Live Like You Were Dying is a strong album that I never really visit much because I wasn't a big fan of the overplayed title track. It'll be nice to revisit most of it.

Don't know if this helps, but the title track is starting to grow back on me again after suffering a few personal losses in my life...  Heck, I may just give the album a spin for old times' sake. EDIT: Oh, I need to comment on the album we just finished up.  I'm gonna get a lot of rotten tomatoes thrown at me for this, but I'm glad we got Not A Moment Too Soon out of the way as it's actually an album that I don't revisit much outside of maybe a single or two and perhaps "Wouldn't Want It Any Other Way". I knew my #1 ("Refried Dreams") wouldn't do all that great, but I'm more surprised to see that "Down on the Farm" fizzled out quicker than expected at #3. Also pleasantly surprised to see "Don't Take the Girl" not have as many 'tankers' as I anticipated and the title track not be polarizing enough to win this whole thing. Consider me impressed!  |

I probably have said somewhere that "Live Like You Were Dying" is one of my favorite country songs of all-time (and I wasn't subjected to overplay either since I didn't listen to country radio nor did I even know about country music back when that song was big and for a while after that too) so you know where I'll most likely rank the title track when the Live Like You Were Dying album rankdown comes around!

Oh thank goodness @ "Don't Take the Girl" not winning this. I was sure it would. I'm glad I wasn't the only one on the island with my #10 rank, lmao. The title track is meh so I'm not exactly thrilled with that as a winner either (RIP "Down on the Farm" </3 ) but "Girl" is such a comically whiny song. The nasally way he sings it just grates on me and I've grown to dislike it more and more as time has gone on. It's such an out-of-character vocal performance from him because he never really sounded like that on any other song. I also think the lyrics are a little corny, but the vocal is definitely what takes me out of enjoying the song the most.

This album is such a blast of nostalgia for me. It was my mom's favorite album when i was growing up and we probably listened to it 100's of times. It's hard to argue that it's a dated album and Tim definitely dials up the twang too much on some songs, but I still love it all. Happy to see the proper song win it. "Not A Moment Too Soon" certainly wasn't the biggest hit from the album, but I think it's held up the best over the years. I initially loved "Don't Take The Girl", then went through a fairly long phase of hating it, but can now appreciate again (though the syrupy lyrics meant #7 was as high as I could place it). Tim's had some great album cuts over the years ("Train #10", "Blank Sheet Of Paper" to name a few), but "Ain't That Just Like a Dream" is my favorite. Such a terrific melody, and one of the few songs on the album that could have carried over to All I Want. I had it on my list for the Favorite Album Cuts rankdown from a few years ago, but it was too far down to make the cut. Too bad it fell just short of the top 5 here.

Other than that I'd say that this isn't either my favorite or least favorite album from Tim and would probably fall somewhere in the middle of the pack, but there are some high points. Also, as I've mentioned before I am just not a fan of albums that have this many songs on them as everything kind of starts to run together at some point and I really wish they had probably just trimmed it back by three or four songs.
