Aesthetically sheโs delivering in every f**king sense for me, god damn I havenโt been this impressed with an eraโs art direction in... ever? The video felt totally pointless, though. It was nice to look at, and it got the budget โStupid Loveโ desperately wanted, but the choreo was ridiculous (Arianaโs ability as a dancer is exactly as bas as Mariahโs, and Iโm not even sure she was even bothering to lip some of the words trying to stay on beat) and, if there was a plot to this at all, I missed it.
I was kind of hoping the video would give more context to the songโsheโs normally very good with that without totally giving it awayโbut yeah I still have no idea what sheโs singing about beyond some very generic life is hard but it goes on metaphor. The blades literally raining down on her was a little too in your face, sheโs usually more nuanced than that.

Hard to know what to expect from a major event collab like this but I love the song and video. Video helps the song IMO. Grew on me during the second listen a lot. Has me very excited for next week!

I really like this more after watching the music video. I like the darker colors (especially in the beginning of the video) and they look great.

The video is STUNNING and somehow makes the song feel longer.
Though that hug as the last shot was awkward, like don't let go till they call CUT awkward

Wow! This is hot. I'm not good at predictions , but I can see this being a nice hit if they play it right.

I loved the music video, visually really nice and pretty, the costume design looks great, and they both did choreo Everything we needed
I had a feeling I'd be sold on the song with the music video, my hunch was correct BOP

This is alright. I don't find it as catchy as Stupid Love and for some reason the leak for this sounded better than the actual song.

The Fame Monster set the bar for what art direction can be, but this is a great and cohesive look.

sheโs usually more nuanced than that. Gaga? Nuanced? When? Did that happen when she wore a meat dress, swallowed a crucifix, got stoned to death, vomited onstage or hung herself covered with blood? I can't recall.

I can't recall. And I canโt recall reading a post of yours that wasnโt needlessly visceral. You can disagree with someone without insulting their intelligence, or you know, just ask for clarification like a normal person. Now that thatโs out of the way, I should clarify that I was only referring to her videos, more specifically her use of metaphor and reference to art, film, and social/pop culture. Thereโs at the very least a point, or deeper meaning, behind her s**t even if itโs OTT, but I couldnโt find anything short of a cheesy metaphor here. Hope thatโs sufficient for you.

My post was intended as sarcasm, but okay. I feel like Gaga has always been upfront and explicit (and most of the time downright heavy-handed) with her themes and imagery. This is right on brand IMO.

I hope they didn't pay full price for this ad since Times Square might not be packed like usual right now:

It definitely did not read that way to me based on other posts Iโve seen from you. Apologies if I misread. Still, I disagree. Her imagery is usually loud but rarely lacks depth. โAlejandroโ for example is pretty easy to follow, but just because thereโs shock value doesnโt mean there isnโt a lot under the surface to unpack (and Iโm saying this as someone who hates the video and finds it needlessly tacky). Her swallowing the rosary could be seen several different ways, from metaphorical consumption of religion to literally being closer to God, among other things. Then youโve got videos like โBorn this Wayโ, โApplauseโ, and โBad Romanceโ (Edit: not sure why I said recently there lol) that border on nonsense without some level of unpacking.

The video is not my cup of tea. But it looks like their fanbases are very happy with it so good for them.

So I like the song...less after watching the video? Idk, I'm going to attribute some of this to the realities of quarantine and not being able to execute to the fullest, but the video falls very flat for me. The choreography is meh, and the cool concept of them "becoming each other" is ultimately without impact as they are made to look too similar to matter if they added or subtracted a hair tie.
As for the song, it's fine. There are parts that I like (the way the production stops and swells around Gaga chanting "RAIN. ON. ME." is my favorite part). It doesn't feel like it needs to be a duet, which is where I think a lot of these pop diva duets fall short.
"Stupid Love" was no less dated, but it was more fun and catchy to me.

I like the music video, it was a fun little video with good aesthetics and choreography. I actually like this more than Stupid Love (which took a few listen for me to warm up to). Rain On Me was more instant and it might be my favorite Gaga song since TEOG.

I hate when Gaga does "spoken voice" on her songs. I guess this was something that started with her around TFM with "Dance in the Dark" If I can recall correctly. It was cool then. But then it got carried away on the BTW album and that's where it kind of crossed into camp and tacky. Bringing that side of her back in full force is not my favorite memory of peak Gaga.
Anyway I'll make my final prediction of this song now that the full product is out. I think it will debut in the top 10 on the hot 100 and maybe be in the top 10 for a few weeks, but I don't think it will have longevity in streaming or in airplay. This will be flatlined by late June. I can see it peak right outside the top 10 on CHR/POP and Hot AC.
