Just Play Music being dominating Alternative radio that summer of '88 is so interesting, it's groovy but I wouldn't even call it their best single of the '80s (I'd give it to E=MC^2).
I also co-sign the fact that Rush and The Globe are better than this.

Hothouse Flowers sucks. I've strongly disliked every song of theirs I've ranked so far - every song uses the same annoying vocal gimmick of overlapping a bunch of lines at once. Let's get the other one out ASAP.

Airhead is such a funky song, it's a shame that lyrically it's quite cringey for 2020.

Yeah, the lyrics turn me off of Airhead. But there's something about that sound that I do like.

#100: "Go Bang!" - ShriekbackLOL! This stunk beyond a first preview. ...and here I thought the only song with the word "Bang" I was gonna tank this year was AJR's travesty. #99: "Breakfast In Bed" - UB40 (w/ Chrissie Hynde) The UB40 hate is real, but Im not gonna defend this song either, and what was Chrissy Hynde thinking lending her vocals? She must have ode this band a favor or something? #98: "She's Having A Baby" - Dave WakelingLOL! This wouldn't be a PULSE RD unless I lose a crown song right at the starting gate.  I knew you all would tank this the second I thought it was such melodic and catchy fun. I won't be tanking songs with Dave Wakeling on vocals. I'm a big Kevin Bacon fan since Friday The 13th, but this song was the best part of the movie. Only three songs in and you already let Tracy Chapman overstay here welcome.  #97: "Rev Jack & His Roamin Cadillac Church" - Timbuk 3I'm not a fan of this band, but I do on occasion go for some cool bluesy pock type jams. This however gave new meaning to the boring. I thought the band was gonna fall off their stools as they performed it.  #96: "Just Play Music" - Big Audio DynamiteI know this band has a V.I.P. slot in bottom 10 ,but this wasn't half as bad as the other songs we ranked from them. At least they kept away from the undistorted noize effects. #95: "Cold Metal" - Iggy PopNot a fan of Iggy unless he is trying to be Billy Idol. #94: "Other 99" - Big Audio Dynamite"Just Play Music" was slightly better then this, but I still don't think this deserved bottom 10. Not with TWO Tracy Chapman songs still swimming around. and besides this had a rather decent melody structure in the music. #93: "I'm Sorry" - Hothouse FlowersI don't know about any of you, but I got some Jim Morrison vocal delivery vibes here. At least in the spoken type intro. If you all wanna upgrade pub rock try this instead. #92: "Airhead" - Thomas DolbyIf you trying to kill the last of the 80's vibes songs then you really pissing me off.  He is singing about a hot materialistic chick. What's so lyrically cringy about this that wasn't with Madonna "Material Girl" which I also love BTW. I want a better excuse than that played out lyrics thing for tanking this Funky wonder jam.  #91: "Help Save The Youth Of America" - Billy Bragg Finally this RD hit the bullseye. This was my #98. Only two songs are worst than this. You want cringy? Here you go. Tones not lyrics. Rough day for 80's icons., and way too many vocal cringes in my tank live to swim another day.  |

I'm not too upset with any of these songs being out now though "Airhead" is a bit of a guilty pleasure. Much like I've done in the past for rock chart rankdowns I plan to give stats updates here but will only be doing so every 20 reveals.

Today's Preview:Nothing too dramatic happening in today's reveals, except for the 4th HIGHEST standard deviation. All but two of the songs in this next set will have at least one ranking from the top third (the other two do expose at least one top half rank), so many of us will be losing something we like. MANY of us will miss out of a PPPPP by a single position, but there will be a lucky person who does actually get one on the nose.
Will you be the first to lose a Top 10 rank? someone will...or maybe you'll be one of three people who finally rid themselves of their 100?

I'm going to try to work on this over the next two days, but I've really felt burnt out lately, rankdowns or otherwise, and I've been needing to take a bit of a break from Pulse. This is basically my way of saying that, while I am going to work on this, it's going to be somewhat touch and go. i hope the extension will ease your burnout a bit It didn't. :( The fact of the matter is that I really have needed a break from Pulse for a bit, and I decided to take it, admittedly at a time where I knew there was a chance I might miss this. I regret missing this rankdown for multiple reasons, and, believe me, I am sorry that I wasn't able to submit, but a) the show must go on, with or without me, and b) no, seriously, I needed a bit of a break to recharge. It all just came at the worst possible time. I was going to ask to not be tagged, because I was going to follow along anyway, but I guess I have been tagged after all. Well, then.  The one nice thing I'll say about "Just Play Music" is that it's better than "The Globe". |

Actually, I like what I've heard of Shriekback's work from their early days. Looking around the web, it seems this was commonly agreed to be the album where they jumped the shark, and it definitely shows in the two songs we ranked  |
