Aside from the song's quality, Lana and Miley don't really have big fanbases. Neither has been able to get a top 40 hit in a while. Yeah. Lana's peak was in 2012/13 and Miley's in 2013. Ariana is the only one huge here.

Miley had a top ten hit, albeit short lived, in 2017, but agree with the "big fanbase" point.

How was Alicia Keys' "Diary" a hit? Don't remember that song coming out at all. Did it even have a video?

How was Alicia Keys' "Diary" a hit? Don't remember that song coming out at all. Did it even have a video? Were you listening to R&B/Adult R&B radio in 2004? It peaked at #2 on the former format for 6 weeks behind “Lean Back” and “Goodies”. Usher and Alicia Keys completely monopolized Urban radio that year. This was a time when the power of R&B/Adult-R&B radio alone could score you a top ten hit.

“Where My Girls At” had such a fantastic chart run.
It peaked at #4 on the Hot 100 but spent 20 weeks inside the top 10 and 30 weeks inside the top 20. Overall, it spent 39 weeks on the chart, more than several number one hits of 1999.
What helped its longevity is that it peaked on Pop radio well after it peaked on both R&B and Rhythmic radio.
It finished at #11 on the Y/E charts.

I didn't think that Panini would flop but I did not think it would make the top 10 at all, let alone possibly top 3 (or even higher in future weeks!?). Go Lil Nas X! Whether or not you like his music you can't deny he and his team have been great at marketing himself and his music.

Panini could very well be #3 or #5/6 because they are so close. Top ten anyway which is great accomplishment.

Great to see Panini and Someone You Loved potentially going top 5 this week. The somewhat surprising movements are probably a combination of Post Malone fallout and all the songs above the rising ones to be older songs already on their way out

It's crazy how TLC rejected it for "FanMail". They possibly could've had a 3rd #1 single after "No Scrubs" and "Unpretty".

Toni Braxton’s “You’re Makin’ Me High”. Babyface said he wrote that song in 1994, during the making of “CrazySexyCool”; the hook and one verse was complete but he didn’t have time to finish it so he said he’ll keep it in the vault for their next album. Apparently L.A Reid played it to Braxton and she wanted it. She even contacted TLC to ask if she could have it and they said yes. TLC would potentially have had 3 #1’s from that album/era. Also, Braxton said that she wanted to keep the song in the style of TLC so that’s why they hired Foxy Brown for the remix (presumably that would have been Left Eye rapping). Also, Missy Elliot originally wrote Tweet’s “Oops, Oh My” for TLC too for the fourth album “3D”. However production was slow for the album so she gave it to Tweet instead who re-wrote some parts. They were Rihanna before Rihanna. All these missed hits!

I don't think it would've been as big with TLC instead of Britney, but I still think it would be a big hit for them.
