I’ll blame it on covid, but that was the weakest halftime show I’ve seen in years. It looked like a MTV video music awards number.

The performance was great! He had a great selection of tracks and I loved the sets and choreography.

I honestly won’t blame COVID as he’s just not that entertaining of a performer.. he’s like Bruno’s wannabe... worst halftime I’ve seen!

It wasn't particularly entertaining all throughout, but I liked his dedication. It is not easy to perform in that big stadium, remember all your cues and sing 100% live. I will say, the setlist was perfect. His catalog is insane. Excellent ear for music.

I agree that the setlist WAS perfect. His mic and the sound mixing was the problem. He was too low during some parts and the music drowned out his vocals. I thought it was because I was streaming it through the CBS Sports app but it was bad on the regular TV broadcast too.

That performance did zero for me. It brought nothing fresh or exciting to the show, and it was just a continuation of his previous performances from this era, and it’s not like those were that exciting to keep it going. This wasn’t a Super Bowl performance. I love The Weeknd, and I think it’s an amazing opportunity for him but he’s just not an exciting performer that you want for a Super Bowl. Moreover, considering his stature it makes sense for him to do it, but I just think it was underwhelming. Sns.
Also, Starboy imo wasn’t a great track to play so early, I started to lose a bit of interest then.

I didn't like the performance, BL was good though. Based on that performance, i wouldn't buy a ticket to his tour. He didn't deliver imo.

Not crazy about the show either. It wasn't bad or awful, but to me not a Super Bowl show. Yes, the last part felt of bigger scale, but still... I don't know what it is about him. He's had so many hits and great songs for a good number of years now and I've liked many of them and he's so successful, but I still don't see him as a SUPERSTAR. Is it his image? His stage persona? That it seems he's kept his personal life out of the public? I have to say other than his songs I know very little about him and I don't find him particularly charismatic on stage. Per comments I was reading last night, it seems people over 40 had no idea who he was. And that's kind of what I've felt about him. Not instantly recognizable by the general public. I guess it's more the young streaming generation the one who knows more about him?

It was fine. I've never found him to be a particularly engaging performer, but I liked his set-up more than JT's and M5's. And his setlist was great.
The audio was inexcusably bad. If I was able to actually hear anything he was singing, I probably would have enjoyed it so much more.

He should wait for Blinding Lights to die down before announcing/releasing next single. Well this somehow aged both amazingly and poorly

It wasn't exciting because we basically seen him do all that stuff throughout the 2020.

Amazing boosts for his catalogue today on Spotify. "Save Your Tears" and "Blinding Lights" are at #2 and #3 respectively with 1,4 million streams each, and "The Hills" and "Starboy" re-entered the top 10.
The biggest gainer was surprisingly "In Your Eyes", which was boosted all the way to #16. Other lovely surprises include "Die For You" re-entering at #72, not to mention "Wicked Games" and "House Of Balloons/Glass Table Girls" appearing at #182 and #184 respectively.

Proves “In Your Eyes” would have smashed if it had been released later after the whirlwind of Blinding Lights.

It just came to my mind that The Weeknd could be a good option for the next James Bond song. The Billie Eilish song will be SO old for Oct 2021 when perhaps the current movie will finally come out that they might as well get a new song. And the type of music he makes I think would fit this perfectly.

However MGM is not really in the position to spend any more money if they don't have to, especially since they've been marketing NTTD for practically two years at this point, and the studio is on the verge of being put on the market.

I'm still pissed at how poorly they handled the Starboy era. It could have been a 1989/Teenage Dream domination, but they kinda collected the streaming coins and moved on from radio after IFIC.

Tell me about it! There were so many songs screaming hit potential on the album. And unlike other streaming era giants like "Hollywood's Bleeding" and Abel's own "After Hours" (until SYT), neither "Starboy" or "I Feel It Coming" would have overshadowed following singles. A true missed opportunity.

A true missed opportunity. I read recently that "Die for You" had its video cancelled too! Which also explains why its pop radio release was cancelled. That era will never stop driving me crazy by how badly managed all the singles after "I Feel It Coming" were handled.

A dream weeknd era would’ve been: Starboy: - Starboy as the lead single (per usual) - False Alarm as a promo single and maybe a radio push to Pop - Party Monster to Urban and I Feel It Coming to Pop (at release) - Reminder to Urban/Rhythmic - Secrets to Pop - Die For You to Rhythmic/Pop - Sidewalks to Urban - Music videos for all singles MDM: - Call out my name as lead single - Try Me to Rhythmic - Hurt You to either Pop or Rhythmic

MDM had zero radio material imo. It wasn't made with that intention either.
