The bottom three songs in this competition turned out to be the only three songs with point totals exceeding 200, so we were just about set in agreement on them. The next song escaped last-place status by just six points!!

We've slammed every door in anger And we've opened wounds we can't mend And one night lonely is one night too many Don't want to wake up to one more night that won't end.
So slow down your horses Stop draggin' me around And if cryin' is the only way into your heart

The next ballad to leave us is the next song to leave us. Leaving really was the only way out for this album's only Shania solo write, as nearly all of us put it in our bottom half, including six correct placements. codyj100 does lose his #3 here, though. Sorry to you! Similar to "Raining on Our Love," I find this song to be a bit too slow which makes it a weak leak among such a stellar list of songs. This also is one song, however, that I never have a desire to seek out and revisit. This little ballad also started out strong as a Top 10 contender, before eventually being pushed out. That didn't mean it didn't try to get back in the Top 10, tho! In fact, it managed to do so once again...until the final list pushed it right back to #11. The song it was fighting with has the blessing of being in the Top 10! ;)

Well, I got the bottom two right when wondering what would end up #12. I just go on instinct that ballads always go first, and these were the weakest of the ballads on this album for sure.

This boy is hungry, he ain't got enough to eat That girl's cold and she ain't got no shoes on her feet
When a child's spirit's broken And feels all hope is gone God help them find the strength to carry on
But with hope and faith Yea, we can understand All God's children need is love

Wow, had no idea "God Bless the Child" was so disliked, lol. I get that it's not for everyone, and normally songs like these aren't my cup of tea, but I think it's really pretty.

Nah, the other two ballads that placed below it were worse, lol. The slower songs on this album were generally the weak points, imo, but I loved "GBTC."

Kicking off the Top 10 is the first single to leave us! "God Bless the Child" was reworked from its original album version and that final product was released as the eighth and final single from the album on October 26, 1996. It didn't receive a warm reception at radio, missing the Top 40 entirely. This marked the second consecutive single from this album to miss the Top 20 and the first single of this album to miss the Top 40 altogether. Its radio peak of #48 came in January 1997, after just 9 weeks on the charts. I have always loved this revamped version of the song for its hopefulness and Shania's vocal delivery. I wasn't too surprised to see it start out as a last place contender and I frankly was expecting it to be that way. I was shocked to see this song even hit the Top 10 on the trajectory, and am quite proud of the accomplishment! (Of course, it came back thanks to the last list ) Positive Tension loses their #3 here; sorry to you!

I like the whole album, so even my bottom ranks don't mean that I dislike a song. "God Bless The Child" is good, but imo her weakest single from the album by a lot. I think some stations considered it a "holiday" single, which is why it dropped off sharply in early January. It still wouldn't have gone much higher anyway, but I think that's why it peaked below the top 40.

"Life After Love" was definitely a grower. The verses are fine but the chorus and bridge are the highlights- the song just gets better as it goes along. Had I given myself more time to become familiar with it, it could've snuck in my top 6.

Up next at #9 is "Is There Life After Love?" This song happened to start quite strong, becoming a contender for the Top 5...and the runner-up position before quickly being shown what for by the rest of the competition. As more lists continued to trickle in, the song continued to fall, eventually stopping at #9. tim sadly loses his #2 here, and a couple others lose Top 5 placements as well. I've always found this song to be quite lovely; it's not as great as the rest of the songs I'd placed above it, but it certainly isn't anything to overlook considering the strength of this album!

Of course two of the most traditional country songs would be the first ones out! I was actually going to guess that “Raining On Our Love” might be the first song out just based on the fact that it seems to get overshadowed by the rest of the album. And I suppose the same thing can be said for “Leaving Is the Only Way Out” as again the overall strength of the record probably pushes this one further back amongst those songs that most people seek out from the record. I assumed that “God Bless the Child” would be out somewhere in the bottom three and speaking for myself I much prefer the a cappella version personally. I agree with someguy that at the time a lot of country radio stations treated this as a holiday single and therefore I don’t think there was an actual major push for it either. I’m happy to see “Is There Life After Love” escape the bottom three as I thought it might land there if only because it would be more on the polarizing side. This has always been not just one of my favorite songs from the album but one of my all-time favorite album tracks from her. I’m not sure how this would’ve fared at country radio but I agree with Kanenrá:ke that I too wish it had been a single.

Leaving first tonight is "If It Don't Take Two" at #8. This one's a fun little jam...but this album has quite a few fun little jams, and this fun little jam isn't quite the jammiest of them. I do find it to be a bit repetitive towards the end...and some of the lyrics are head-scratchers! Like...who is Noah?! This song did start out very strongly, and was even the FIRST song in the submission process to be a #1 contender, spending time there for one list before the myriad of lower ranks quickly brought it to its knees. codyj100 , whose list sent this to that brief #1 position, loses his runner-up here. Sorry to you! Meanwhile Ginger Spice says good riddance to a last-place ranking.

We built a love so strong it couldn't break There was not a road we were afraid to take And we'd kiss all the way from Arkansas to Rome 'Cause in each other's arms we were home sweet home
But he don't feel the same Since our lives became Years of bills, babies and chains
Home ain't where his heart is anymore He may hang his hat behind our bedroom door But he don't lay his head down to love me like before

The first of the remaining singles to leave us is "Home Ain't Where His Heart Is (Anymore)," which was the VERY first song to spend any amount of time at #1 in the submission process, as Kanenrá:ke kicked things off with his list. Sadly that ended just as quickly as it began, as he and .indulgecountry lose their #1 song, a song about a woman lamenting the fact that her man just doesn't love her like he used to. It was released to radio on July 24, 1996 as the album's seventh single, and became the first song of the album era to miss the Top 20. It spent 14 weeks on the chart, peaking at #28 on the chart dated October 5, 1996. This is such a strong album, but I feel I could've sneaked this into my Top 5 because y'all...this song is beautiful. And it's heartbreaking. Imagine spending so much of your life loving one person with all your heart only for them to become burnt out on you. I particularly enjoy the line He may hang his hat behind our bedroom door/But he don't lay his head down to love me like before. WOW. Everyone did put this in their Top 10 tho...except for tim and his head-scratching #12 rank!

Which means, where is my #12??!!!?! Right here, all you had to do was ask! An odd song to put at #12 but ok
When the world wants too much And it feels cold and out of touch It's a beautiful place When you kiss my face
The woman in me Needs you to be The man in my arms To hold tenderly 'Cause I'm a woman in love And it's you I run to Yeah, the woman in me

The last song to miss the Top 5 is the namesake for this album, "The Woman in Me (Needs the Man in You)." This song is so beautifully sung and executed. It's simply immaculate. No words I put together can really do it justice tbh!! This was released as the album's third single on August 9, 1995 and spent 20 weeks on the charts, reaching a peak position of #14 on November 4, 1995 and becoming Shania's third Top 20 hit at country radio. codyj100 loses his #1 here (very sorry to you!) and some of us lost some Top 5s, while on the other end, bboat11 finally rids of his #12. The song was never really destined for Top 5 status. It tried a couple times, but wound up being pushed back against the bigger hits of the album.
