What annoys me about this whole discussion is how so many people think the chart should be less accurate just so they can be happy. This really is 2019 America, where facts are inconvenient. So much truth in one post!

That's why most Holiday songs probably don't chart in the Gospel and Christian genre charts. I wish music listeners on the whole could stream Christian songs, so that it can enter Hot 100 just like the Holiday songs.

drop TWYW and promote Enemies instead! The next Post single will be a brand new song because that's how he moves. This is what his manager posted a few weeks ago, so expect something new soon, similar to Wow last year.

I don't know if anyone is tracking the number of Christmas songs. I am looking to see what is the trend, but will have to wait maybe 2 more weeks for the peak Christmas week.
Songs in Top 10 Songs in #11-#50 Songs in #51-#100
2019 (*so far) 3 9 2 2018 (peak week) 4 17 2 2017 (peak week) 1 5 0

I thought they should at least remove recurrent rule during this period of time, but last year they kept You Say charting, so maybe not that big deal.

Post needs to promote Take What You Want asap, it's getting dangerously close to dropping off the charts I don't see it popping off, Circles is still gaining and the next best bet for a hit single would be Enemies. I can see it being a huge pop hit. Enemies was already released as a single to both Rhythmic and Urban and has already peaked at both formats, including a nice #1 peak on Rhythmic. They're not going to push it to pop now. Take What You Want has also been pushed to both Pop and Active Rock radio and has peaked at both formats. Surprisingly, it did better at Active than it did on Pop, although not by much.

So I guess Spotify just decided not to update today. The same way that Billboard hasn't updated their Hot 100 playlist in more than 2 weeks.

The internet will collapse in Y2K, the world will end in 2012, and Adele and Rihanna will release new music in 2020. Facts.

So I guess Spotify just decided not to update today. This shit is why the Billboard streams week can’t align with the airplay week.

Imagine an Adele vs Rihanna for the #1 spot. Each era (mainly Adele’s eras because Rihanna had eras like every year until 2016) they both always end up releasing like 2-3 months apart from each other. For example, Hello was released October 2015 and Work was released January 2016. Imagine if they released around the same time this time and how much of a mess the competition would be for #1

Are you sure though that Billboard needs to wait for these Spotify updates to update their weekly charts? They're tracking numbers such as Apple Music and Slacker that we can't see, so I'm almost certain that they don't need us to see the Spotify numbers for them to update.

Yeah they track the individual streams of users unless you check the box to opt out. Basically they only use the full totals to get data from the people who check the "don't send data to Nielsen" box. Granted they may have another method of tracking streams, I wouldn't put it past them.

See, Billboard has a formula where they separate streams that are done based off of a paid subscription and streams that are ad-supported (paid streams get more weight than ad streams). I don’t see how they would do that if they didn’t track individual streams.

What annoys me about this whole discussion is how so many people think the chart should be less accurate just so they can be happy. This really is 2019 America, where facts are inconvenient. Y'all keep trying to basically deduce anyone who disagrees with letting Holiday songs continue charting the way they currently are to 'just wanting the chart to be less accurate'. It's incredibly one-dimensional and just dismissive overall. I personally understand the points made, but there's also other points. The issue is, the fact Holiday music will be pushing dozens of current hits and songs still into their peak as recurrent early on in their run as current rules exist. By 'keeping the chart accurate' the way it currently is, ironically, makes it far more inaccurate come January when various hits that should still be charting are no longer charting. The Holiday chokehold is much stronger every year, to the point within a few years, 20+ and 30+ Holiday songs should eventually began to chart. That would push out current songs as high as top 20, into no longer charting. A hit like Truth Hurts/Bad Guy going from months in top 10, to top 20 right around Q4, then off the chart and never re-charting within 1 month isn't accurate. A song just reaching top 20, then being pushed off the chart and not returning at the height of its run would also ofcourse not be accurate of its popularity. I don't really see how its 'wanting the charts to be less accurate' by calling that out. Also there's just things like the consequence in the future no big artist would want to release Q4, and thus the chart would deter artists from releasing new music rather than to encourage (in Q4), which is not what a chart is supposed to do. Also the point that Hot 100 is a barometer for current music -- people don't need to see Jingle Bells Rock chart at an arbitrary position 75 years later to have an understanding that its an enduring Holiday hit. People do need to see where a new Ariana/Post/Billie/a new artist's single is to have an understanding of how big it is & where their career status currently is. And having the position/chart run come off worse than it would be under normal (non Holiday) circumstances is ofcourse unfavorable.... but that's more personal opinion.

But wouldn't it make sense to show holiday tracks so that 1. Labels pushing holiday songs can see their popularity and 2. Labels pushing new artists to know what to do during the holiday season, especially since streaming has allowed holiday music to gain much more traction and definitely stops people from listening to regular music. I figure it would especially help out artists who do well on AC stations, since they would know if it was a good idea to push their track to radio with all the other holiday songs going on. also all your arguments are great arguments for just getting rid of recurrent rules or the other idea of removing recurrent rules during holiday season

Not in a manner similar to new current hits. They are not buying radio deals, promotional performances, and doing interviews for Jingle Bells Rock and Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. AIWFCIY is tied to an anniversary with an album re-release, so ofcourse in that case its an exception of being pushed actively. And Holiday classics only began charting in 2012... labels were well aware of their popularity prior to that year and didn't need Billboard. The public also, was aware Jingle Bells Rock was a huge Holiday classic before 2012, and we didn't need the Hot 100 to suddenly help us verify that.

I am very happy with the christmas music knocking songs off the chart that overstayed their welcome. Sucker, Talk, I Don't Care, etc, just loved to hang around forever and not die but here we have the christmas kings and queen returning for 3 weeks at a time to knock off these old ass tunes that should've been gone a long time ago.

Personally, I'm just eager for all these Christmas hits to fall off and for new, never-before-heard music to begin to chart. It's the start of a new decade soon, with loads of mainstream juggernauts prepping to show out for the year 2020. I'm also excited to see what new breakthrough acts we get in the new year. I feel like it'll be a wild year (and decade).
