Fresh off the heels of her first ever Grammy wins with "Bring My Flowers Now" and the associated album it came from ( While I'm Livin'), it's about high time that Tanya Tucker get a rankdown of her own, ain't it? Especially since she received TONS of other types of nominations over the last few decades! (check her wikipedia page to see what else she was nominated for and when!) This woman's essentially had two careers in one lifetime: one as a breakout teenage country star with several top ten hits and a few chart hiccups here and there from the 70s to the early 80s, and another as she signed with Capitol Records in 1986 where she began to enjoy even more consistent success on country radio with nearly two dozen extra top ten hits on top of her sixteen as a young spring chicken. Now, as a disclaimer for this rankdown, not every single that she released will be included as some of her releases over the years failed to chart; however, 70 songs should be plenty enough to whet your whistle! Most of y'all should be familiar with how these rankdowns go, but as a reminder, rank these songs from #1 (your favorite) to #70 (your least favorite) and send your list to me in a PM (@\cjashby75). I'll set the deadline for APRIL 19 (so roughly two months from now), but since this is a relatively huge rankdown, I'm open to giving extensions as I usually do! Here's the song list!Delta Dawn Love's the Answer What's Your Mama's Name Child Blood Red and Goin' Down Would You Lay with Me (In a Field of Stone) The Man That Turned My Mama On I Believe the South is Gonna Rise Again Lizzie and the Rainman Spring San Antonio Stroll Greener Than the Grass (We Laid On) Don't Believe My Heart Can Stand Another You (w/ Glen Campbell) You've Got Me to Hold On To Here's Some Love Ridin' Rainbows It's a Cowboy Lovin' Night You Are So Beautiful Dancing the Night Away Not Fade Away Texas (When I Die) I'm the Singer, You're the Song Lover Goodbye Pecos Promenade Dream Lover (w/ Glen Campbell) Can I See You Tonight Love Knows We Tried Should I Do It Feel Right Changes Baby I'm Yours One Love at a Time Just Another Love I'll Come Back as Another Woman It's Only Over For You Love Me Like You Used To I Won't Take Less Than Your Love (w/ Paul Davis and Paul Overstreet) If It Don't Come Easy Strong Enough to Bend Highway Robbery Call on Me Daddy and Home My Arms Stay Open All Night Walking Shoes Don't Go Out (w/ T. Aw I get not including either of the singles from 'Tear Me Apart' but "Better Late Than Never" did chart in Canada at least haha
I will be working on this, love Tanya! Her early material is so great, well it all is, but I love a lot of her output from the 70's

I'm working my way through this. I know most of her 90s material and beyond, and her huge hits from the 70s and 80s. There are a lot of new discoveries for me from earlier in her career.

Starting to work on this and wow it's going to be tough to rank this. 6 songs in and it's damn near impossible to do.
ETA: As great as "Delta Dawn" is I kinda hope it doesn't come in at #1, a true classic sure but she's got so many great songs this is a perfect rankdown for a surprise winner. I'd be fine with it making it high just hoping it doesn't win.

I agree - "Delta Dawn" is fantastic, but Tanya has better songs for sure.

I swear, if y'all decide to start tanking "Delta Dawn" just because it's TOO great of a song, I'm gonna flip!!!

There's no excuse for "Delta Dawn" not making it into the top 5 for a Tanya Tucker rankdown. It'd be an injustice for it not to be!

Hi everyone! :) Apologies for staying mum the last several weeks as I've personally been trying to make sense of all this coronavirus stuff. To make up for it, I'm gonna push the deadline back a few weeks to MAY 10. It still sounds fairly early, but it should allow a little more breathing room for most of you who've already started to work on this (like me!). Currently, I have lists from someguy, Kanenrá:ke, and tim in my inbox that I plan to put in my spreadsheet by the end of the week. Have fun travelin' through time folks! {Song List}Delta Dawn Love's the Answer What's Your Mama's Name Child Blood Red and Goin' Down Would You Lay with Me (In a Field of Stone) The Man That Turned My Mama On I Believe the South is Gonna Rise Again Lizzie and the Rainman Spring San Antonio Stroll Greener Than the Grass (We Laid On) Don't Believe My Heart Can Stand Another You (w/ Glen Campbell) You've Got Me to Hold On To Here's Some Love Ridin' Rainbows It's a Cowboy Lovin' Night You Are So Beautiful Dancing the Night Away Not Fade Away Texas (When I Die) I'm the Singer, You're the Song Lover Goodbye Pecos Promenade Dream Lover (w/ Glen Campbell) Can I See You Tonight Love Knows We Tried Should I Do It Feel Right Changes Baby I'm Yours One Love at a Time Just Another Love I'll Come Back as Another Woman It's Only Over For You Love Me Like You Used To I Won't Take Less Than Your Love (w/ Paul Davis and Paul Overstreet) If It Don't Come Easy Strong Enough to Bend Highway Robbery Call on Me Daddy and Home My Arms Stay Open All Night Walking Shoes Don't Go Out (w/ T. Guess who's crawling out of their shell again? I promised myself to wait until I made a big dent on my own list before inputting anyone else's list, but I caved in today. someguy, Kanenrá:ke, and tim are officially in the mix! :o For the time being, I'll keep the deadline for MAY 10, but am currently toying with the idea of a two week extension given the size and diversity of this songlist. No worries of you can't make it one month from now; just super curious to see where your tastes lie. {Spoiler}{Song List}Delta Dawn Love's the Answer What's Your Mama's Name Child Blood Red and Goin' Down Would You Lay with Me (In a Field of Stone) The Man That Turned My Mama On I Believe the South is Gonna Rise Again Lizzie and the Rainman Spring San Antonio Stroll Greener Than the Grass (We Laid On) Don't Believe My Heart Can Stand Another You (w/ Glen Campbell) You've Got Me to Hold On To Here's Some Love Ridin' Rainbows It's a Cowboy Lovin' Night You Are So Beautiful Dancing the Night Away Not Fade Away Texas (When I Die) I'm the Singer, You're the Song Lover Goodbye Pecos Promenade Dream Lover (w/ Glen Campbell) Can I See You Tonight Love Knows We Tried Should I Do It Feel Right Changes Baby I'm Yours One Love at a Time Just Another Love I'll Come Back as Another Woman It's Only Over For You Love Me Like You Used To I Won't Take Less Than Your Love (w/ Paul Davis and Paul Overstreet) If It Don't Come Easy Strong Enough to Bend Highway Robbery Call on Me Daddy and Home My Arms Stay Open All Night Walking Shoes Don't Go Out (w/ T. SUBMITTED!!!!!!!!!! I got a random burst of inspiration last night after finishing Kenny Rogers and thought I should wipe out another rankdown. Thought I might choose a Trisha album or something quick like that, but then I ended up choosing this one instead for some reason. So I started this at like midnight, and finally finished around 4 am Listened to the whole playlist from beginning to end, and y'all, I really enjoyed it!!!! Like, a lot!!! I was admittedly a little hesitant about this rankdown, because I do not particularly care for Tanya's voice, and I did not know much of her material but I have disliked almost everything we have heard from her in year-end rankdowns... But this rankdown completely surprised me!!! I found several major jams that I will be going back to frequently from here on out! And honestly didn't straight-up dislike anything at all, so I don't know wtf happened with all my rankings in the year-end rankdowns... I guess maybe when you're listening to her voice non-stop, it sounds better than when you randomly hear her voice alongside other '90s women like Martina... Lmao. I am sure her '80s material will do quite well on my lists if we ever move into '80s year-end rankdown territory. So anyway, I highly recommend doing this rankdown! It looks large, but old songs always tend to go quickly

I have a hunch that there are a handful of others like you having the same thoughts of hesitation about tackling this rankdown, so I'm glad you came out of this having a much greater appreciation for both her as an artist and her overall work! Thanks to my mom I was introduced to Tanya at a very early age as I remember there being lots of cassette tapes of her around the house, but admittedly I wasn't all that familiar with her early material in the late '70s and very early '80s. Much to my own surprise I found that I enjoyed most if not all of the material in her early years all the way up to the TNT era in 1978 (save for "Texas (When I Die)" of course). It was around that time that her material began to lag which happened to also coincide with her relationship with the late Glen Campbell as well as other personal struggles. There's quite a bit of songs during the early '80s that likely won't fare well at all in the rankdown, but she did rebound in 1986 with the Girls Like Me era and everything thereafter is quite strong. Anyways, for anyone that remembers doing the Reba McEntire rankdown and found themselves struggling like myself to get through her early material in the '70s/'80s I don't think you're going to encounter that same problem here. Some of you might find the sound "dated" I suppose, but the material itself is much stronger than anything Reba released during those early years lol. I'm hoping to see Cody Wants Out... get a good turnout for this...so keep the reminders coming!

tim did you really just admit that you hate "Texas (When I Die)"?!!?!!? No, I think you misunderstood what I was saying or it came out wrong lol. I meant that most if not all of her material up to the TNT era was good because it was about then that it started to lag...“Texas (When I Die)” was the one exception from that album is what I was trying to convey! Lordy, even if I did happen to dislike that song as a Texan myself I wouldn’t dare say so otherwise I might as well just dig my own hole and put myself six feet under lol.

I was gonna say, usually you start doing backflips at the slightest mention of Texas, so I figured you'd love that one But I thought that album was just as strong as, if not stronger than, most of what came before it. I mean, "Lover Goodbye" may or may not be just outside of my top 5... I didn't really notice a lull in material either; for me it felt like she just got consistently better and better until we got to like the Soon era, when there was a definite drop.

Speaking for myself there was definitely a noticeable lull in her material from 1978’s TNT up through 1982’s Changes...that just also happened to coincide with her Glen Campbell romance and other struggles. She certainly rebounded in 1986, though, and her material remained quite strong up to the Soon era which you mentioned. I’d even say that continued on to her next album Fire to Fire, but she did rebound a bit with Complicated in 1997. I still say she’s one of the most overlooked legends of our time and I’m so glad that Brandi and Shooter were able to talk her into doing another album of which she had many reservations about even doing.

I agree that her late 1970s to mid 1980s stuff wasn't her best. I do like the TNT album, but after that is when her output started to slide, imo.

But aside from that, Tanya’s material from 1986 through say the end of 1993 was incredibly strong and likely would’ve netted her numerous accolades if not for her storied past. She was much more deserving of a lone Female Vocalist of the Year trophy, but alas she has gotten her time to shine yet again! I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see her nominated at this years CMA’s (whatever that might even look like at this point).

I hope that she might get a nomination, for song or album, but I doubt it to be honest. The CMA has really been recognizing commercial success these last few years, and sadly that would exclude Tanya. I would love to see her get some nominations, though.

Umm, what exactly are you trying to imply here? I’m not going to apologize for being a fan because that is what these rankdowns are for. If you’re insinuating what I think you are I’m not going to even bother commenting any further in this rankdown going forward. I thought hosts were supposed to be inviting of conversation and not trying to deter it.

tim I interpreted this... I'm hoping to see Cody Wants Out... get a good turnout for this...so keep the reminders coming! ...as you trying to tell me how to do my job and it definitely rubbed me the wrong way. I'll confess to providing a knee-jerk reaction which could just as easily be misinterpreted and I apologize for doing so. In no way, shape, or form am I attempting to stifle any opinions or dialogue from others who are more well-versed in Tanya's discography than I am presently. Again, I am deeply sorry for coming across that way. :( I'm in the process of entering bboat11's list and finalizing overall placements. A reminder (plus an overdue surprise) is coming tonight!
