I agree with SHOOTER and Period Dot that it's more generic and faceless than her previous album and EP. You're not agreeing with me because I never said that. I DID, however, connect Send My Love To John with American Life, though.

I have only discovered Rina within the past year. I had never seen anybody talking about her or heard any of her songs to my knowledge up to that point. I listened to 'Sawayama' earlier this year and while I liked it for the most part, it was a little too disjointed for me. I loved the experimentation and how unique the songs were but there was something about it that I wasn't gravitating towards. Fast forward to 'Hold the Girl' and I can honestly say it is, as of right now, my album of the year. I can see why people may think the album is generic but it doesn't bother me. I guess I love generic things. The album is very reminiscent for me of the 2000s and early 2010s pop music. The songs are the length pop songs were back then, most of the songs actually have bridges, she sounds absolutely incredible, and the lyrics for the most part I find enjoyable. My least favorite song from the album is "Hurricanes" and I could probably do without it but the rest of the songs I very much enjoy. Even if others don't love this album as much as I do - I like to think that there are other people out there who share similar feelings as me about the album.

Phew, that run from "Holy" to "Hurricanes" is amazing! But outside of that section, this album is very hit or miss. Nothing here quite hits like "XS" or "Akasaka Sad," but this is still a solid enough follow up.

Listening all the way through right now.
I adored Hold the Girl and This Hell (and their videos!) and liked CMITA and Phantom so I am hyped.
Holy (Til You Let Me Go) is AMAZING! What a bop.
Hate the album cover as I thought she had some beautiful imagery on every other single release.

Debuted at #166 on the Billboard 200, #23 on Independent Albums, #17 on Top Alternative Albums and #2 on Heatseekers.
SAWAYAMA only made it to #6 on Heatseekers and #43 on Independent; progress!

She did a good job in John Wick! She seems pretty disinterested in acting, but I think she could do a little damage there if she pursued it.

She did a good job in John Wick! She seems pretty disinterested in acting, but I think she could do a little damage there if she pursued it. I just watched this interview (which convinced me to go see this movie, btw -- Friday hopefully). She says it's the hardest thing she's done but she wants to do it again. That clip they showed at the end... I know Rina is talented but I didn't expect her to deliver like this, in an action movie no less. I unfortunately still have no use for much of Hold the Girl, but this new song from the soundtrack is tight, too:

Yeah, I echo that she was very effective in JW4. Also, HTG has definitely grown more on me.

'Hold the Girl' remains one of my favorite albums of last year. I wish Rina was more popular.

HTG is amazing. I need to play it more.
She announced a couple of new dates in the US.
Texas isn't part of those yet.
