It felt like Memories was off the charts for a while now but it’s been off for a few weeks and I doubt that The Bones will finish the year in the top 10.

Am I the only person who feels that it's wrong that the remix for WHAT'S POPPIN' is better than the original? I feel like the original is better and more memorable than the remix.

^I still dislike the remix, but it's more tolerable. I find the original really annoying.

I'd probably say 2012, in my personal opinion. The top 5 (even top 6) songs of that year were among my favourites of that year, and possibly the decade. All 10/10's, for me. Though I know they got their fair share of hate, for varying reasons. I can't really understand what there is to hate about "Lights", though. This top 5 is also quite good, even if "The Box" is only a 7/10, for me. On the other hand, I consider "Memories" to be, at best, a 3/10, so I'd be really glad for it to get kicked out of the top 5. I echo that if I had to extend it to top five, 2012 is easily the best. I’ve seen many on this board propping 2012, and for me, some of the reasons are: - The alternative takeover giving pop music a new crossover hit from indie music every month instead of the usual one to two per year - these tend to age well compared to dance pop songs - The top three songs being from completely unheard acts at the time - Taylor Swift releasing a new album - The viral meme of Psy’s Gangnam Style exploding out of nowhere - Most pop artists making their last best hits (ex: Kelly Clarkson, Kesha, Flo Rida, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, etc) - My #1 song of the decade is from this year (Some Nights) Every year has its high points, but there were so many of them during 2012. I don’t think any year has come close to 2012 after 2016. If BL and Circles are the top 2 of this year, it probably beats out 2012’s top 2, but as a whole this year has been very incoherent. Two positives about this year is all the random TikTok hits and the fast #1 turnover. I agree with pretty much everything you said, especially the bolded part. A lot less of this year's hits are memorable to me, albeit I will admit it was a bit better than 2019. There are probably close to a dozen songs likely to make 2020 year-end that I would consider better than 95% of the 2019 year-end list. I really am hoping "The Box" is close to dropping out, so that the two songs you mentioned can be the year-end top 2. On a somewhat unrelated note, the top 2 of 2012 are probably the ones I love slightly less than the others, but all 5 are still in my top 10 songs of that year. It does seem very likely "Circles" will surpass 52 weeks, as its chart run so far does not suggest it would fall from #16 to out of the top 25 before late September. I predict it will end up spending around 55-58 weeks. Clearly, "The Box" definitely needs to drop out before "Circles" for the latter to have any realistic chance at passing it. I like how close the race is, it makes for very fascinating chart-watching! :) This is definitely the most interesting the charts have been in some time, as all three songs are year-defining, each in their own merit. They might even end up decade-defining, too, but only time will tell.

I just wanna say how nice it is to find someone else who appreciates Payphone. As someone who can barely tolerate anything Maroon 5 has done since then (maaaaaybe What Lovers Do on a good day), I think Payphone is one of the best pop songs of the decade and my SOTY 2012

With ROCKSTAR being unstoppable at number one and Blinding Lights' longevity, I think the new year-end Top 5 might be: 1. Blinding Lights 2. The Box 3. Circle 4. Don’t Start Now 5. ROCKSTAR When was the last time a top 5 was this good? For me, I think the last time the Top 5 had no bad songs, the closest was probably 2004: 1. Yeah! 2. Burn 3. If I Ain't Got You 4. This Love 5. The Way You Move

I guess I'll be the one who says this. Despite 2012 being a great year for music, the top 5 is very pedestrian, the only great songs are Somebody That I Used to Know and Lights, We Are Young is okay and Call Me Maybe and Payphone are not good. I don't see what other people see in Call Me Maybe, with how cheesy the lyrics are, you would Carly Rae Jepsen is 16 instead of 26. As for Payphone, it's a generic Maroon 5 song, nothing special about it.

^yeah. It'd odd in a lot of the best years like 2017, 2019, 2012, 2003, the top songs send to be weaker compared to the rest of the year. As I said, only 2004 managed to have a great Top 5 while being awesome even if the Top 5 wasn't there.

I don’t think people like Call Me Maybe, so much as they like Carly Rae Jepsen (and Josh Ramsay for people who are cool), and that song was probably 99% of people’s introduction to her. I doubt anyone would tell you it’s her best work (certainly isn’t Josh’s best)

The worst song was Something Just Like This, which I’d call a 5/10, and all the other songs were 7-9’s. 2019 was also pretty strong, with Without Me being the only one that I wouldn’t give an 8 or higher to

My favorite top 10 is either 2017's or 11's. 2011's worst song in there was ET which was a 6/10 IMO and 2017's worst something just like this, which is a 5. 2019 is also a runner up for me since most songs are above 8 besides without me.

I'm curious: what do y'all think is the worst year-end Top 5?
2016 is an easy pick but I wonder what are other terrible Top 5's

I really feel like The Weeknd has #1 in the bag, he's coming up on Roddy fast and he still has quite a few more weeks in the Top 10. I think Post will end at #3.

Just realized that its possible for Pop Smoke to have 4 songs on the 2020 year end list.
Dior - Already locked
Mood Swings - Gaining fast, very likely but to early to tell
For The Night - Stabile in the top 20, looks likely
The Woo - If it stays in the top 40 it should be good

Happy sucks. Dark Horse is worthless. All of Me is boring. Fancy is, well, Iggy Azalea. And then Counting Stars is actually really good.

1986 - Kinda lousy across the board
1991 - Two total atrocities but two decently remembered songs 1998 - Too Close, Truly Madly Deeply, & How Do I Live all off of year-long chart runs. It becomes clear why Billboard realized the formula needed to change. 1983 - So overpoweredly good that it gives all the other years an inferiority complex

Stressed Out does not redeem 2016's Top 5. It's an okay song but it doesn't hold up as well, especially in comparison to other twenty one pilots songs like Tear in My Heart and Lane Boy (it's at least better than Heathens though) I'd also include 1989 as being pretty lousy.

BONES TOP 10! Love it actually passing back Say So.
Still a little bit concerned for Bluebird just because the radio's abandoning it so hard. If it gets both its last two weeks it'll be fine at 180000 but if it only lasts one more then we have problems. Hopefully the streaming holds up.

Based on my calculations, both The Bones and I Hope are going to make the year-end Top 20 despite never hitting the Top 10 (Falling could've joined them but it'll get edged out by Watermelon Sugar and Roses)

2010, Need You Now is the only good song in the top 5. Tik Tok and California Gurls are both pop classics, though. But otherwise, I'd say 2018. (2005 and 2003 were close but both had an amazing song at the #4 spot) Not a fan of either song, Tik Tok has always been meh to me and I feel California Gurls is the weakest song to become a hit off of Teenage Dream besides ET.
