I turned on the half-time show near the end of Shakira's opening, so I guess I should check it out from the start- apparently, her performance connected with the Spotify audience.

I'm pretty impressed by Shakira actually! I agree, I thought J. Lo would have dominated Itunes and Spotify, but I guess it's true that Shakira grabbed more peoples attention. I wonder if it would have been the same if J. Lo started first??

I love both ladies but let's be honest, Shakira's catalogue is way better... I would have expected "Let's Get Loud" to pop up tho.

chartf- I don't think the order has much of an impact in this case. People usually watch from start to finish, unless they're not into what they're seeing.

Lil Wayne dropped to only 6 songs in top 200 on Spotify US from 10 yesterday. Tomorrow it will be 4 (with a good possibility for 3). I won't mention the numbers because his best song is #16, second best is at #78 . . .

Now, he might not even do 100K album units in a week with an album with 24 songs.

I thought he was older than he is, I thought he'd started out/broken through longer ago than he did, AND I thought he would've phased out longer ago than he did (his last album bomb was little over a year ago, with 4 songs debuting top 10). King of blowing my mind. "Lollipop" still slaps.

Artists peak and then get diminishing returns.
One day we'll be saying "remember when Drake somehow got like 6 songs inside top 10? Now he can't even chart".

I figured Wayne would join Eminem, Jay Z, and Kanye in enjoying prolonged commercial success even long after his prime, but I guess his output has just been too scattered and spotty. Which is odd, since he is much younger than them, and barely older than Future, but nobody on his team seems to have any sense of what works and what doesn't in the mainstream, so he just seems completely washed up. Bare in mind, he's almost the same age Em was when he made Recovery.

If even Eminem, at nearly 50 years old, can still get minor hits from time to time (Lucky You, Godzilla), I think there's a good chance Drake can have similar commercial success later on down the line. Wayne was never a strategic sort of guy, and his management was very sketchy, so once he started faltering, he crumbled. Drake seems too smart to let that happen.

King of blowing my mind. "Lollipop" still slaps. I know. His career started in 1996, at the age of 13, but his commercial peak didn't come till about 12 years later in 2008. I don't know if it's a fair comparison, but take Taylor Swift for instance, her first album came out in 2006, when she was 16 and she didn't peak commercially till her fifth album, 1989, which came out in 2014, when she was 24. Drake's first mixtape dropped in 2006, when he was 19, but he didn't reach his commercial peak till Views in 2016, when he was 29 (for some people, his commercial peak is Scorpion in 2018, when he was 31). Those are the best examples I can quickly come up with of artists who started their music careers as teenagers and didn't peak until well into their adulthood. There are also people like Jay Z who dropped his first album at the age of 26 in 1996 and as at 2013, at the age of 43, dropped an album that moved 500K units in it's first week. There's also people like Eminem who are doing numbers 23 years after his first project as a musician. I know he went through a rough patch where he was in limbo artistically because of his issues with his label, but it seemed like he bounced right back with the release of Tha Carter 5 album, but now more than ever, those numbers seem very deceiving because they were all based on the hype of the album finally dropping after years of anticipation. The lack of public interest and the really poor performance of his latest album extends far beyond it not being a part of Tha Carter series. If there isn't even enough interest for him to move upwards of 20K units in sales which includes bundles and his songs are performing that terribly on streaming, I think he might finally be done, at least commercially.

Artists peak and then get diminishing returns. One day we'll be saying "remember when Drake somehow got like 6 songs inside top 10? Now he can't even chart". I doubt this will ever happen to Drake, not because all artists don't eventually lose their commercial viability, but because Drake has spoken about not rapping deep into his 40's and retiring before he completely loses his commercial appeal. If anything, he might push it to the end of this decade so he can say he had a 20-year music career. By 2029, he'll be 43. He's 33 now and what's wild to me is that Lil Wayne is only 4 years older than him. Lil Wayne is also age mates with Nicki Minaj - they're both 37. He really isn't that old. Eminem is 47 and Jay Z is 50 and they're still commercial forces in their own right.

I still can't believe Hot Girl Bummer has this much longevity lol interesting the gap between the memories and Circles is closing in I lowkey hope Circles dethrones Memories from #1.It's because Circles gained a format in Kworb's updates. Meaning that the AI that Circles had from that format wasn't tracked yesterday but is today. This gain from Circles will only be a one-time thing; more likely than not it will drop tomorrow. And with how things went this past week Circles won't be able to dethrone Memories.

What surprises me the most about Wayne is his 2019 album bomb that landed 4xTOP10s...and out of the sudden he can't crack 100k? Why the sudden irrelevance?

Probably because the album was dropped without much fanfare or hype outside of Wayne's fanbase. Tha Carter V had years of hype plus a redemptive story of sorts after Lil Wayne escaped Birdman's control but Funeral is basically a glorified mixtape. Plus Wayne has been declining in popularity in the last few years. Can't remember the last time a Lil Wayne song or feature really peaked interest to chart.

Both The Man by Taylor Swift and Cuz I Love You by Lizzo debuted this week on the pop charts. Could they possibly be successful hit songs.
