It’s kind of interesting to me that quite a few hip hop acts are transitioning to rock, it’s also not really that surprising considering the 2 genres should have a similar attitude. I really hope that Kendrick ends up working with some rock acts, especially with FEVER 333 since they make similar music despite being 2 different genres.

You could already hear bits of it in DAMN, my bet is that he'll drop the biggest album of the year!

I highly doubt Roddy will be the #1 album of the year and I highly doubt The Box will be the #1 song of the year
you're overthinking this guy having some zoomer success

I don't think FEVER 333 style would match well with Kendrick. Just because they both rap doesn't mean they'd have synergy. I think the better rock acts Kendrick could work with would be the new age blues/soul singers like Gary Clark Jr. or Brittany Howard.

Wait a minute, so you’re going to complain about Eminem lyrics but not ALOT of rap songs lyrics denigrating women, glorifying violence...etc? You have to do a lot of mental gymnastics to come to that point of view. It's not that he's denigrating women or glorifying violence...it's how he said it that's the issue. The fact it wasn't funny, interesting or even clever makes it leave a bad taste. It's like violence in movies: there's nothing wrong with having violence but how you present it matters. If presented badly, it comes across overly grotesque and morbid; gory for gore sake without any taste. If done well in either a fun way or an actually scary way, it can be an entertaining experience. Also, the music sounds terrible. I think you may have misunderstood my comment. Eminem is on some levels glorifying violence, which a lot of rappers do. I’m saying you can’t call out Eminem and not the overall rap genre for doing the same.

I highly doubt Roddy will be the #1 album of the year and I highly doubt The Box will be the #1 song of the year you're overthinking this guy having some zoomer success Songs that hit #1 on Billboard in Jan/Feb always have a better chance of being #1 on the year end charts.

I wouldn't immediately eliminate Roddy from having the #1 song and album of the year, since it still could.
But predicting this NOW is kind of insane since The Box only has one week at #1 so far and his album is only like, 2 months old (Granted, it did debut at #1, but most albums that are #1 and debuts anyway). This discussion is more suitable in three month's time if the song/album are still in the top 5 of the Hot 100/Billboard 200.

Ah yes, because so many people hated Blonde, untitled unmastered., and Lemonade when they dropped suddenly. Y'know if something drops and it's bad, it's bad, regardless if it dropped by surprise or had weeks of build-up. People haven't even heard the album, and they say it's bad. that's the problem. That’s exactly what’s wrong. Unless if its their fav or a universally loved artist, surprise albums get hated on for no reason

I highly doubt Roddy will be the #1 album of the year and I highly doubt The Box will be the #1 song of the year you're overthinking this guy having some zoomer success What success are we overthinking? You can think that The Box won't be the #1 song of the year, but you can't say we're overestimating its success. Last year at around this time, Without Me was the favorite for #1 on the year-end, and it only ended up at #3. Does this mean it didn't have much success? No. It was still the #12 song of the whole decade. The Box already blowing up with over 50k+ weekly points and that's without a proper music video and not that much radio push either. It's going to have lots of success even if it isn't #1 on the year-end.

Coming from someone not too fond of anything Eminem has put out in the last decade, the album is good

I won't say the Eminem album is amazing or anything, but I do really like a lot of the instrumentals, hooks, and guest performances. Is there any reason to think he won't have a similar Hot 100 success as with Kamikaze? (as in, a huge album bomb, with plenty of high debuts, and maybe one lasting past 10 weeks)

Also it would’ve been amazing if Kendrick hopped on the remix of Made an America instead of Vic Mensa, I still have no idea why Vic Mensa got on it.

I know right! Don't forget we're also getting Meghan Trainor's long-awaited third album and Kesha's new album on the last day of the month as well. It's been quite some time since we've had such an intense month for new releases. Hope the rest of the year keeps it up. 😉 Just so people don't think I'm nothing more than a rap/hip-hop hater (which I'm not), who in the world is awaiting Meghan's album? She's clearly taken a page from the mumble rapper book to put out the same song again and again. It worked twice, third time (with "No Excuses") was not the charm. Does anybody care anymore? As for Kesha, she's actually making good music nowadays, sad she's no longer bringing in the numbers. After what she went through, she sure deserves to. Yeah, Meghan will flop. Probably a top 50 single debut followrd by its immediate fall off the charts. The album i doubt will even debut top ten. Kesha has a dedicated fanbase atleast, so she will probsbly grt a song peak at about 50-55 but it will go to 20 weeks on rhe charts and have some longevity

Sadly an unpopular opinion, but Eminem isn't even top 100 in terms of GOAT rappers tbh. Success =/= talent and I'd take DIY psychotic, drug-fueled soundcloud rap over 50 year old corny clown any day lmao. Maybe thats just me tho That reference to the Manchester shooting is supposed to keep you remembering it. Kudos, Em. ...

Isn't January like way too soon to declare a year-end champion?
At this point last year nobody knew what a Lil Nas X was.

It’s January 17th...
Why are we talking about the Y/E charts, let alone the Y/E number one song?
LMFAOOO!
Current hits are strong contenders, yes, but so are songs that will inevitably be released by Rihanna, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Adele etc. later in the year.
Let’s reignite this conversation in May.

Talking about Y/E charts is fine but that should happen in the Y/E Predictions thread.

How well is "Break My Stride" doing? Was it a hit back when it was first released? Do you guys think it will get an overall revival or will it just be an exclusive Tik Tok + streaming scenario like what happened with Mariah Carey's "Obsessed" last year?

I remember when Lil Wayne did the same a decade ago and his fanbase accused him of selling-out. A true pioneer if I ever saw one.

Between The Box and Life is Good potentially reaching new peaks, and Eminem, Mac Miller and Halsey's albums, today might be the strongest we've seen Spotify in ages. Excited to see the update, hopefully Spotify releases it by midday tomorrow.

Vic is actually really good at punk rap, but I realize that’s an unpopular opinion of mine. I’ve had Brittany Howard in mind for collaboration as soon as the Kendrick rock rumor came out. That would be heaven.

One of Em's songs, Unaccomodating, hit the top 10 on AM. The power of Ariana Grande stans trying to 'cancel' him for that (admittedly tasteless) line about Manchester while giving him streams in the process. 😬 I does help it's one of the first tracks of the album as well, to be honest.
