Benefitting from the release of her album Plastic Hearts, Miley Cyrus & Dua Lipa vault 40 spots clear to the top spot with "Prisoner" in only its second week on. With this achievement, two records are set: for greatest jump to #1, as well as largest gain between weeks. "Prisoner" is now both artists' second #1. "Midnight Sky" slides in behind them at #2, while her covers of "Zombie" and "Heart of Glass" also post wide gains.

Week 44: December 11, 2020



Ingrid Andress ends her year by climbing into the top spot with the beautiful "The Stranger." This is her first #1 single and a significant improvement performance-wise, after "More Hearts Than Mine" eked out a #15 peak in March. After a record-setting skyrocket to the top spot, Miley Cyrus & Dua Lipa suffer a steep drop this week as "Prisoner" falls victim to the holiday freeze and the longevity of some of the older songs that are still charting. It's most certainly not done on this chart, though! Look for it to stick around as 2020 ends and 2021 begins. One notable absence on the chart this week is Cam's "Till There's Nothing Left," the #1 vacating after a record 42 weeks on the chart (basically it was one week younger than the very inception of the chart itself). Two more holiday songs debut, including "Oh Santa!" from the trio of Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande & Jennifer Hudson, as well as Dolly Parton's "Christmas On The Square." This week's Greatest Gainer honors are shared by Carrie Underwood/John Legend & Martina McBride, who both climb five spots with "Hallelujah" and "Silver Bells" respectively.

Week 45: December 18, 2020



Gabby Barrett notches her first #1 hit with "The Good Ones" from her debut album Goldmine. Mickey Guyton and the duo of Zach Williams & Dolly Parton slide in behind her. Movement continues to be stifled throughout the chart as the holiday freeze nears its peak. If not for this peak, Taylor Swift would've seen a massive album bomb from the surprise release of evermore. Alas, there proves to be no room for her, save for her own holiday tune "Christmas Tree Farm," which posts a healthy 7-spot gain. The Greatest Gainer of the week is the trio of Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande & Jennifer Hudson, who shoot "Oh Santa!" from 49-15 in its second week.

Mickey Guyton receives a gift for Christmas in the form of her second #1, as she ends 2020 with "Heaven Down Here" climbing into the top spot. Zach Williams & Dolly Parton trail behind her with "There Was Jesus" at #2. Movement for regular songs continues to be stifled as the holiday tunes all surge in their peak week, taking up a huge portion of the Top 20, with Taylor Swift and Dolly Parton sharing the week's Greatest Gainer honors, as "Christmas Tree Farm" and "Christmas on the Square" each vault 23 spots.

Week 47: January 1, 2021



Mickey Guyton pulls off a Mariah Carey, as she logs a second week at #1 with "Heaven Down Here," making her the first--and to date, only--act to have the final and first #1 song of two respective years (in this case, obviously 2020 and 2021). Elsewhere, nothing new debuts quite yet, as the holiday freeze enters its final week of the year. The holiday songs do all take a nosedive, however, occupying the entire bottom 11 of the chart and allowing regular music to begin charting better.

Parker McCollum hangs tight at #2 with "Young Man's Blues," while "Legends Never Die" sends Orville Peck and Shania Twain to the bronze position. This week's Greatest Gainer honors go to Meg Myers, who sends "Running Up That Hill" seven spots to #18. As the holiday freeze thaws out, the gaping hole in the bottom portion of the chart allows for a record-setting eleven songs to debut at once, including "willow" and "gold rush" by Taylor Swift, "Champion" by Miranda Lambert (while also charting "Fire Escape"), "Tears of Gold" by David Bisbal & Carrie Underwood, and more.

Someone had to send it to #1 somewhere since his label f**ked it up.   Orville Peck & Shania Twain trail behind him at #2 with "Legends Never Die," while Maddie & Tae decorate their "Bathroom Floor" with bronze. Two new songs make debuts this week--Thomas Rhett's "What's Your Country Song" and the 2020 version of "Close My Eyes" from Mariah Carey, found on her compilation of The Rarities. In their 39th week on the chart, Maddie & Tae wipe the "Bathroom Floor" with the competition to clinch the #1 spot, their second overall after "Die From A Broken Heart" hit the penthouse in April 2020. Following behind them at the runner-up spot is Eric Church with "Stick That In Your Country Song," with The Chicks entering the Top 3 with "Sleep At Night." Two new debuts come in this week: Maggie Rogers' "Love You For A Long Time" and Ingrid Andress' "Lady Like." The Greatest Gainer this week is Olivia Rodrigo, whose debut single "drivers license" posts a 5-position jump from 48-43.

NOTE: This week's chart will be the last appearance of Morgan Wallen's "More Than My Hometown," and of Wallen in general. As you all know, he was caught on camera days after this chart week's date spouting the N-word in his neighborhood. The consequences he has faced have been all deserved, and I can't in good conscience support his music and keep it on my chart. Replacing him on the February 5 chart will be Brothers Osborne in their chart debut with "I'm Not For Everyone." I found this only fitting since on the same day that Wallen's N-word video began circulating around social media, lead vocalist TJ Osborne came out as the first openly gay artist to be signed to a country music label. I am very happy to give spins to someone in this industry that I can relate to.

Week 54: February 19, 2021



Taylor Swift blasts us back to 2008 and debuts at #1 with her re-recording of "Love Story," from her upcoming re-recording of her Grammy-winning second studio album Fearless. Since it is a re-recording, and since official charts count the re-recordings as separate from the original, I decided I would count these as separate as well (no, not just because it's Taylor Swift  :kii: ). This is her second #1 and second #1 debut following "cardigan." Riding the benefit of that are her three other songs on the chart--evermore's "willow," "gold rush," and "right where you left me," which all see wide gains. Taylor blocks Chris Stapleton from the top spot, and somewhat stifles movement in the Top 10. It's also a great week for debuts, as Dua Lipa's "We Good," Ryan Hurd & Maren Morris' "Chasing After You," Carrie Underwood's "Softly & Tenderly," and the "34+35 Remix" from Ariana Grande, Doja Cat & Megan Thee Stallion all join Taylor in appearing. Taylor also shares the Greatest Gainer honors with herself--"willow" and "gold rush" both post 11-spot jumps, capping a great chart week for her.

Taylor Swift finally becomes the first artist to spend multiple weeks at #1 in 2021, as the re-recording of "Love Story" closes the revolving door this chart had been operating for nearly three months. Some of the biggest leaps this week come from Carly Pearce's "Next Girl," the Ryan Hurd & Maren Morris duet "Chasing After You," and the remix of Ariana Grande's "34+35," the latter two of which share the week's Greatest Gainer honors by vaulting 21 spots. Debuts this week include Larry Fleet's "Where I Find God," "I Would've Loved You" from Jake Hoot & Kelly Clarkson, Luke Bryan's "Down To One," Maddie & Tae's "I Don't Need To Know," Tenille Arts' "Somebody Like That" (which is aiming for a better chart run this time), and Carly Pearce's "29," the title track to her new EP.

Week 60: April 2, 2021




Kelsea Ballerini & Shania Twain's max week was timed perfectly, as "hole in the bottle" climbs to the top spot, becoming the first #1 for Kelsea and the second for Shania, after her hit with Orville Peck, "Legends Never Die," claimed a week in the penthouse back in January. NOTE: I have a twist for y'all!!! I have decided that should this song wind up on the year-end rankdown for 2021, both versions of "hole in the bottle" will be eligible for ranking--in other words, the Shania-aided chart run will count as the solo version's chart run as well.

After quite a few weeks of being slightly stifled in the Top 10, movement is more seamless, with a number of songs dropping below the threshold and allowing others to make it in, including "Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home," which sends Elle King & Miranda Lambert to the Top 10 after only five weeks on the chart. Among the debuts this week are "You All Over Me" from Taylor Swift (with backing vocals from Maren Morris), "Woman You Got" from Maddie & Tae, and "How Great Thou Art" & "Because He Lives" from Carrie Underwood. The Greatest Gainers this week are Caroline Jones and the duo of Troye Sivan & Kacey Musgraves, who have a massive 7-position boost with "What A View" and "Easy" respectively.

There's not much room for debuts this week, but Miranda Lambert does replace herself, as "Settling Down" debuts at the very bottom, replacing "Fire Escape" as the latest Wildcard single. Week 62: April 16, 2021



Taylor Swift takes us back in time to 2008 as she sees another wonderful week on the chart, aided by the release of Fearless (Taylor's Version). She debuts at #1 with the title track, and sees four other songs enter at respectable positions as well, including the Vault track "Mr. Perfectly Fine." "Love Story (Taylor's Version)" also takes a huge jump, back into the Top 5. Dua Lipa/DaBaby, Miranda Lambert, and Caroline Jones all manage to survive the Tay-pocalypse by hanging out in the Top 5 for another week. Elsewhere in the Top 10, movement becomes very stifled thanks to Miss Swift.
