One of the biggest snubs in music history. Everything was on point this era. This isn’t even hyperbole. Is there anything remotely similar to compare it to? Surely, it must’ve happened before. The conversation wasn’t even “will he get nominated,” as most people were weighing the odds of a sweep in wins.

lol so nuts. "Blinding Lights" seems to be pretty easily the biggest and best song of the year.

Lambs have known the Grammys were trash, but this absolutely confirms it. He should have been one of the most nominated, not to mention easily won a few.
Does something actually have to be submitted to be considered? I thought the submissions were more or less like an fyi "hey, this exists" type of thing. No way The Weeknd wasn't on their radar.

Does something actually have to be submitted to be considered? Yes. These were his (alleged) submissions: The WeekndAfter Hours: AOTY, Pop Vocal Album Blinding Lights: ROTY, (SOTY), Pop Solo Perf In Your Eyes (Remix): Pop Duo/Group Perf Over Now: Pop Duo/Group Perf Smile: Melodic Rap Perf I'm very much confused, like I thought AOTY, SOTY and ROTY were locks for Abel. I'm not mad about him not being in AOTY but Blinding Lights deserved.

Blinding Lights is a bigger omission than the album itself.
Pop Solo at the very least should have been a no brainer.

It’s so confusing to me, he honestly delivered the best album and single of the year and..... nothing? Like Blinding Lights is still in the top 10 on every chart. Idk what the Granny’s do but like.... what dummies.

When "Yummy" gets a nom but "Blinding Lights" doesn't you KNOW there's something wrong. You could remove Blinding Lights from the equation and you still know somethin is wrong But BL is just icing on the cake that makes it infinitely worse lol

I mean, whoever thought a show historically run by rich white men wasn’t rigged and plagued by politics needs a reality check... but I’m glad he’s speaking his truth.

Better luck next time I'm joking! Someone on the committee is so f**king petty. Haven't they always had something against performers performing at the Superbowl? I remember one year there was an issue with another artist who performed at the Superbowl. I don't think the artist was a headliner though.

I‘m in tears right now, that was so powerful. Best song on the album, no doubts.

Honestly...this is a disappointment.
The Grammys are supposed to be the biggest reward for artists each year.
Abel did everything right and still fell short in their eyes...zero nominations??
It feels personal.

It feels personal. I agree. I don’t usually care too much about who is nominated or not for these types of things but this is outrageous! Lol He has every right to be upset and so do his fans. He was 100% robbed.

Didn’t y’all cancel her? 🧐 Also, per this Billboard article, his team submitted the album for Best Progressive R&B Album (formerly Best Urban Contemporary Album) and the committee moved it to Best Pop Vocal Album during the vetting process. That doesn’t explain him getting shut out of the general 4 but, considering how stacked that category is, the shut-out there isn’t as surprising. Had they left it in R&B, he likely would’ve gotten the nom and his third win in that category as AH is the most commercially successful compared to the other 5 nominated by far. www.billboard.com/articles/news/awards/9489869/recording-academy-harvey-mason-jr-responds-the-weeknd-the-grammys-tweet/

I believe After Hours was better-received than Changes. That aside, I think people are more surprised about "Blinding Lights" being shut out than After Hours was - not that it means the album getting shut out wasn't surprising either.

It’s all speculative but I think Bieber is the bigger name in the Pop community and, since the genre categories are supposedly voted on by a committee of industry peers, it still doesn’t surprise me as much, especially since this would be Abel’s first time competing in that field.

In order to show support to The Weeknd, Spotify has added "Blinding Lights" back to their Today's Top Hits playlist at #5 - between "Monster" and "Therefore I Am".

Otherwise people could submit anywhere they want just to get noms/wins. I wish the Oscars had something like this to prevent category fraud. The Weeknd was obviously snubbed, but we should also keep in mind the Grammys are not voted on by fans or via sales. What sets them apart is other artists vote for the nominees and winners. It shouldn't be about popularity (though it obviously sometimes is) as there are plenty of other music awards for that.

Tbh After Hours belongs in the Pop category. This is the same forum where people were complaining about "Blinding Lights" topping the R&B charts for months. I still think the song is the big snub here, rather than the album (although considering the stuff that made it in, there was plenty of room for the album to be nominated).

Heartless now hits its one year anniversary (since yesterday) and blinding lights is tomorrow. Can’t believe what an amazing year this was for abel. i think this is even bigger than starboy and considering what that album’s content was and what it was implying, this seems so ironic that he got even bigger
