Cardigan is fighting for its life rn I hope it does the same thing Yummy and Stuck with U did so it can have a shot at sneaking in rather than pull something along the lines of THE SCOTTS and What a Man Gotta Do THE SCOTTS is already locked though? it is, i was referring to how quickly it fell not its chances at the year end list

What does "cardigan" need to have even the slightest shot at making the Year-End?
It's looking more and more unlikely, I know, but I imagine if it manages to last the full 20 weeks, it might have some chance.

It needs to stay on the charts for the rest of the year and have 2020's year end list be a 53 week year for it to even have a shot at this point.

It would be funny if RITMO ends up at #54, the exact same position the 1995 song "Rhythm Of The Night" by Corona was.

Can we all agree that the original version of I Hope is much more better than the Charlie Puth version of it? I heard Puth’s version on the radio many times, and it’s TERRIBLE. I Hope has decent lyrics but its sounds so bad. This years pop songs have been so lukewarm to me, but I Hope is definitive worst list material cause it sounds so badddd. ESPCIALLY on the radio. I cant be the only one with this take right? Once i had to drive my cousin to college and I heard it about 10 times during the trip, instant station changer.

^^ I Hope doesn't work at all as a duet where they're both saying the same thing.

Idk, the mixing and production on the song is pretty bad, but I don’t have too many problems with the actual instrumentation or melody. I’d like to hear the song live, when you can’t overcompress the vocals and guitars or drown the snap beats in reverb. Also, Charlie Puth does not fit on the song whatsoever, and his voice clashes with the sound so much that I genuinely never want to hear his version again. Too bad the radio seems to think we only want to hear the song if he’s on it.

It seems some of us have different perspectives about this year, I thought this was one of the best years for music. Definitely didn’t think it was mediocre or even bad.

Please stop saying The Box is locked for the year-end #1 spot. This time last year, everyone was sure that Without Me or Sunflower would be the number one song of the year. Let's wait a few months and see how the Box has fared. Whew, this comment aged pretty well actually 🤣

More like the craziest year for music and the Hot 100. It definitely was the craziest and messiest year for the Hot 100 but it still had plenty of great music especially the top 10.

Should we expect to see Stuck with U and Rain on Me on Positions?

Should we expect to see Stuck with U and Rain on Me on Positions? Definitely not "Rain On Me" (since it's a "Chromatica" song), but "Stuck With U" could appear as a bonus track - especially since it suits the horny quarantine vibes the rumours suggest. It is unlikely though, given that Ariana can carry streams well enough with a new project.

Speaking of Ari, it seems with the arrival of her new album coming soon it can kick cardigan and FRANCHISE off the charts with neither of them making the YE list.

And this may be taking it too far but I think it's the best year for hit music out of any year from the 21st century, even 2015.

I like 2012 better, more differend kinds of music and less bad stuff. But compared to the last couple of years, 2020 is quite good

I wouldn't be 100% surprised to see Rain On Me as a bonus track because a lot of times artists will put their collaborations on both albums. She's done it before with Bang Bang & it is kind of "the 2020 Ariana Grande hit" and at least in my opinion she carried that song more than Gaga did. Of course the album might go off in an entirely different direction where it wouldn't make sense

Has there been a weaker number 1 in the streaming era than Mood? Or even this century? It's not number 1 in any category.

It seems some of us have different perspectives about this year, I thought this was one of the best years for music. Definitely didn’t think it was mediocre or even bad. I feel like the chart year this year was OK but I have a deep seeded loathing for this year because of how much better it could have been. Like my #10 cutoff for the best list looks like it's gonna land at Supalonely which is very good, higher than last two years for sure. But if I were to do a top 10 list of songs that should have been a hit but weren't it's just goddamn tragic.
Similarly I feel like Murphy's Law was in full effect for the bad songs, like not only are there a lot of bad songs this year but so many were so avoidable! It's like every single bad song that has any remote possibility of success becomes a hit. Even some that don't have any remote possibility of success like what the actual fuck is Ily by Surf Mesa doing in the top 40. The only bright spot exception to all of this is how hard we faded 6ix9ine's comeback.
So yeah really can't wait to put this year in the past.

I agree with you, there are some that I really love that became hits like Blinding Lights, Mood and Don't Start Now but then there some songs that I hated that became hits like Savage Love, WAP and Before You Go and honestly, I'm not ashamed to say that I enjoyed some of the hits that are considered the worst like ily, Roxanne, hot girl bummer, Sunday Best, etc. Definitely some bad but I enjoyed this year for the most part.
