 We’re working our way towards Mariah of today, who couldn’t be more on top of the world if she tried. And as the second-to-last rankdown, this is bound to be a good one. Lots of songs with lots of differing opinions giving so much good material. Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse is Mariah’s fourteenth studio album and was released on May 23, 2014. The record had been in development since 2011 and consists of guest appearances from Nas, Miguel, Wale, and Fabolous, and Mary Mary. On the deluxe edition of the album, R. Kelly and Mary J. Blige respectively make appearances on remixes of two songs - Betcha Gon' Know and It's a Wrap - taken from the scrapped remix album, Angel's Advocate. Previously titled The Art of Letting Go, the album was originally scheduled for release in 2012 following the single, "Triumphant (Get 'Em)" featuring Rick Ross and Meek Mill. However, after the song's underperformance, additional songs were recorded for the album, causing the release date to be pushed throughout 2013 and 2014. Together with Bryan Michael Cox, Mariah and Jermaine Dupri executive produced the album. It is named after a self-portrait that she drew at the age of three-years old that she captioned "Me. I Am Mariah". "The Elusive Chanteuse" part of the title is one of her many monikers. Though the album was critically appreciated, it was not a commercial success. Me. I Am Mariah... was promoted through a number of media appearances by as well as The Elusive Chanteuse Show. The singles released included the Australian top-ten and US Billboard Hot 100 top-twenty song "#Beautiful", as well as "The Art of Letting Go", "You're Mine (Eternal)", and "You Don't Know What to Do". This will be interesting! I need to revisit some tracks though.
I always thought The Art of Letting Go would have been a better title for the album, as a title sounds very dramatic and it captures the mood of the album well.
Oh how i wish the rollout for this album wasn't the mess it was.

Why is America the Beautiful included in this? Was that recording made during the sessions for The Elusive Chanteuse or something? I can't say that I remember any relationship between it and the album. She of course performed it in 90 and then again like in the TEOM era right?

Ugh, I love this album. There are very few duds. The only shame is that "Triumphant (Get 'Em)" is not included because that song is a bop.
