Lmao yep, I stand by my description of this song! It is soooooo deliciously sinister! This song is just perfect. The guitar work and chord progression are all so sinister, and the way the story unfolds you don't really see why right away. It leads you to think that Jessy is just having a hard day and misses her friend, and then the next verse makes you realize that Jessy is having such a hard time because her man is cheating on her, and you think she needs the support of her friend.... But then it turns out it IS the friend, and Jessy knows, and next thing you know we have a good old-fashioned murder/suicide by train on our hands!!! It's so deliciously Reba-esque, and I get goosebumps every time. SO glad it managed to make the top 4 despite some of the flawed individuals who can no longer claim to have taste.

Well that's...rare! Thank goodness this leaves next because I don't see the appeal of this song at all. Lyrically there's not much to the subject matter that draws me in and there's absolutely no melody help with that. So, yea this was an easy last place for me. Only a true FLOP could listen to a best friend cheating scandal leading to a murder suicide and say "Nah, there's just nothing here lyrically"

I feel like with the story it should have grabbed me more. Something didn't click for me so I can see why others wouldn't care for it either. Maybe it'll grow on me as it wasn't my least favorite for sure but it definitely should not be in the Top 4 imo.

We lose our last single of the album at the top three! Unlike the other two that started to get slammed halfway thru submissions, Still only received 2 bottom five rankings. I wish Still was treated better by country radio, it deserved a top ten finish at the least. Two lose their favorite song off the album!

"Still" is underrated. I think people find it to be overly bombastic, like Blake's "Over". But this melody and arrangement are so engaging to me! Now, this is an AMAZING top 2!!!! I am so happy to see these two stellar songs battling at the top!!! This album draws nearly 100% of its strength from its album tracks, and these are the two kingpins of that department. Whatever the outcome ends up being, we got it right Edit: I'm hoping for "Love You Goodbye", but will not be disappointed either way.

Am I really about to lose two songs that I placed at #1 back-to-back?!? Ugh!

As I mentioned earlier, this is a rather underwhelming album overall and “Still” is about the only song I ever find myself revisiting from it. Glad that it was able to at least make the top 3.

Not as immediately as you might have been fearing!!!! ;) As I mentioned earlier, this is a rather underwhelming album overall and “Still” is about the only song I ever find myself revisiting from it. Glad that it was able to at least make the top 3. See, this is just so weird to me. This one is easily in my top 2 albums we have ranked from him so far. Probably just behind Set This Circus Down, 'cause that one has good hits which gives it the edge.

And You Had to be There wins it all! With half the participants putting it as their #1, it finishes almost twenty points higher than Love You Goodbye. Both are such powerful songs! I'm gonna start with Love You Goodbye which is my absolute favorite Tim song and I was nervous for this rankdown just for it not even making the album tracks rankdown. Well kid, you made Revenge of the Best. 🥰 I'm estranged from my father ever since I came out so I always relate this song to my life and the fact that they make amends near the end makes me cry everytime. This song means so much to me and more. I want to call my dad every Father's Day, but always chicken out. You Had to be There. What an incredibly unique subject matter to make one hell of a powerful song! The part about Day 1 should be the only time a father should have to see his son through glass gives me chills everytime! Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not as positive as I am with Blank Sheet of Paper and the Train #10, but wasn't this in contention as the original first single?

Would’ve of course preferred to see “Love You Goodbye” win as it was in my top 3, but alas this has been one of the most unexpected album rankdowns in recent memory so I really had no idea what song was a contender for winning. Thanks again, ClevelandRox , and I’m looking forward to what album you have planned for us next!

Tbh, BOTH of these songs have almost made me cry at various points in the last couple days. Both are emotional masterpieces, for different reasons. The lyrics are so hard-hitting, and Tim's vocals deliver both messages flawlessly.
For me "Love You Goodbye" is an emotional journey, with the sadness coming from the lines throughout the middle like when he is leaving his mom, whereas "You Had To Be There" hits all at once with the final line of the song, when it is revealed that the dad is dying and that's why he came to make amends with his son after all those years... Heavy stuff! I really have come to appreciate Tim's artistry more thanks to songs like these.

Yes, the correct song won!!! Good retribution after this rankdown was an up-and-down mess for me. That final twist at the end was Reba-esque and really floored me. Thanks for hosting ClevelandRox and looking forward to what's next

I LOVE "Love You Goodbye". I remember hearing it on shuffle years ago and loving it then so it was actually the only album track I was familiar with going into this album as I never listened to it previously.
"You Had To Be There" is so good though and it is a real shame that it was never released as it was initially supposed to be the first single. I remember Tim announcing it as his next single before "Let It Go" and "Nothin' To Die For" were released or around that time anyways. It was all a mess at that time.

Same here. Still can't believe that one mess of a song from the last album. Of songs I've heard, Faith Hill's "Why" is the only one that deals with the topic that I like. In fact, I adore it. It's personally very relatable; and it's tastefully done imo, describing the anguish of feeling as if you could've done something more to help.

You nailed it. “Why” is one of the few songs about the subject matter that I can listen to as it’s done in such a manner that I’m able to sit through.. It just hits way too close to home for me that for the most part songs about suicide are an immediate turn off.

ClevelandRox - do you know what album we will do next? It has been good to get into his music more. Also, thanks for having me re-listen to “Love You Goodbye”.

Perfect top 2! Both of those songs are immaculate and the perfect finish to a ranking of one of the greatest albums Tim ever released. Very happy this was a time when the album tracks were allowed to shine as they should because they far outweigh the singles they chose from the project, and that's probably why people frequently overlook the record despite it being so much better than many of his others that had more success.

Thanks ClevelandRox for a great rankdown. Four of the top five were album tracks, wonder if that has happened before. Glad to see the singles bias didn't hold true here. Some great untapped singles here and You Had To Be There is still my #1 country song a decade+ after it was released. What an incredibly powerful tune. Love You Goodbye is equally a great tune as are so many others on this album. Looking forward to the next one!

This should be fun since I only know 1 of these songs. Listening to the album now. I don’t listen to 90’s music a whole lot unless I am listening to songs that I love and usually they are tunes that were hits.
