Just missing the Top 5 is yet another collaboration, this one with Lionel Richie on "Endless Love." This song was first a duet between Richie and Diana Ross in 1992. A few years later, a cover version was released starring Luther Vandross and Mariah Carey; this was considered to be Carey's first high-profile collaboration with another artist. In 2011, Lionel returned to the song, this time with Shania Twain. This was around the same time as "Today Is Your Day" had been released and during the time of her series Why Not? with Shania Twain was airing. The recording process for "Endless Love" was documented in the finale episode of the eight episode miniseries.
This song is incredible! This is definitely another one of Shania's most incredible vocals on record. Her voice blends so well with Lionel Richie's and I'm so pumped to see it do so well here!

Well, well, well! Despite everyone predicting "Party For Two" would be a good candidate to take this whole thing, it kicks off our Top 5!! It has the most #1 rankings of any other song in this rankdown, but tim and I managed to offset that by correctly giving it last place rankings. I don't know what y'all hear in this song. Even as a kid, I never liked it. Then again, it's maybe cause I'm a hermit and don't go to parties (or didn't before the pandemic) despite wanting to, lol. Who knows, all I know is this song is trash to me.

I’m lowkey shocked that “Legends Never Die” is still in, unless of course that is what tied with “Coat of Many Colors”. I just don’t remember it receiving a ton of support in the new releases rankdown it was featured in not too long ago.

Now I KNOW we all know the legendary icon that is Dolly Parton! "Coat of Many Colors" is one of her biggest hits, with a timeless message about enjoying the little things in life. It was recorded as a cover in 2003 with background accompaniment from Alison Krauss & Union Station, as part of the tribute album Just Because I'm A Woman: Songs of Dolly Parton. That album also includes covers of various Dolly songs from artists such as Melissa Etheridge, Norah Jones, and Emmylou Harris; it also includes a then-new recording of the title track from Dolly herself!
This song is among my favorites of all time (obviously); and it's really hard to get me to enjoy any cover of it quite as much as I do Dolly's. She is not to be touched!! However, Shania turns in a great effort here and Alison turns in wonderful background vocals, sounding eerily similar to Dolly at times!

I can't seem to find them in any of the recent New Releases rankdowns, but it was most recently featured in my personal rankdown of my Top 50 songs of 2020! It ended up at #37 in that rankdown, so it has definitely improved in this rankdown!

I keep my cool, play by all the rules Hmm, I swear ten minutes ago that bottle was full But I won't cry, about love gone wrong 'Cause tears would water down, this ruby red, I'm sipping on
There's a hole in the bottle (There's a hole), leaking all this wine (Leaking all this wine) It's already empty and it ain't even supper time (And it ain't even supper time) Honey, no, I don't miss him In fact, it slipped my mind There's a hole in the bottle of wine
Let's go Alright Look, it's our prerogative Haha, to have a little fun? Right?

Taking home the bronze and winning the tie is "hole in the bottle"!! This song is a track on Kelsea Ballerini's self-titled third studio album from 2020. It is her most recent #1 smash, and during its chart run, a remix was released that radio stations had the option of putting into rotation. This is where Shania came in, and she offers a lot to the song imo! It's not terrible without her obviously, but I mean to say that she just adds to the fun of the song! I especially love their banter during the instrumental break after the second chorus, in which they reference Shania's smash hit "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" Kelsea herself has consistently been a juggernaut in rankdowns when she brings this song to the game to represent herself with, and her performance with Shania here adds to that consistent and impressive resumé! PS. This has the smaller standard deviation, which is what broke the tie with COMC. Since both songs only had one #1 placement, that was the next best tie-breaker imo.

Shania's Greatest Hits single "Don't!" comes out on top, just two points ahead of "Legends Never Die," which proves just how wild this rankdown really was! Don't let my ranking fool you--I love the winner! I just don't too often revisit some of the songs that were in the lower part of my Top 10. I also love "Legends Never Die" and I'm really glad to know that it will be featured in a future set of Revenge of the Best! Thanks for following along y'all, and thanks for waiting for a month for these reveals to happen. That's officially a WRAP on the Shania Twain Album Series!!! Thank you all for participating in these rankdowns; I have had an exponential amount of fun listening to her albums and ranking them with you over the past year. It was a really fun way to try and get through and escape the madness that was the pandemic! Stay tuned for the Shania Twain Album Tracks rankdown, which will be coming later on this fall! ;)

I thought Legends Never Die was the best Shania sounded in years. I'm really looking forward to see how much her voice has changed from the album Now to her new album (which I will really be annoyed about if it doesn't come by the end of the year).
Thanks for hosting Taylor!

The best version of "Endless Love" is hands down Sara Evans and Mark Anthony's live duet from that televised concert honoring Lionel Richie. I mean, you can take or leave Mark, but Sara's voice is out of this world PERFECT for the song. She's got the powerful high range that Shania doesn't have, which really allows her to turn up the heat as the song progresses. I have always been a little confused that Shania got to record the studio version for Lionel's Tuskegee album, while Sara got asked to sing it live at pretty much the exact same time... I mean, I'm sure the simple answer is that they were just two completely separate events, lol. But it still just felt odd that he re-recorded the studio version with Shania, and then they brought out Sara to sing it live while the album featuring Shania was literally brand new.
Of course Shania knocked this out of the park as well! Which shocked me, because didn't this come right in the middle of the period where she couldn't sing??! This is a HARD song, which forces her into the top of her range and keeps her there for longer than any of her own material ever did. And she completely nailed it! My only complaint is that this studio version feels kinda sterile, like everything is so smoothed out and polished that you can't even tell if there's any chemistry between the two vocalists.

I'm glad that "Don't" was able to come out on top for the win, but yea that was a photofinish victory and much closer than I would've expected it to be. "Legends Never Die" proved to be a solid contender and garnered much more support than I would've guessed, but I have to admit that it would've felt a bit out of place as winner for this particular rankdown. I've always personally liked "Don't" and for whatever reason it takes me back in time to the winter of 2004/2005. I just remember putting it on during that time and still remain disappointed by its chart performance, although it wasn't exactly the most radio friendly song to begin with. There wasn't any other song here that I even considered putting at the top of my list, so I'm just glad that a handful others appreciate as much as myself. I do get why others may not particularly like the production or vocal arrangement of this, though, and I must admit in hindsight Shania's vocal issues were actually noticeable here. Thanks again taylor!

Queen of Me (2023)
I have received permission from taylor to host the Queen of Me album rankdown. I will try to do this as close as they have just to make it easier (with my flair, of course). If you have ever saw me around here, you would know that Shania is my #1 artist and so I am extremely excited to be able to host this! I have recently hosted the Lindsay Lohan album series and am excited to branch out even more. Are you ready? Let's Go, (girls)!
Shania revealed she underwent a laryngoplasty (implants were inserted near her vocal chords) in early 2018 to strengthen her voice which suffered damage after a battle with Lyme's Disease near the end of her Up! Tour. She embarked on the Let's Go! Residency in 2019 which was halted during the pandemic and resumed before finishing in 2022. The Queen of Me album is her first one since her vocal surgery. Twain also revealed she suffered from COVID-19 pneumonia during the height of the pandemic which inspired album track "Inhale/Exhale AIR".
The Queen of Me album is Twain's first album since her 1993 self-titled debut album that featured co-writers other than her ex-husband Robert "Mutt" Lange. Twain wrote the entirely of Now alone. Some of the writers on Queen of Me include Twain's son Eja Lange on "Number One" and Twenty One Pilot's Tyler Joseph on "The Hardest Stone".
We will be ranking the Royal Edition of the album and the two Target bonus tracks which have been available on Youtube since album release. Please rank them #1 (favorite) to #19 (least favorite) and send them to me by July 7th. That should be enough time but I will provide an extension if need be.
Song List: (runtime 56:45)
"Giddy Up" "Brand New" "Waking Up Dreaming" "Best Friend" "Pretty Liar"
"Inhale/Exhale AIR" "Last Day of Summer" "Queen of Me" "Got It Good" "Number One" "Not Just a Girl" "The Hardest Stone" "On Three" "Done & Dusted" "Bone Dry" "Wanted Man" "Inhale/Exhale AIR" featuring Breland "Queen of Me" (acoustic)
"Giddy Up" (Malibu Babie remix)
Please rank all 19 tracks, including the "Inhale/Exhale AIR" Breland feature, the acoustic version of "Queen of Me" and the remix of "Giddy Up!"
Due: Friday, July 7
