#28 Kitten - Memphis
Chosen By: BlurryKyle Genre: Power Pop Year: 2019
Points: 434 SD: 13.0779713 (5TH HIGHEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This is the most I've ever not cared for a Kitten song. It's still crazy to think that I'm the lowest ranker, at any rate. shazam: very nice power pop, but i prefer Cut It Out from Kitten

Chosen By: BlurryKyle Genre: Power Pop Year: 2019

Thoughts from the Hosts Red: I should have swapped this with "Yam Yam". shazam: pretty fun, but not much else made me want to put this any higher :/

#25 Wilco - I Am Trying to Break Your Heart
Chosen By: peacebone Genre: Indie Rock Year: 2002
Points: 453 SD: 11.08409414
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Wouldn't be a Pulse rankdown without Wilco having both tankers and supporters. shazam: Wilco are definitely a band i enjoy, but they really only hit hard on a few tracks for me. i always dug the experimentation on this one, though

#24 Spencer Davis Group - Keep on Running
Chosen By: @bobpatience Genre: British Rhythm and Blues Year: 1965
Points: 461 SD: 10.81885479
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Not the best Spencer Davis Group song I can think of, but it has its charms, to be sure. shazam: honestly this would be a little higher for me now that i hit some random 60s phase

#23 Matt Mays & El Torpedo - Cocaine Cowgirl
Chosen By: wheatsquares33 Genre: Southern Rock Year: 2005
Points: 462 SD: 10.80277742
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This was kind of *too* on the nose, if that makes sense. Certainly not bad, though. shazam: this ruled, if you know me you know epic noodley country rock always wins me over, and the ending solo pushed this right up my list

I was wondering who submitted this. I thought it would've been lyhom before the rankdown began, tbh, since it gets a lot of recurrent play here in Canada. It's a pretty good song, but I liked this a lot more when it came out 10-15 years ago.

Thoughts from the Hosts Red: I can't believe this song isn't in the top 20. It's not "Cuts You Up", or, hell, your average Bauhaus song, but I dug it. shazam: this is my least favorite thing i've heard from Murphy so far. while this isn't bad by any means, something like Dark Entries, Cuts You Up, or Bela would've shot into my top 10

"All Night Long" was one of the best first listens I've heard in a while, surprised to see it out this early

30: Club Country - Had never even heard of this group before this rankdown + 80s underground rankdown, but this is some pretty good new wave/synthpop. Appreciate how freaky the vocals on this track are, think I prefer Fire to Ice though.
29: Yam Yam - Legitimately remembered nothing about this song, listening to it now I can kinda see why. It's smooth and atmospheric enough, easy on the ears, but completely indistinct.
28: Memphis - I quite like this song, took it like, somewhere in my top 50 on the personal chart in 2019. But idk, it doesn't really feel like something I'm going to remember a few years on, I Did It is way better.
27: I Dare You - Another really recent one, but I actually took this top 20 on my personal chart. I don't know, I just really like this one, the bass riffs are super good, has great energy, very nice vocals. Not sure I'd be able to pick The Regrettes out of a lineup, but this is a good song.
26: Heart It Races - Ah I forgot about this song. I remember hearing it a lot back in high school on uhh Sonic Tap I think it was called? Whatever the radio on Direct TV used to be called. I'm kinda surprised I ranked this as low as I did, I do like this song a lot, guess the competition was just strong. (also, hey, had no idea this song was all the way back from 2007?? Thought for sure it was like an early 2010s thing, but guess that's just from my exposure to it)
25: I Am Trying to Break Your Heart - I don't know, don't think Wilco has ever really clicked with me (though I did like both the charting singles off their new album). This is fine, not something I want to come back to.
24: Keep On Running - That bass groove is tight. Pretty nice little song.
23: Cocaine Cowgirl - Not much to say about my own pick, I just like this song a lot. Not even sure where I first heard this, probably on Pandora back in high school, but I've never even listened to a full Matt Mays album. This song's stuck with me through the years though
22: Using You - Relistening to this now, may have overranked a little. Still a fun quirky pop rock song, sounds like it could've been a forgotten alt hit of the late 90s.
21: All Night Long - Can always dig some Peter Murphy. Really like the tone of the synths on this one.

#30. The Associates - Club Country I love that fact that even as an 80's freak I can totally discover new bands and songs on these tournaments. I heard of the band but never heard any songs from them. This was a perfect one for introduction. Oh yeah and Martha without her Muffins is in there too. Download? Check for archives.
#29. No Vacation - Yam Yam Female Indiepop with a little Dream vibe to it. very soothing.
#28. Kitten - Memphis You know I was gonna put Kitten in the top 10. Been charting this band for ages and now I'm even charting their bass player Blu De Tiger.
#27. The Regrettes - I Dare You This was pretty cool. Didn't gel as easy with it as I did with Kitten's jam.
#26. Dr. Dog - Heart It Races This did nothing to make my heart race.
#25. Wilco - I Am Trying to Break Your Heart two songs by two totally different submitters yet I ended up charting both songs next to each other. The vocals here sounded really lazy. That is his style but not mine.
#24. Spencer Davis Group - Keep on Running This is a great classic. Also if you watch the MV you see Steve Winwood on vocals.
#23. Matt Mays & El Torpedo - Cocaine Cowgirl Now this sounded more like Southern Rock. I like this one. They struck me as a Hair Metal band with a Southern Rock vibe. That's always a good thing.
#22. Mars Argo - Using You I liked this one. It just missed my top 10 list and sounded Poppy enough , but still cool 90's vibe. . BTW Mars Argo is 1st version of Poppy, and there is that Titanic F U C K who is sort of a scum bag.
#21. Peter Murphy - All Night Long Always look forward to Tom'songs since he and I share a deep enthusiasm fro 80's New Wave. Peter's vocals always top notch, but the song didn't quite captivate me the way I felt it should have.

Chosen By: singingrulebritannia Genre: Zeuhl Year: 1981
Points: 501 SD: 12.26085525 (10TH HIGHEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: I was rooting for this song hard. I knew it wasn't going to make the top ten, ultimately, but the tease was so fun. shazam: now this was great, also was hilarious to see it at #1 at one point. i need to get into zeuhl

Chosen By: Lordef†ones Genre: Alternative Dance Year: 2000
Points: 503 SD: 11.61239076
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This was *shockingly* low for a little bit. It wound up making the top 20, which is still a little lower than I was expecting, but not "flirting with the bottom half" low. shazam: you thought i wouldn't put Bjork top 10? ha
