Were you listening to R&B/Adult R&B radio in 2004?

It peaked at #2 on the former format for 6 weeks behind “Lean Back” and “Goodies”.

Usher and Alicia Keys completely monopolized Urban radio that year.

This was a time when the power of R&B/Adult-R&B radio alone could score you a top ten hit.

It finished at #11 on the Y/E charts.

I didn't think that Panini would flop but I did not think it would make the top 10 at all, let alone possibly top 3 (or even higher in future weeks!?). Go Lil Nas X! Whether or not you like his music you can't deny he and his team have been great at marketing himself and his music.

Yes!! For a 1999 single, it's longevity was underrated.

It finished #11 on the year end chart but just left the top 10 on the chart if I remember correctly.

It's crazy how TLC rejected it for "FanMail". They possibly could've had a 3rd #1 single after "No Scrubs" and "Unpretty".

Toni Braxton’s “You’re Makin’ Me High”.

Babyface said he wrote that song in 1994, during the making of “CrazySexyCool”; the hook and one verse was complete but he didn’t have time to finish it so he said he’ll keep it in the vault for their next album. Apparently L.A Reid played it to Braxton and she wanted it. She even contacted TLC to ask if she could have it and they said yes.

TLC would potentially have had 3 #1’s from that album/era.

Also, Braxton said that she wanted to keep the song in the style of TLC so that’s why they hired Foxy Brown for the remix (presumably that would have been Left Eye rapping).

Also, Missy Elliot originally wrote Tweet’s “Oops, Oh My” for TLC too for the fourth album “3D”. However production was slow for the album so she gave it to Tweet instead who re-wrote some parts.

They were Rihanna before Rihanna. All these missed hits!

Yup, and they also rejected Britney Spears "Baby One More Time" for Fanmail. I don't think it would've been as big with TLC instead of Britney, but I still think it would be a big hit for them.
