I thought this would be like the highest SD lol
This was a great first listen, really sad thing as for what had happened to the band.

#22 King Krule - Cellular
Chosen By: MoD Points: 414 SD: 13.79181952 (HIGHEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: I'm actually kind of surprised that this isn't top half. Highest SD, though, that doesn't surprise me in the slightest. This ruled. shazam: ouch, this was one of my highest first listens. Krule going dark post-punk is right up my alley, and i especially loved the krautrock undertones here

#21 ONR - Human Enough
Chosen By: wheatsquares33 Points: 421 SD: 9.59414504
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: A couple of songs had some very interesting movement runs in this rankdown, this song included. I thought this song would hang out in the teens for the entire rankdown. Instead, it spent a couple of movements in the top ten. Wild. Throwbacks for days. shazam: lots of throwback sounds in this seed, huh? i thought this was really good

Liked the retro sound this had quite a bit, would've probably had it higher if it were a bit more innovative lyrically, but still a solid song overall

I didn't get the time to do this, but "Runner" would have been my #1 with "Strangers" as my #2.

I didn't get the time to do this, but "Runner" would have been my #1 with "Strangers" as my #2. While I was listening to Strangers I deadass thought "wow this sounds like a James pick" lmao Pretty happy with this set overall, the Sports Team song sounded ok at first but kinda irritating during subsequent listens, so it ended up as my 40 in a very strong group of songs.

Lost some really good songs (You and I, as mentioned before, was my favorite discovery as I didn't realize Caribou had new music out) but at least some of my bottom ten is out. I have a feeling my #38 is gonna stick around awhile.

#30. Balthazar - EntertainmentOne of those songs I could have even put in my top 15 if the list hadn't been so hard to rank. Cool vocals. The style sounds a bit like Indiepop I would like if sung my MisterWives, Wayfarers or Fickle Friends, so the whistles and happy did entertain me this time. #29. Jack Stauber's Micropop - Dinner Is Not OverThere was something very 80's Dr. Demento about this. Talking about the 80's show on KROQ where acts like Weird Al Yankovic got there start. Not exactly top 20 material for me, but a fun listen once in a while. #28. Muzz - Bad FeelingAnd this is what modern Indiepop morphed into. That's why I stopped charting it. #27. E nter Shikari - The Great UnknownDamn my first top 10 loss. I had a feeling this would be too (fill in the blank). For me this was NRGetic as fuck. Reminded me of some band. I'm scrolling through my mp3's The New Cities "Dead End Countdown". Like Catchy Elektro Emo style. #26. Lonely the Brave - BoundI liked this song a lot. Just one slot shy of my top 20. The intro gave me the idea it was going to be more late 80's ALternative rock then it went sort of EMO on me. Not a bad transition. I also craved more melody in the chorus. #25. Sports Team - Here's the ThingThis song was hokey as F U C K, but damn fun to listen to at the same time. Here's the thing The annoying part of it also gave it its charm. #24. Caribou - You and IStarted a little like a RetroWave jam would, but this genre can be tricky. While it's catchy and melodic it can also be deceiving, and it hardly ever features Micky Mouse on speed. basically that whole "peculiar" part with Micky and that modern pop sound killed the song for me big time. #23. Black Dresses - CREEP U I dug this. It's like 90's vibe with female vocals style. That's one of the few stuff I liked about the 90's #22. King Krule - CellularThis song was not the cool New Wave vibe I thought it would be. It basically has a good bassline and percussion pulls it along, but it never builds up on the chorus. In fact the song's whole structure through me off guard. Not a fan of songs that do that to me. #21. ONR - Human EnoughThrowback vibes never throw me off guard. Love the vocals on this. Got some DREAMCAR/Killers vibes all over the song. I can imagine melting if Davey Havok had sung this, but this guy did extremely well himself. His vocals could use a little more volume. This song has a good chance of finding itself on my music chart in the weeks to come.

Just wanted to share another song I had considered as a seed 4 pick, especially since I doubt it'll see the light of day otherwise. Maybe some of you who didn't like either of my actually picks would've enjoyed this one more. {My Ugly Clementine - "Who"}

#20 VR SEX - Maiden China
Chosen By: Geometrical Points: 422 SD: 9.87372656
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: I actually did not know that the singer here was John Drab Majesty, at first. Once I was told it was him, though, this song made all of the sense in the world. It's basically a darker, grittier take on Drab Majesty. shazam: i think it's no secret i and a good portion of the rock board have fallen in love with Drab Majesty. hearing Deb from DM take on his usual style but in a harsher, grimier way was super cool, this was almost my highest first listen. almost.

Chosen By: @humanshazam Points: 439 SD: 10.61086595
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: SHOEGAAAAAAAAAAAZE. You give me shoegaze, chances are that I'll like it. shazam: surprise! lyhom didn't send this! but yeah, after lyhom sent "Glow" by Slow Crush in the games forum WTM, i got really into this band for a bit, so i figured i'd spread the love over to the rock board

#18 Elbow - Empires
Chosen By: @bobpatience Points: 440 SD: 8.616705812 (6th LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Better than I was expecting from Elbow in 2020, tbh. I've really grown to adore "One Day Like This" in recent months, which suggests that Elbow is the grower type, and this might grow on me even more. shazam: honestly, outside of a few key singles, i haven't been able to dig into Elbow that much. this definitely wasn't bad at all, maybe requires more listens from me

I really liked the organ sound this song is based around. The style of playing as a whole kind of reminded me of Genesis

Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Leaving this out of my top ten hurt my soul a bit, not going to lie. shazam: sonically, one of the coolest songs here. i thought this had a strong shot at finals, tbh. definitely will be coming back to this one

Well, I'm happy most of you liked this song, anyway. I would've had no idea it existed if one of my RYM friends hadn't reviewed it because one of his friends is in the band, lol

Chosen By: peacebone Points: 454 SD: 11.63819655
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Leaving this out of my top ten hurt my soul a bit, not going to lie. Wait... shazam: when peace's list came in, i was kicking myself for not remembering to pick this. Jambinai's record last year was one of my favorites of the year, such a cool blend of Korean traditional music and post-rock. crazy that such an unconventional song did this well on a rankdown, too!

#15 Chromatics - Toy
Chosen By: Red Points: 461 SD: 10.93835541
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Bet you weren't expecting this to be one of my songs, eh? (Well, one of you expected this, but I assumed you would. :kii: ) I've always liked Chromatics, but I don't think I've ever really connected to them until I heard "Toy" for the first time. This is utterly hypnotic and gorgeous. shazam: i love me some Chromatics, man. while this isn't quite Cherry or Shadow, it's still really damn good
