Yeeeah, the production is quite dated in ISLB, but maybe Good Time had better options with this peaking at only #2732 in 2009 I guess? I blame this on being a bad single choice instead of being a bad song period if you ask me.
Based on the title alone, "It's Alright to Be a Redneck" kinda rubs me the wrong way, despite living way out in the boonies. ;)

I absolutely just don't mesh with IATBAR. At all. That's a song of his that I just don't like.

@ "Bologna" even having ranks in the 30s and 40s. "Redneck" isn't a particularly good song either. Off to a good start!

Based on the title alone, "It's Alright to Be a Redneck" kinda rubs me the wrong way, despite living way out in the boonies. ;) I actually agree with this because I feel the same way about the title. But then when I hear the song I'm like, "Ok, this isn't as bad as the title might suggest". I'm surprised they even considered this as a single, but When Somebody Loves You is probably one of Alan's weakest releases in regards to its quality of tracks.

This song isn't all *that* good and I expected it out in the bottom 10, but really? Before the other Freight Train single? "It's Just That Way" is one of the worst single choices of his career and it more or less ended his hopes of having any further hits. There was still some chance he could bounce back from "Bologna" but I remember when that single hit radio and stalled out like it did, you could just tell he was done. But I'm feeling very confident now about the prediction it'll be the first album to go now because I can't imagine that one is too far behind, lol.

One thing you can say about Alan is that he makes a lot of music videos! Anyways, as most of you guessed Alan's sixteenth studio album Freight Train is the first to exit which saw both of its singles leave in the bottom 5. Which means it's time for our first album spotlight!

There was still some chance he could bounce back from "Bologna" but I remember when that single hit radio and stalled out like it did, you could just tell he was done. I've always kind of had a soft spot for this song and enjoy it well enough, but even then I could barely muster a top 60 ranking for this myself. I'm not sure where Alan's mindset was regarding wanting further radio success at this point in his career, but I do think this kind of killed any momentum he had going into Thirty Miles West which had some much better radio singles.

Despite the mis-fire on the singles, this isn't a half bad album. That said, it also has the distinction of being the only Alan Jackson album I own, because I won it in a giveaway off some country blog site back in the day (I think it was The 9513), lmao.
"After 17," "Till the End," "Taillights Blue," and the title track are my faves. All quality tracks. The lead single would be my #11 or #12 on this record if/when we rank it.

Not sad about anything yet... get into my top 15 and then maybe. "Redneck" is cute tho and didn't deserve this low. Even "Hard Hat And A Hammer" being out already seems harsh, even tho I don't like that song at all.

I used to like "Country Boy" way more than I do now... I re-listened to it for the RD and wasn't really diggin' it. I think especially in the context of this RD, my top 10 was super strong so it pointed out just how not strong CB is lol.

I don't quite share in the disdain that some have for this song, but I do admit the lyrics are nothing short of cringeworthy now.

Late 2008 to early 2009 was a weak time for the charts and country radio and this song reaching #1 epitomized that. I love Alan but “Country Boy” has always been at the bottom of his discography for me. It’s cliched and uninteresting.
