Aw, I'm so proud that Devil Inside and Fast Car are both in the top ten. Oh, and What's On Your Mind too!
It stinks we lose Hazy Shade of Winter and What I Am so close to it, but both have nothing to be ashamed of by being so close.
Psst, Doc: Manic Monday is their best.

It deserved the top 10 more than Kiss Them For Me did in 1991, I'll say that much

Red won't like me saying this but Beds Are Burning is easily the weakest link in this top 5

#10: "Devil Inside" - INXS Top 10 for this song. no complaints from me. I'm also gonna give a high rank to "Never Tear Us Apart" as I loved both songs at the same level.
#9: "Peek-A-Boo" - Siouxsie & Banshees I am not gonna lie. I know this song mostly from "Jeepers Creepers". Fascinating horror flick. I came across this song way more times from repeat viewing of the movie than from any radio playback. I also love the melody as it reminds me of some twisted kinda gothic circus freak attraction where this song would be the showcase entrance music.
#8: "Where Is My Mind?" - Pixies I never knew of this band back then. Id say Grunge music was born from this band's ideas. I've seen fight club and I've never payed attention to this particular song. Not my style.
#7: "What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy)" - Information Society Now this is what '88 radio pop sounded like to me. This band injected their form of Freestyle beats while keeping up with New Wave like vocal tones. The tones were Tom Bailey from Thompson Twins like. In fact I've heard mash ups of Information Society with Thompson Twins.
#6: "Fast Car" - Tracy Chapman There is the big echo in canyon I was waiting for. I tyanked this on pop RD so at least I'm consistent. I never understood how this song caught on to listeners. It's way toooooooo simple for my taste. And it always felt so off played in between Poison or Janet Jackson hits of the time. Definitely more 90's than 80's and If I wanted coffee house playback I'll just go watch a Friends reruns where Phoebe performs "Smelly Cat". I've never come a cross a song more contradictory then this title. hmmm... Fast my ass.

Very solid Top 5. Two Church songs in the Top 5, that's pretty impressive.
Rooting for either Suedehead or Reptile to win it all.

All excellent entries. Peek-A-Boo and What's On Your Mind the best of the five.

I probably wouldn't be as harsh to Beds are Burning as I have been to Midnight Oil in the past.
If this appears in Mainstream, don't expect me to tank it.

20. Birthday (23): Wicked, unique, haunting, mesmerizing production, vibe and vocals. A highlight from Sugarcubes for me.
19. Tower of Strength (30): This was a pretty good discovery for me. I liked the mysterious, string-sprung production (strings and percussion), vocals and overall goth-pop vibe. Filter's Take a Picture may have been inspired by them...
18. Talkin' Bout A Revolution (27): This was a good followup to Fast Car. It's a compact, effective song with pretty good melody and a more alternative vibe than FC. I'm pleasantly surprised it's gotten this high.
17. All Night Long (12): This was my favorite discovery in this RD. It has the type of melody, production and vocals that strike a chord with me; those 80s percussive and synth sounds were great as well the vocal arrangements that reminisced of Heroes del Silencio, Jaguares and other Latin rock artists.
16. Carolyn's Fingers (17): I had forgotten about this song, but soon after I heard it again for this RD, I got hooked on it again. I really like the instrumentation and vibe here, and her operatic vocals. It's a pretty good combination to me. I would've put it a bit higher if she had sung fewer RRRRRs... I was afraid it was gonna face more reticence here, so I'm happy it's this high.
15. Mandinka (11): I discovered this song in the 90s when a TV channel played several Sinead songs in a row -and I loved it. This may be one of the most sonically interesting, dynamic and accessible songs by her. And her vocals complemented the strong sound and melody perfectly.
14. What I Am (22): One of the few songs in this RD that made my personal chart -and made the top 5. I've always liked this, especially the musical bridge. I could've ranked it a bit higher, but I gave extra points to sounds that sounded a bit harder.
13. Desire (5): A big hit back home, and a personal chart-topper. I fell a bit out of love in the 00s, but I've progressively come back to loving it in the past 5 years. The high energy fun that exudes, plus the nice use of harmonicas and guitars make me clap and sing to it. I was fearing it would be tanked by many, but I'm glad I was wrong :)
12. Crash (9): This song made my personal top 5 in the 90s, when its remixed version made the charts in one rock and one pop station. Love the energy, melody, vocals, all condensed into a short but effective song. I really appreciate it when this happens. Even more when there is a female lead vocalist.
11. Hazy Shade of Winter (8): Come on, now! Third top 10 loss :( this was a minor hit back home, but a big one in my personal chart, reaching the top. Just like Crash, another compact but effective rocker with a female lead --actually, several female vocals harmonizing in a rock song, which in itself is great! And all played their instruments quite well (those drums!). I love Eternal Flame, Walk.. and Manic... but in the past 20 years I've listened to this and Be With You many more times --great for long drives, to keep your spirits high, and have an uplifting moment.

lol! That's an even worse EDM version. There are actually a bunch of EDM remixes of the songs on youtube. All worthy of being thrown into the abyss. Obviously I prefer the original any day of the week. I just don't like the song itself.

10. Devil Inside (1): I changed my mind several times on which song to put at #1. It was a carousel of 4 songs that I've loved for many years. In the end the battle was among this and another one, but gave the extra advantage to this classic. A personal chart-topper that is arguably their most popular song back home, and one of my favorite INXS songs ever. Great musicality, production, vocals, with a great crescendo and dynamic. Even though it sounds a bit more pop than most songs remaining, it should've been a bit higher. 9. Peek-a-boo (6): Another great example of weird, unique, interesting music. Love the eclectic circus-like instrumentation, melody and vocals. Great to see it this high. 8. Where Is My Mind? (20): As soon as I heard it for this RD, I remember hearing some of it in the 90s. Strong hook, melody and forward-looking production that sounded more like 90s music. My favorite re-discovery in this RD. 7. What's On Your Mind (10): Mind you, two mind songs in a row! A personal top 3 back then, and a hit back home that has had a good recurrent airplay. Pretty good sound, mixing the earlier 80s synthpop influence and the upcoming early 90s electronic sound. 6. Fast Car (34): I ranked this at #32 in the Hot 100 1988 RD. I've always liked this quite a bit, making it to the top 5 in my personal chat. In terms of pure love to this song, I would've ranked it in my top 15, however in the end I gave more points to other songs with harder sound or attitude, and this sounded a bit too much AC. No complaints, though, as I do love it.

Here are my predictions for Top 5.
1. Church - Under The Milky Way 2. Erasure - Chains Of Love 3. Church – Reptile 4. Morrissey – Suedehead 5. Midnight Oil - Beds Are Burning
I personally would love to see Reptile or Suedehead win. This is a very strong Top 5.

Love this undeniable classic so much. Also used beautifully in the second season of Netflix's Dead To Me.

Genius classic song, even though the man is a tool nowadays. I was surprised Everyday Is Like Sunday wasn't anywhere near as a big of a hit, it feels like more of one of his signature songs.
