That said, for reasons unbeknownst to me Lorrie's My Heart album is not available on any streaming service and overall is quite hard to track down. |

Jamming to "The Things That We Do" right now, and it is really catchy!! Also Lorrie and Jo Dee sound so amazing together :) A couple of very charismatic vocalists, for sure. I just wish Jo Dee was a true duet partner rather than just a prominent background vocalist.

I also didn't comment on most of the reveals yesterday! "Here I Go Again" is really catchy! I had forgotten how this one goes, because it's not available anywhere but YouTube so it wasn't on my playlist so I haven't been listening to it on repeat since I submitted my list like I have been for most other songs in this list. But revisiting now I really like it, and feel like it should have been a bigger hit for her! It probably just came too far after her commercial peak, unfortunately :( Plus didn't she have a covers album right before this? Probably torpedoed her own radio momentum... "Standing Tall" is so underrated!!! This song is 100% a classic Lorrie song in my mind. I have even heard this one on the radio a few times throughout my life, which is shocking because normally all you'd hear are "Five Minutes" and "Except For Monday". It should have been a top 20 hit at radio, at minimum. Her vocal here is superb, and the empowering lyrics in the hook are simply superb! "Tonight, I'm finally leaving, and I'm leaving standing tall"  Love everything about this one! OMG not "Dear Me" too!!!!! Such painful losses tonight!! This is one of Lorrie's most iconic ballads. Another one that I have surprisingly heard on the radio occasionally. Those lyrics of self-reflection and regret after walking away from a relationship are so mournful, and Lorrie's vocal delivers them perfectly. This song also has a fantastic crescendo to it considering how otherwise dated it is. I've said my piece about "One Of Those Nights Tonight", and I am still gutted that this one barely missed the top 20. "By My Side" is good, but feels a tad forgettable compared to most of her other top 20 hits? Also side note: Jon Randall sounds very similar to Vince Gill... Lol I thought it was Vince until I double checked. I do enjoy this one, but it has NO business being ahead of "One Of Those Nights Tonight"!!!! |

"Maybe Not Tonight" is by far her best duet with Sammy. The lyrical hook is very strong (the idea of wanting to leave, but maybe not tonight is something that I imagine more people can relate to than would like to admit), and is also pretty unique. Plus the exchange of vocals really sounds nice in this song. Fitting #20 finisher, imo.

“You’d Think He’d Know Me Better” was released in 1998 as the fifth and final single from Lorrie’s sixth studio album Shakin’ Things Up. The song was written and originally released by Bobbie Cryner who had a minor hit with it herself in early 1996. While this might not have started out on the right note it did a quick turnaround thanks a top 15 ranking from someguy who was followed by Kanenrá:ke . It did momentarily stepped outside of the top 20 but regained its footing as @xfer placed this just outside of his top 5. Every remaining placement came somewhere within or near the top 20 and was bumped all the way into the top 15 with a late top 10 ranking from toomuchboy . Just when it looked like things were settled ClevelandRox comes in with not just a bottom 5 but a last place ranking…ouch! |

Oh, I love this one. I only discovered this several years ago... I actually have a personal connection to this song because my parents divorced about a year or so after I'd first heard this. Both of my parents had done things to make the marriage worse, but I played this song to my mom right in the middle of the worst of it as a sort of "advice" without actually saying anything. It didn't change anything, but I always thought the message of this one was so powerful about how we're so often stuck in our own thoughts that we don't even communicate or understand how other people are thinking so many things themselves they never say out loud, too.
So, yeah, I'll always associate this song with my parents' breakup.

"You'd Think He'd Know Me Better" is such a deep song. The lyrics about two lovers who are no longer on the same page are so unique and picturesque, and they are also quite cutting in their directness and implications. "And can he tell what mood I'm in? The way I've got my back to him, I don't feel like making love" is just one example. It's very ahead-of-its-time in that regard. But then once you've gotten plenty of her perspective, you get an emotional dose of HIS perspective, as he tells her she's forgotten how to love, and then exclaims "You don't talk to me enough" with tears in his eyes as he's driving away...
Meanwhile Lorries vocal is raw and powerful here. She really puts the emotions in this song on full blast. The more I have been listening to her, I feel like she was in her vocal prime around the Shakin' Things Up album era.

“A Picture of Me (Without You)” was released as the second single to Lorrie’s sophomore album Something in Red and is the first loss from that album in the rankdown. Originally a top five hit for George Jones in 1972, Lorrie’s version went on to become her sixth consecutive top ten hit in the summer of 1991. As the namesake of Lorrie’s artist rankdown it pains me to have to make this reveal now as I had hopes that it would at least be a top 15 contender. It did remain there early on thanks to a top 10 from myself and a lone top 5 from Kanenrá:ke and even briefly made its way into the top ten. It was never quite able to recover from George Strait Junkie ’s bottom 10 ranking, however, and the remaining placements were a bit muddled overall. taylor is terrified did end up giving this one a lifeline with a top 15 placement who was joined there by ClevelandRox in the finale. |

“Heart Over Mind” was released as the third and final single to Lorrie’s fourth studio album War Paint. This ended up greatly exceeding my expectations as I wouldn’t have predicted that this would’ve been as well received as it was. This had a steady climb as it made its way into the top 20 as everyone but three put this in their top 30. This continued to gain support along the way picking up three top 15’s and two top 10’s from .indulgecountry and @xfer . |

This is a great song, but tbh it has always been one of her more boring huge hits to me. I have had her first Greatest Hits album for my entire life, and this is probably my least favorite song on it. Still a fantastic song, but I was hoping it might bow out before the top 10. Missing the top 15 is a bit of a shock though, because it's still one of her more iconic hits!

Why don't I remember "Heart Over Mind" from when I made my list??! This song is really catchy!! That instrumental arrangement is particularly awesome, and her vocals are awesome too. Plus I love that little unexpected key change heading into each chorus. Clearly my #27 rank is an indicator of how strong this list is, because listening to this song in isolation it feels like it should have been higher than that. Nice surprise seeing this in the top 20!

“’Til a Tear Becomes a Rose” was posthumously released in the summer of 1990 as a duet with Keith Whitely from his Greatest Hits album. It peaked in the top 15 on the country singles charts and would go on to win the Vocal Event to the Year at the CMA Awards. This also exceeded my expectations and I certainly wouldn’t have guessed that it would’ve been the highest ranking duet of the rankodwn. Except for the early and lonely bottom five from someguy , everyone but four participants put this in their top 20 including three top 15’s and one top 10 from George Strait Junkie . |

Honestly this is kind of how I feel about the song overall...only when I listen to it am I reminded how catchy of a number it is but yet I always seem to forget how it goes after that. I'm not quite sure why this song never caught on or why the War Paint era was so underwhelming for her. I'm not too upset to see "A Picture of Me" leave where it did, although I do wish it had been able to hold on for at least the Top 15. My Top 15 or so are all songs that I love, and I hope what's left of my Top 5 especially makes it there.
