Ugh, the title track and "Why We Said Goodbye" have NO business being out already. I loved diving into this album but all my faves are doing so poorly. :'( And it needs to say bye! Definitely the worst single song on this stellar record.

I love "Set This Circus Down." I don't know why, but it has always been a favorite!
Also, "Unbroken" is great! Your cold words about it should remain unspoken.

Playing catch up...sad I missed Two Lanes Of Freedom and Set This Circus Down (my favorite Tim album!).
My list for Two Lanes had I had time to participate:
01. Nashville Without You 02. Annie I Owe You A Dance 03. Book Of John 04. Number 37405 05. Two Lanes Of Freedom 06. Friend Of A Friend 07. One Of Those Nights 08. Tinted Windows 09. Highway Don't Care 10. Southern Girl 11. Let Me Love It Out Of You 12. Mexicoma 13. It's Your World 14. Truck Yeah
So I would've had the bottom 5 as perfect ranks at least! HDC is overrated but I don't hate it. Really was hoping one of the amazing album tracks would've taken the win though!
Before I look at the results of STCD I'm gonna post my list.
01. Angry All The Time 02. Why We Said Goodbye 03. Telluride 04. Angel Boy 05. Things Change 06. The Cowboy In Me 07. Smilin' 08. Unbroken 09. Let Me Love You 10. You Get Used To Somebody 11. Grown Men Don't Cry 12. Set This Circus Down 13. Take Me Away From Here 14. Forget About Us

Wow "Why We Said Goodbye" shouldn't be out anywhere in the bottom half of this album! Such an amazing song :(

An album tracks rankdown will already be 75 76 songs, but I think since this tied it should be included in it! Lmao does that include songs from his new album that is about to come out? ;) It does, I'm planning ahead.

"Things Change" is a fantastic song! I love Tim's vocal performance on this song, particularly when he sings the line about bringing a little poetry to the honkytonks and bars Sounds like it could have been a huge hit! Whether this song was a direct blow to "Murder On Music Row" or not, I can personally enjoy the sentiment of both. Both songs are correct, lol. Besides, Tim has a LOT of respect for George and Alan, and I find it very hard to believe that he would actively go out of his way to try to piss them off

What is this thing you guys keep going on about? Was Murder On Music Row a song? Why is it significant? And I read some others involving Faith Hill and Shania... could someone explain a little bit of that here? :)

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not alone in not liking "Things Change" at all. It was horrible! The chanting of 'things change' in the background was nauseating! So glad this is finally out.

Coming in 7th place is Angel Boy! As fearlessarrow mentioned in predictions that he can see the chorus be a turnoff to some people, I completely can see that too. We lose three more last place's and it was the second most polarizing song of the rankdown (by .01th a point from the most). I've always loved this song, I remember Christmas Eve 2001 on our drive to South Texas I just listened to it on repeat on my portable CD player. 🎄 I think it was possibly going to be the first or second single as it was on the album sticker and had a video made that was burned off as a video single between Angry All The Time and The Cowboy in Me's singles runs.

And I read some others involving Faith Hill and Shania... could someone explain a little bit of that here? "Murder On Music Row" is a song that George Strait/Alan Jackson recorded together in the early 00s. Here is the performance of them singing it at the CMAs. The song is essentially about how country music has been murdered. Somebody cut out its heart and soul and replaced it with loud guitars and heavy drums, and all the greats like George Jones, Merle Haggard, etc. are no longer welcome in the genre. I did not know this until reading this thread, but apparently there have been rumors that the song is being critical of people like Shania and Faith who were really starting to bring pop into country at the time. George and Alan performed it at the CMAs, and ended up winning Vocal Event of the Year I believe! And then Tim performed "Things Change"... This song was not a single or anything at the time, so why did he sing it? Surely he had a current hit that could have been performed instead? People interpreted it to be a response to "Murder On Music Row", essentially telling the two older guys to get over it because things change. That's my basic understanding of the "controversy". George always played "Murder On Music Row" off as a joke, and has had a great relationship with Tim and Faith through the years, so I personally doubt that they were actually jabbing at each other here, and the media/crazy stans probably blew it out of proportion, lol. Alan took the song a little more seriously though, so I don't know where he fits into the picture.

Yay, I have always loved "Angel Boy", and am super impressed by how well it was able to do here! This song may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I think it has a really neat, dark vibe to it despite also being uptempo. It's almost like a B-side to "Unbroken" in that regard, which I also love. Other than those two songs, it's not a sound that Tim has ever really revisited again, but I really dig it!

FINALLY! Sorry ClevelandRox but "Angel Boy" just happened to be the one song on this album I quite disliked.

Alan took the song a little more seriously though, so I don't know where he fits into the picture. I think that Tim McGraw specifically wanted to sing "Things Change" in direct response to the song "Murder on Music Row", but that decision had little if anything to do with the fact that it was sung by George and Alan. I took it as a more direct shot to the message behind the song and its songwriters Larry Cordle and Larry Shell. Alan and George did win Vocal Event of the Year in 2000 (remember when they used to actually show this award live!) and the song was nominated for Song of the Year but lost to "I Hope You Dance". The song was nominated again in 2001 in the same category and ended up winning that year.

It's okay, there are a lot of wrong opinions out there in the world... I'm actually surprised by the amount of support "Angel Boy" received here and I wouldn't have guessed it to even make it this far. The song is very busy, loud, and just all over the place. I really wanted to just skip over the entire song, but alas I made it through somehow. Needless to say I'm fine with never hearing that noise again.

I actually said it may not be Faith-centered, but that her vocals are straight fire and completely alter the listening experience of the song. A wrong opinion with regards to this subject would be somebody saying that they "literally had to strain to hear Faith's vocals"
