Taylor turned her back on country. Last time I saw her not one song from then. Terrible way to treat longtime fans. I'm curious when the last time you saw her was? Throughout her last tour--during the reputation era--Taylor performed "Love Story," "You Belong With Me," "Our Song," "All Too Well," "Should've Said No," and "Long Live." That's definitely a bit shorter than say having a bit more 50/50 diversity in the setlist between her pop and country music, but she definitely didn't ignore her country era during the last tour. 2013, which was only one album into her pop career. I just looked at the setlist and she did Sparks Fly and Love Story but they were not country versions at all. There was no excuse not to do most of her country hits. Only went because my buddy's wife couldn't go last minute. One of the worst shows I've ever paid to go to. Well actually I enjoyed Ed Sheeran having only known one of his songs going into it.

I honestly don’t see Taylor Swift leaving the country genre as an abandonment. The way she did it was extremely respectful and it’s clear that she still has enormous respect for country music. In fact didn’t she refuse when Big Machine wanted to “add a fiddle” to “Shake It Off” and send it to country radio?

To take the few country songs she did and make them pop and ignore the songs that got here career started was just terrible.

bboat11 is NOT gonna like where I put Martina :kii: Gurl you named yourself after Lady Antebellum! Not to mention you talk about Trisha and Faith like they are as old and obscure as Tammy Wynette and George Jones. I don’t have a whole lot of faith left in your taste 😂

Taylor going out at #13 I’m glad Alan Jackson is out cause that leaves me with only one artist that doesn’t impress me much. I’m surprised Kacey and Taylor are below Brad Paisley but it’s okay cause I like him.

I think Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Loretta Lynn and Kacey Musgraves miss the Top 10. WOW. #psychic

Kacey Musgraves - I really like and respect her as an artist, but I can see where many would think she is too high on this rankdown. Only three albums in and really only one radio hit (says more about radio than her) but her last era was iconic and took home Album of The Year at the Grammys, which is really rare for a Country artist. I ranked her as high as I did as a combo of her talent & what I think this era springboarded her into going forward.
Loretta Lynn - Just a little bit too before my time. Much respect, but I couldn't rank her as high as some others.
Taylor Swift - LOVE her, obviously, but I am good with where she went out. Had she never swapped over to pop and blessed us with pop perfection, I think she would have ended up much higher. Even so, she is going to go down as one of the best country songwriters of all time. You don't have to like her voice or look to respect her craft.
Brad Paisley - Perfect spot for him. He had a 6-7 year stint where he was THE MAN in the industry, but he also had a tendency to kinda sound the same after a while. Hilarious and a great host, he deserves his ranking.
Alan Jackson - He is in a good spot. Another one of the genre's best songwriters.

Taylor Swift at #13, how fitting lol She was my introduction to country music - especially for someone who lived in a place where country music isn't a thing (basically outside of the US and a couple other countries) I would not have discovered amazing artists and songs without her! Her impact.

Also for Kacey, she clearly is an icon for many LGBTs for good reasons.

If you think Loretta Lynn's music is too old, just listen to Van Lear Rose. The collab with Jack White as a producer really brings a fresh yet still traditional sound to her. Excellent late-career album. Also, first female EOTY and symbol of "tough women" from a lot of her songs...She should have been top 10!
Even though most of Taylor Swift catalog is country pop (still more country than current "country pop"), she really writes some great songs (State of Grace is perfect opener of Red for example) at a young age, so good that her haters that yelled "not country" in the past now claim missing her in country music.

Oh my God, Taylor is at #13 on this list and she's out of the race and that's that. If you don't like her anymore for whatever reason then just don't listen to her, simple as that.

Not only does Tim McGraw has one of my favorite country songs of all time ("Live Like You Were Dying"), his run from the late 90s to the early 2000s was just pure consistency ("Grown Men Don't Cry" was a blip but except that song) and he's made music that I enjoy all the way back from the mid-90s to "Thought About You" from last year. His long list of songs I love (singles + album tracks) combined with his ability to put out great songs with some consistency for a long time (there are major blips though...) made me put him in the top 5. bboat11 likes to talk about his influence on me regarding Martina, but Tim McGraw is actually one of the artists I've come to like a lot more because of him (his singles RD was the start).

Oh, good! Tim McGraw was the glaringly obvious blemish for me in the top 10.

Tim McGraw is an artist I generally like, but on a song by song basis. He first broke out in the mid '90s with a pair of huge hits in "Indian Outlaw" (which has questionable lyrics, to say the least) and "Don't Take the Girl" (which is excellent). He remained a superstar through the 2000s but faltered a bit later in the decade due to poor management decisions by Curb (f**k them, btw!). He finally got away from them in 2011 (or 2012? idk) and experienced a huge career resurgence, earning his biggest hit in years with "Highway Don't Care". Unfortunately it looks like he's starting to wind down at country radio, which is a shame but you can't release terrible lead singles and get away with it forever... ClevelandRox loses his #2 and quite a few others had Timmy in the top 20.

Tim might be my favorite male artist! He always had a knack for selecting the best songs and being a real albums artist. I love so many of his albums.
