Maybe let her actual fans talk It's good to know I don't have a right to my opinion. So I'm kind of late to this discussion but I think that is a valid opinion to have - I was fortunate enough to listen to a lot of pop and country and was invested in her whatever direction she went (and she's obviously successful in pop music and she's made some of her best songs ever since then like "Style") but not everyone is invested in her like that. I would respectfully disagree with her "turning her back on country" and that it's a "terrible way to treat longtime fans" (the points other posters have mentioned above and such) but it's definitely true that her focus has been pop for a while now and that just might not be what everyone wants from her especially with a big shift in a musical direction like that.

Leaving at #9 tonight is Carrie Underwood. Carrie is the only country artist to debut at #1 on the Hot 100 and that's due to her status as the Season 4 winner of American Idol. To be honest I often forget she's a former contestant because of just how massively successful she has become in the 15 years since May 25, 2005. With the winning song, "Inside Your Heaven," Carrie also became the only solo country artist of the 2000s to score a #1 on the Hot 100. She is one of the few country artists to ever win the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, thanks to the massive success of her debut album Some Hearts, which became the top country album of the 2000s, the best selling solo female debut album in country music history, the best selling country album of the last 17 years, and the fastest-selling debut country album in Nielsen SoundScan history. Every single album of hers, including her Greatest Hits compilation, has debuted at #1; four of those albums have topped the Billboard 200 chart, Cry Pretty has given her the distinction of being the first country woman to achieve this feat. Carrie is the fifth highest certified female artist on the RIAA, the highest-certified country artist to debut in the 21st century. She is the woman with the most Billboard Country Airplay #1s, at 15. She is the winner of seven Grammys, 11 Billboard Music Awards, 15 AMAs, 14 ACMs, and nine CMAs. And she was robbed by Garth Brooks twice for EOTY at the CMAs. Among her signature hits are "Jesus, Take The Wheel," "Before He Cheats," "Just a Dream," "Something in the Water," "Two Black Cadillacs," and "Blown Away." With her departure, carriefan15 and I (the two hardcore stans that did this RD) lose our #1, along with a few Top 10s and a slew of Top 20s. Her lowest ranking wasn't even in the bottom 5.

I was about to go on another tangent as to why I ranked Carrie #1...but didn't wanna be too personal on the official account. When I can, I'll explain it but for now I'll give the flame back to lady𝓐fan and work on my next reveals.

#late to the Taylor discussion but I think she is much better suited for pop instead of country. And I don't mean that as an insult at all lol. I still love her debut country album to this day, but overall I find her pop music to be better than her country catalog and I think the slicker, more produced style pop has suits her voice better.
Also, LOVE Carrie! I actually wasn't a big fan of her until "Before He Cheats" tho to be completely honest... that is when my opinion of her started to turn favorable!

Miranda *just* snuck ahead of Carrie by 2 points, which I'm pretty surprised by considering the size of Carrie's following on Pulse. She first broke out in the mid 2000s with her rock-infused country filled to the brim with the 'tude. After a few years of moderate chart success, the back to back success of "White Liar" and "The House That Built Me" built her into the A-lister that she is, though she didn't enjoy that status for long... Country radio started to give her the cold shoulder in 2014 and while she's still getting played (and has a pretty big hit out right now, "Bluebird"), it pales in comparison to her omnipresence from 2010-2014. .indulgecountry and Sambalada lose a #2.

Shania Twain might've been THE star of the '90s (sorry not sorry Garth). She wasn't exactly a powerhouse at country radio, but she scored countless crossover hits and managed to reach the masses in a way most country artists could not. So many artists nowadays list Shania as one of their influences (including Lady A ) and she remains well-known and beloved by the public even today. Just watch her 2019 AMA performance and you'll see! austin loses a #1 and there were only 2 bottom 10 ranks!

Kinda surprised Carrie wasn’t #1. I feel like everyone on here likes her. May the best artist win!

I’ve always liked Martina. Can’t believe I ranked her so low. Guess that’s what happens when you like everyone! Couldn’t you have put Aldean in this or something so I could have people at the bottom I don’t really care for....
Anyway, I wanna say Dolly wins this for some reason.

TOP FIVE.
I really, really hope Martina eventually gets a spot in the HOF. When i think of an iconic, successful female that made it though multiple eras of country music I think of her. She always held herself with such poise, and is very loved by most. No rank in the bottom 10 here show that.

Sorry bboat I ranked Martina at #13 which is still high I hope lol
So it's Reba, Dolly, George, Sara, and Dixie Chicks? I would hope the top 3 is Reba, Dolly, and George - they are all ICONIC on a different level than Sara Evans or Dixie Chicks. I feel like I say "Sara/*insert Sara song* needs to leave" way too often, probably because while I really like Sara I seem to be less in love with her than a big chunk of the Pulse country crowd.

Missing the Top 5 by 26 points is the Céline Dion of Country Music, Martina McBride. She is known as country's Céline because Kelly Coffey, who sounds more than identical to Céline unlike Martina, never made it big in country music due to her soprano vocal range. She originally had a neo-traditional sound with her debut album, but switched to country pop in literally the next era. She has scored six #1 singles on Billboard, one of them an AC hit and the others country hits. Martina has been awarded the ACM Top Female Vocalist award three times and the CMA Female Vocalist of the Year award four times, which is part of a tie with Reba McEntire for the second most wins. She is also a 14-time Grammy Award nominee...and she has a new song coming out in the next few weeks, as part of the current season of the NBC show Songland! Among her biggest hits are "Independence Day," "I Love You," "This One's for the Girls," "A Broken Wing," "Blessed," "Wild Angels," and "My Baby Loves Me." With Martina's departure, castleoblivion26 and Pulse's Resident Martina Expert bboat11 lose their #1 artist, along with 15 Top 20 ranks...that's a total of 17 Top 20 ranks...nearly the entire participant list! In fact, Martina never received a Top 30 rank! (One of those Top 20s is a #13 rank by feary...which miss boaty STRICTLY warned would not go over well! )

I feel like ‘Anyway’ is my favorite Martina song. I’m not familiar with all her stuff but that one is great.
Miranda’s best is ‘The House That Built Me’. I know it’s everyone’s fave but oh well.
Carrie’s best IMO is “So Small”, “Good Girl” or “Before He Cheats”. Her current single is actually up there for me as well.
My fave from Tim is probably “Where The Green Grass Grows”, “Something Like That” or “Its A Business...”
My fave Shania is “That Don’t Impress Me Much”.
