ago. It didn't even top "Camila"'s first day streams, which was released nearly two years ago. It had 18M. To give examples from artists who released an album this year: Taylor did 55M, Ariana did 70M, Billie did 47M.
BUT it's also normal cause she did less promotion (thanks to her team) + none of the singles released so far clicked with the GP

She and her music tend to be very emo, romantically-driven, moody and melancholy, and musically I think she likes to be alternative (Never Be The Same, Shameless). I'd be all in for alternative Camila. Leave the Spanish influence (or try to use it sparingly) and leave this "romance" and "relationship" nonsense and just focus on her music. That's all I want for her.

What's been so messy about her release? She's had a ton of videos and promo. Along with a high profile PR romance with a hit to go along with it. I've seen her everywhere.
So what is the issue?

A quick summary; "Liar" and "Shameless" were both sent to radio while "Senorita" was huge and was still growing if I remember correctly. It was clear that they wanted "Shameless" to be the main song, but the GP and radio chose "Liar" instead. They released a music video for "Liar" shortly after (I think they had both video ready in this case so props to them). "Cry For Me" and "Easy" were released shorty after, not as singles though. She then went on SNL to perform those two and not even the single that was still rising on radio ("Liar"). "Liar" then started falling on radio and within that time span and before the AMAs "Living Proof" was released and then performed at the AMAs but has not been sent to radio. So upon album release there was no single at radio, almost half the album was out, and their best selling point was "Senorita" being a number one hit.
Yes they had a lot of video and promo spot, but there wasn't any focus at all. I can't believe this was the same team that dealt with her first album. The only good thing about this era is tacking "Senorita" on the album and that's not even guaranteed to give her any SPS figures.

And now we're sitting on the question as to whether or not Living Proof or My Oh My is the next single
Since one has all the live promo The other has all the current streaming playlisting
So it's a total wtf

This album was pleasant. Although I'm always going to side eye her for how shady and trifling her exit from 5H was, she's grown on me considerably. It just sucks they rolled everything out the way they did, I don't know who thought any of that made sense. I bet we'd be having a completely different conversation about her success had they just pushed Shameless or Liar as a sole lead (and released it around October/November as opposed to when Senorita was just beginning to peak). Liar and Living Proof should've done the same 1-2 punch damage on the charts the way Havana and Never Be The Same did. The quality in the records are there, and the formula was kind of fool-proof. They just overexposed her and mistimed the launch.
The album itself is solid. It's good. I don't necessarily feel the desire to revisit any of the songs, but I didn't feel the need to skip anything. It did feel like Dream of You was the final track and all of the others following were like bonus tracks on a deluxe edition.
If she gets another single I would push First Man for sure. There's nothing like it on the radio and it's an instant father daughter wedding song. It would be a risk for sure, but I could totally see it being one of those classic songs (All Of Me by John Legend, Perfect by Ed) if her team plays their cards right. It's also the only song I've ever heard of hers that I believed from her, emotionally.

But didn't she also release four songs before Havana actually sticked? I understand the single selection has been messy and unfocused, but on the other hand she'd had more money thrown at her than some A-lists could dream about. If they release all these songs with accompanying music videos and high profile tv performances, and still nothing clicks the the GP, then I'd say the "messy rollout" is not the only problem here.

Granted, I played this album while dealing with an axiety attack on a plane, but nothing really stands out? I gotta revisit it, but it felt very same-y and non-eventful. The highs on her debut were much better.
Next album pls.
